US to Return to Moon

I really support space exploration but no, we don't need to use our money there.

Let's fix earth first.

Here's a whacky idea. Let's do what we want. Each of us invest our money in fixing earth, and/or exploring space as we see fit.

We should have had a base on the moon the past 40 years. It is a sick joke that humanity hasn't done shit since.

Where did our sprit to explore and find new resources? America isn't acting like a healthy first world nation.

Our 'spirit' has been consumed in the ever growing cancer of corporate cronyism and political patronage networks that run BOTH parties.

There are simply less and less funds available.

What part of 17 to 18 trillion in debt don't you get? THAT is what's sick.

If there was a economically sound reason to set up a very expensive operation on the moon, I'd be for it. Let private companies fund it if there is and let's quit hemorraging other people's money to make a select few happy.

When one engages in exploration, it is what you never imagined, and did not expect, that usually has the biggest payoff. Often the reason you went in the first place is not what creates the value of the exploration. The Corp of Discovery never achieved the primary goal of it's explorations, and, in fact, proved that goal impossible. It ran over budget by a factor of 10. And came in so late that the people in it were given up for dead. But it lead to the US becoming a continental nation.

Retard,

We've been spending the same amount for the past 40 years on science, tech and infrastructure. What part of that don't idiots like you don't understand? This isn't the cause of our debt. This is what makes us stand out as a power on this planet.

Money for exploration and R and D is almost a litmus test for fringies on the right and the left. The left says spend it here on earth, as if we were shipping loads of money out there. The right decries the debt, says we cannot afford it. Just as we cannot afford to upgrade our infrastructure. Neither seems to understand that exploration and R and D are investments that have paid off orders of magnitudes in returns on investment in our past.

We're spending at the lowest level in decades on science, infrastructure and r@D.

want to know where the debt came from?
-Welfare like foodstamps, ssd.
-Health care cost
-Your wars

How about focusing on the problem?

Properly spent, health care costs are an investment, particularly preventive health care. Welfare and food stamps in an economy that was investing and using R and D would be far lower because there would be far more people working.

Wars? Well, the Cost of the New American Century is still with us, in terms of treasure and human lives.

The greatest times in history is when great nations explored and promoted infrastructure, science and tech.

They increased their economy
They advanced idea's
and life was better for all.

One of the weaknesses is war. normally killing and destroying the nations ability to do the above.

Guess what party wants that? The republicans. Exploring space means resources that are infite and the kind of growth we need to help everyone on earth.

Fiscal conservatives should always decry expenditures and what we can gain from them. Those embedded in funding decry calls to fiscal responsibility. The money comes from the taxpayers and there should be an obligation to spend their money wisely. Just because some things proved beneficial does not mean that anything should be funded without question.

The cost of the NASA program and a parallel ocean exploration/colonization program would be trivial compared tot he pork and entitlement spending.

While the return on spin off technology would grow our economy and technological capabilities exponentially.

Penny short, dollar foolish.

While I agree with the sentiment, in our current economy with our current budget (note my sig), I don't think the romantic appeal a prudent motivator.

The pay offs are substantial though and well worth the investment and quite visible.

Honestly, Tell me how something that has either decreased or remained stable since the 80's is to blame for our debt????

It is like a fly trying to take down a airplane.
An airplane. And the analogy makes no sense anyway. Continuing to fund something just keep up with historic levels makes little sense when national debt is piling up to the moon.

The greatest nations like Roman empire, Briton, japan, Greece and of course today America all explored, built infrastructure and invested.

Your party seems to be hell bent on killing America.

Attribution would really be helpful here, ya know?

The GOP is not trying to kill America, nor the Democrats.

They both just think they can get more golden eggs from the goose by force feeding it laxatives while working the back end with a plunger.

But the spin-off tech is well worth the investment, no matter what the gain in real estate and resources are.
