Wages at Golden Corral $2.13 an hour

Your tips are NOT someone's hourly wage. The wage he gets from his employer is his hourly wage. A tip is simply extra. A customer is not paying your wages, nor should they be expected to. The employer needs to ensure he is paying a decent wage to his/her employees, instead of expecting them to grovel to customers. If you want to grovel, go out on the street, stick a sign around your neck, and let people throw you a few coins.

Good thing you're cute, sweetie. Because you're dumb as rocks on this issue.
Your misplaced pride in being a minimum wage earner as a goal shows a complete lack of self worth.

You're young, there's hope for you still.

There is pride, just no need for tips.

In other words, the IRS treats them exactly the same way they treat your hourly wage.

I do remember a time, long, long ago when 10% of the total tab was reported to the IRS as income on a W2 by the employer on the assumption the server was tipped 10%.

They still do.

Tax Topics - Topic 761 Tips ? Withholding and Reporting

Understood.

Let's say a wait person writes up $200 worth of tickets during their shift. Five shifts a week net $1k in sales. The employer assumes, per the IRS, the wait staff was tipped $100 for the week. The employer must report the assumed $100 as income.

In reality the wait staff was tipped $50 that week.
Their weekly pay check reflects (and is taxed on) the $2.12 per hour and the assumed $100 in tips.

Imagine the surprise of wait staff when they received their weekly pay check and the net was $53.24

This happened before the Feds (taxpayers) passed laws regarding min wage 'credits'. If I recall correctly, min wage @ that time was around $5 an hour.

The state was Taxachusettes and I was the wait staff, briefly, for about six weeks one summer.

Cheapskate.

That's considerably less than 20% of your frugal dinner bill.

And who tips based on wage....you just can't dig yourself outta this hole. Give up already

You take food from children, deny grandma her meds, and say I should just give up. Sad that you have to look up to a snail.

No con has proved me a liar at all, and you know it. You're just trying to evade the truth, that cons can't defend their efforts to deny a living wage to workers. Can't defend their efforts to deny healthcare to workers. Can't defend their efforts to deny meds to the elderly. Can't defend their efforts to deny food to poor children. Can't defend their efforts to destroy Social Security to the elderly.

You know that your post is as lame as the other cons playground name calling, but that's all you got. Morons just don't get that, "you reap what you sow." I'm so glad I don't have your karma.

The "bussboy" doesn't exist. They call them servers. They serve the tables of so-called guests. Wages are kept low to encourage high enough quality service to the guests so as to merit tips. The wife and I eat there often and we always tip, as do most guests that we observe, and guests are seated and gone in about 20 minutes to 30 minutes. In a section of about 40 tables there are usually two servers and another person who floats between sections.

If 40 tables change every half hour and half the tables tip $2.00 and tips are shared then $80/hour in tips is being generated to be shared per section, probably shared by two and a half servers, then that's $16/hour per server if the traffic is half full capacity and a low of $8.00 if at one quarter capacity. That estimated minimum plus the $2.13 comes to $10.13 per hour.

I notice the same core group working as servers for many years now with some changing often. It appears there's enough incentive to stay. For some there's insufficient incentive which is as it should be. If our server doesn't pay enough attention to water and coffee or have the tables cleaned up and available for us to quickly get seated at a clean table, then their tips suffer; we cut it in half.

Trust me.....it doesn't bother me at all kiddo.

I just think that the loser in political debate always get's mad and uses insults. The winner generally brings facts and information.

Understand? I would say "or should I type slower" but I'm not sure that would help.

The problem is that the OP offered no factual debate. He posted a meme from one of the hate sites and insulted the intelligence of everyone here by portraying it as fact.

SEIU has mobilized the drones in an effort to take over the food service industry. Fake strikes and walkouts have been staged for the cameras, but were laughed at by the public, so now you try this idiotic meme about how abused servers and busboys are.

Tell me, why SHOULDN'T you be mocked? Give me one good reason?

I haven't seen a busboy in a long time.....I don't think busboys clear the tables anymore..The waitress/waiter IS the busboy today.

Try something other than McDonalds or Taco Bell...

More importantly you are missing the entire point. America isn't tipping much if at all because the middle class is broke. Watch some documentaries. The richest people in the world don't tip the people that work for them. Park Avenue style..

You are so full of shit.

Get out of moms basement and talk to someone with a serving job sometime.

Dumb fuck, idiot. That's how an intellectual con thinks he wins an argument. Your mommy is calling you.

You think that winning an argument includes posting memes feed to you by your union? You think no one sees through the idiotic bullshit you post?

You're a proven liar - you failed to grasp that other drones were programmed to post the same story in other forums. You have no standing to speak about anything intellectual.

You are a fraud, a mindless drone programmed to spew SEIU bullshit.

Well, apparently the minimum wage in Arkansas is 6.25 an hour. Looks like Hangover is lying through his progressive tee.

Arkansas has a tip credit that allows them to pay as little as $2.13 an hour, provided that tips make up the difference with the minimum wage.

This tip credit is something Gov. Bill Clinton signed into law.

Work in a restaurant here and you are likely to be paid more than the average minimum.

Again, no tips required. Must suck to have to grovel for money, eh?

I guarantee the average server here makes 3 to 5 times what they do in your little socialist paradise.

Tips are a good thing for a server.

Tips are a good thing for consumers too.

She has confused pride with obedience. Her nanny state tells her what she's worth. Here servers worth is rewarded with good tips. She's been told several times how much more some make so she convinces herself they are of less worth because they rely on tips. Completely back asswards

At this point, you need to change your avie to reflect your sorry assed, denial and deflection posting. You're welcome.

The basic concept of a "living wage" amuses me. Who defines what that will be? The SEIU? The sad fact is that most unions could care less about the "workers" they represent. What they do care about are the union dues that workers would contribute.

So we pass a $15 an hour minimum wage! Workers rejoice!!! Then the reality of how this really works begins to set in as employers cut back on workers and hours and the price of everything goes up to offset the new labor costs imposed by the Federal Government. And if that wasn't bad enough? Anyone stupid enough to think the SEIU is really looking out for them, who joined the union? They will also be shelling out for union dues...which means any increase (if they haven't been laid off or had their hours cut) will be decreased accordingly. It's a win for the unions. It's NOT for the workers!

Cashier/Server (Current Employee)
Baltimore, MD
I have been working at Golden Corral full-time for more than a year

Pros – As a server you made $100 or more a night usually.

Cons – Hard to become a Server unless your favored. No benefits, holiday pay, or time off. Open all holidays except Christmas. Worked hard as a line attendant for little money. Took employees to part time so they wouldn't have to provide health insurance

Advice to Senior Management – Stop all the favoritism and pay attention to who is really doing work.

$16 an hour is still less than my wage here, without tips.

You guys just don't have a clue, do you?

The wife and I went to the New Golden Corral Buffet last night, and I asked the bus boy how much they started him out at. He said $2.13 an hour! I asked what the cooks were paid. He said he wasn't positive, thought it was $8.00 an hour. Anyone think they get medical benefits?
At $2.13 an hour, that guy can't even buy a cup of coffee and a breakfast sandwich at Burger King.($3.99) Is it really possible to live on $80.00 a week?
Looks like the cons have succeeded in making the U.S. a banana republic.
Our dinner was $26.00

I went all the way back to the beginning because I wanted to chime in on this.
The Golden Corral is a good place to go if you have several people (kids included) and none of them agree on what or where they want to eat. The food is good (not great, mind you, but good) as are the prices when compared to the menu order (non-buffet) style restaurants.
I've been to Golden Corral when it's busy. I mean really busy, such as on a late-evening during the first weekend of the month. It's a madhouse in there, and the wait&bus staff members are working their rear ends off. They're cleaning plates from and bringing fresh beverages to the tables. I think they deserve to make a decent wage, which is why I make a point of not just leaving a tip on the table, but handing it to the person who takes care of my table.
Now to my point. The wait&bus staff isn't supposed to live on $80 a week. They're the ones who get the tips from folks like me. The cooks rarely get tips. That is, unless the wait&bus staff have to share their tips with the cooks. I don't know the facts surrounding that.

I worked Saturday night from 430-930 and made $240 in tips. I tipped out my bartender and busboy and still walked out with making around $40/hour. Not bad for 5 hours of work. I do that two nights a week. Its my "fun" money. My career (M-F), pays my bills.
