Pelosi carried in a poster with clip art of the American flag that was captioned “to the republic, for which it stands.” The speaker has argued that Trump threatened the republic with his actions in his July 25 call to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
She has referenced Benjamin Franklin’s quote, “A republic, if you can keep it,” throughout the impeachment process. Pelosi told the House that she sees Trump’s impeachment as a “national civics lessons” for the American people.
