If Trump loses, he and his cult will say it was rigged, and we'll first have to survive (literally) whatever violence and institutional damage ensues. That would not be a small feat, and it won't happen overnight.

Assuming we do, it may be enough impetus for enough party members to suddenly find their balls and try to pull the party back to sanity. The question will be whether the rank and file rubes are willing to show up at the polls for whatever that looks like.

There are two things we need to remember about cults: There is no real replacing the leader, and it's not pretty when they end.

The rank and file may finally be forced to deal with the unpopularity, and lack of factual backing, for most of the positions they hold. It will be disorienting and challenging for them. But it's going to be a necessary stage for them to go through if we are ever to once again put together this fractured nation.

For conservatives, Republicans, and others on the right it’s about revolution, not restoration.
