Were people more mature in the past?

When will we hear from the "men" who frequent this site who boast about never having had children (by choice) or never having married, or giving up on the idea after a divorce? How about the people here who crow about dropping a job at the first inconvenience and leaving without a moment's notice? Then there are those who feign righteousness when they "choose" to destroy a human life if it's inconvenient for them. All of which is to say nothing about the frightened children who are scared to tears of anyone who looks in any superficial way different from them. Are any of these kinds of losers "mature"?
No one mentioned anything about those issues.

Because a lot of what happens now may be due to the social media influence which of course did not exist back in the day the way that it does now, yes, there was more maturity back in the day.

God bless you always!!!

I hear this discussion quite a bit. For example, people on the plains 150 years ago married in their teens. They had lots of work well before age 18. They started families in their teens.

Fast forward 75 years later and people were still marrying early, working, and starting families in their teens. As kids, they dated in their teens.

And what about dating? At what age should a child begin to date? When should they go out on their own? At what age should a parent chaperone a date? What about group dates? What is the maturity level? Biology hasn’t changed all that much in the grand scheme of things, but how much have norms and culture changed?

Thoughts?

Were they more mature? Depends what you mean by "mature" I guess.

My mother in law is not mature at all. She grew up in poverty in a country that was very poor at the time, she had kids early maybe 20 years old for her first kid, she didn't go to college or anything like that.

She has brought up kids and grandkids, she doesn't have a sense of humor, she doesn't go around do stupid things, and yet she's not mature. She's not very responsible, struggles to go to places she doesn't know, doesn't have a proper job, doesn't really think about the future, is messing up her granddaugher's life (not my child) because she knows nothing about bringing up kids. She's a nice person, but not mature.

Back in the day there was the draft. And nothing will force maturity on a person quicker than a stint in the military.
In College, the Student Lives Like a Child. So He Graduates With the Mind of a Child.

The never-spoken converse of that is that nothing will force immaturity on a person quicker than going to college, as long as students aren't paid for their grades and have to live deprived and childishly on part-time jobs. As long as this medieval "education" is forced on us by those who give their brats an adult allowance to live on, college for the Unfortunate Sons is for teenagers who are afraid to grow up.

Typically, a friend of mine in high school was, at 16, as mature as a 25-year-old. But after 7 years of college and law school, he wound up as immature as a 16-year-old.

But parents and society today seem bound and determined to raise cowardly, weak and dumb young people anymore.

When kids grow up tougher it makes them more mature and responsible adults. Kids should be absolutely kids, but the sooner you start making them mature the better off they are when they graduate school.

Kids are pussified now. Most people between the ages of 16 and 30 today make me sick.
Emasculation Is by Design of the Heiristocracy

All these generation-bashers are blaming the victims. The overwhelming behavior-control and thought-control of the self-appointed ruling class should be held responsible. Only depriving the Leftist and Rightist lords and ladies of all their unearned privileges will save America's future.

We live in a matriarchal society today where kids are coddled and protected from anything deemed 'bad' by women's standards. The pro women's organizations and movements have gutted our patriarchal society completely. They are myopic androphobes with too much power.

Biological maturity is about the same. Social maturity is not. Looking at those 17 to 21, most do not have the social skills to handle work and living on their own. Almost universally, employers want employees who have the the social skills to communicate effectively with customers, management, and other employees. Years on social media, being schooled on a computer, and communicating with mostly fictional and anonymous characters, they simply don't know how to handle real life situations and problems. Rather than going out into the real world, to live their life they bury themselves into social media attempting to isolate themselves.

1/3 of all adults at age 30 dependent on their parents for full or partial financial support.
