We Could Have Been Compassionate

I'm still seeing comments that blame all of the problems of the predominantly black inner cities on the people who live there. I want to share some things from "The New Jim Crow" by Michelle Alexander that speak clearly to this issue:

We faced a fork in the road one decade after Martin Luther King Jr. and Malcolm X were laid to rest. During the last 1970s, jobs had suddenly disappeared from urban areas across America, and unemployment rates had skyrocketed. In 1954, black and white youth unemployment rates in America were equal, with blacks actually having a slightly high rate of employment in the 16-19 age group. By 1984, however, the black unemployment rate had nearly quadrupled, while the white rate had increased only marginally. This was NOT due to a major change in black values, behavior or culture; this dramatic shift was the result of deindustrialization, globalization and technological advancement. Urban factories shut down and the nation transitioned to a service economy. Suddenly African Americans were trapped in jobless ghettos, desperate for work.

The economic collapse of inner-city black communities COULD have inspired a national outpouring of compassion and support. A new War of Poverty COULD have been launched. Economic stimulus packages COULD have sailed through Congress to bail out those trapped in jobless ghettos through no fault of their own. Education, job training, public transportation, and relocation assistance COULD have been provided, so that youth of color would have been able to survive the rough transition to a new global economy and secure jobs in distant suburbs. Constructive interventions would have been good not only for African Americans trapped in ghettos, but also for blue-collar workers of all colors, many of whom were suffering too, if less severely. A wave of compassion and concern COULD have flooded poor and working-class communities. All of this could have happened, but it didn’t. Instead, we declared a War on Drugs.

The collapse of the inner-city economies coincided with the conservative backlash against the Civil Rights Movement, resulting in the perfect storm. Almost overnight, black men found themselves unnecessary to the American economy and demonized by mainstream society. They were vilified in the media and condemned for their condition as part of well-orchestrated political campaign.

Hey black people, time to lose the victim mentality and get that chip off your shoulder.

And stop begging white people to fix your problems, and give you free stuff.

Sure your great, great, grand mammy and pappy were slaves.

But it's 2017,.... we have had a black president,.... you can be anything you want.

Time to get with the program, and quit whining like a bitch. .....

Whoa there hunny, no one wants to invest in a zone that is destroyed by its own inhabitants...

Blacks became little more than obsolete farm equipment once the white man thought up new technology. This is well-known. So it looks like you're partly correct. No, blacks didn't become dumber. They were always stupid, but at least they could get by doing manual labor. Now that's all in the past. Machines do that kind of work and mostly what's left for men is thinking, which blacks obviously can't do too well. This is what explains the failure of black-run nations (can't blame whitey when there's no whitey in the country to blame!): blacks can't do thinking too well.

And of course there's also this:
Whoa there hunny, no one wants to invest in a zone that is destroyed by its own inhabitants...
Is it really the white man's fault for moving out of the ghetto because they don't want to get murdered by a negro? Who wants to shop in a negrohood?

Don't worry. Jews still run pawnshops and jewish payday moneylenders to get rich off of negro crime and the money the government funnels into negrohoods via welfare.

What a ridiculous troll thread

She's not a troll, she's an 'intellectual' trying to make a name for herself, to sell her book. She's probably taking notes for her next one about combating internet racism or some shit...

And there are things that you can't see that can kill you, does that mean you are a weakling since you can't defend yourself?

If folks were so interested in invigorating US industries, they'd be much more supportive of President Trump's MAGA ideas. But, blacks and other people of "color", and their misguided "white" supporters are hell bent on destroying anything President Trump proposes, absolutely ignoring his message. Too bad. As long as BLM, ANTIFA, and other misguided, terrorist organizations "lead the way", there will be nothing to fill the gap and provide economic succor for inner city, under-employed persons, or every color. Government is NOT the solution, people. Government is your biggest problem. Throw off the yokes of your government masters and start thinking, and working, for yourselves.
Alas...I despair...

Yes, there are things I can't see that can kill me, and those "things" still aren't very smart. Does it make me a weakling? Compared to what? Someone that can't be killed that doesn't exist? Your post makes no sense in this context. If I called blacks stupid, it was obviously in comparison to whites.

Could you explain how this plays into your argument that blacks are not as stupid as I say they are (however stupid that is, you brought it up) since they exist?

In fact, I am not an intellectual, scholarly type although many of the books I read are written by such. I mentioned my book only once on the board in response to a particular question, and with permission from the staff. Others may have referred to it after that. Guess I should thank them, and you for the idea for another one!

There is an old saying...

Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day
Teach a man to fish and he will eat for a lifetime

But what happens when the pond no longer has any fish in it?

That is what happened in our inner cities. People may know how to fish.....but there are no fish to be caught

There are stupid blacks just as there are stupid whites...Yet the football team is comprised of both black and whites that work together, just like the military...

Good solution

We hear a nearby town has a pond that still has fish in it. So we all move and begin fishing in their pond. But the people of that town get angry and tell us there are only enough fish in their pond to feed their people
