Hidden from them? The FBI was looking through those boxes in the storage room for about two hours prior to the search warrant being sought! Why wasn't the question asked at that point?

This is not true. The FBI was forbidden by Trump's lawyers from looking through the boxes in the storage room before the search warrant was sought.

If they had been allowed to look in the boxes, they would have found documents with classified markings on them and then it would have been immediately apparent that Trump had been obstructing justice by hiding documents he was legally required to turn over. And that is exactly why the FBI was forbidden from looking through the boxes before the search warrant.

As far as anyone knows, the documents were never declassified, therefore he is going to be prosecuted for illegally retaining classified documents.

The president can declassify documents. That's what he said he did.
