U.S. Economy Lost 54,000 Jobs in August; Unemployment Rate Rises to 9.6%

Bush's tax cuts are obviously still working as designed.

No, they are not.

The fact that Obama, Pelosi, and Reid have declared they won't be extended is distorting the economy. Those of us who can, have moved income into this year in order to avoid the tax hikes; and businesses (especially small ones) are holding off investment and expansion due to the uncertainty of how badly they will be affected by the increases.

Man, how is that "summer of recovery" going for you.

Liberals keep telling us about "jobs added" but what kind of jobs if the unemployment rate goes up again?

Are these census workers? Temporary jobs? Part time jobs? Are the jobs being lost the more permanent work job seekers need?

Liberals are going to find it hard to hide behind "stats" when the obvious is a lot of people are out of work!

Those people are going to vote come November.l

It's about the jobs liberals, and Obama and the Democrats are the ones that need to be put of work, to make that part of our economy better. ;)

Only really, really, really stupid people think a political party can create jobs... unless they are federal employees.... and more fucking federal employees we do not need. A growing public sector and a declining private sector is a very, very bad thing.

This is what we get when an Administration and Congress increase the size of government as a ratio of GDP by 25% in 18 months - and when a Congress does it in Real Dollar terms by 25% in 3 years. These rates of growth are not justified by inflation and population changes - they are just representative of the gross expansion of government into our private lives.

From all the uproar from the right about the upcoming expiration of the tax cuts you are obviously very wrong.

This year, the average number of jobs created each month has been 111k. The average number of jobs created in the private sector has been 99k.

The economy has to create ~100k jobs each month to keep the rate of unemployment from rising.

Well at least the right is looking out for the lowest income brackets in america then. Letting the cuts expire is going to raise everyone's taxes but as a percentage the poor will be hit the hardest with a 5% increase in their tax burden

Then WHY did UNEMPLOYMENT RISE?

Hellooooooooooooooooooooo!
Census jobs were taken out. But the private sector added 67,000 jobs. Add the numbers and you get over 120,000 census jobs.

Jobs have been added to private sector every month for the last eight.

This was on the news. Stop watching Fox.

What "News?"

The one for which you couldn't find a link?

What the fuck is wrong with you pissheads. You sit in front of the damn Internet. All you have to do is go look it up. If you fuckers and had shame you would apologize. Don't worry. No one is holding right wingers to any meaningful standard. And you Samson, you are a disgrace. I lower my opinion.

Private employers add 67,000 jobs, but unemployment rate rises

Employers hire more workers than expected - Business - Eye on the Economy - msnbc.com

Private employers added a total of 67,000 jobs last month, according to the Labor Department’s August jobs report released Friday. That number was below the amount of jobs needed to keep up with population growth, but was better than expected. Both July and June’s private-sector job figures were upwardly revised.

August Jobs Report: Private Sector Added 67,000 Jobs - DailyFinance

Americans received some rare good news about the U.S. economy Friday, with a report from the Labor Department that the private sector added 67,000 jobs in August, more than the 40,000 gain economists had forecast. But that unexpected increase was more than offset by the well-anticipated drop in government payrolls: The number of temporary U.S. Census workers fell by 114,000, accounting for the bulk of a 121,000 decline in government jobs. In total, the U.S. lost 54,000 jobs in August.

For you, mon cher:

Here is total Federal Government Spending as a % of GDP over the years. Notice the spike up to 25% in 2010:

And to understand the more fulsome impact of total government expansion, here's the same chart for total Federal, State, and Local government as a % of GDP:

Government Spending Chart in United States 1903-2010 - Federal State Local

This is the real problem in our country today - the massive cumulative increase of government at all levels which is closing in on sucking up 50% of our economic activity.

Happy now?

Do you have a bucket of fish heads?

Methinks Mr. Clean has an out of date understanding of China. Industrialization has raised living standards and pulled many Chinese out of crushing, near starvation poverty - to the extent that they now have the mega traffic jam.

Oh that's much prettier....I like that Democrat "Electric Blue" color .......

:eusa_angel:

I must not the two spikes during WWI, WWII........I wonder, could the graphs be depicting a "Cold War," a "War On Drugs," and a "War on Poverty?"

Is it possible that out government cannot exist unless it consumes a % GDP that approaches WWII?

And what will the Republicans do to create jobs, if they win in November?

Specifically.

Only really, really, really stupid people think a political party can create jobs... unless they are federal employees.... and more fucking federal employees we do not need. A growing public sector and a declining private sector is a very, very bad thing.

Then I guess only stupid people blame the Democrats for not improving the jobs situation.

And I guess only stupid Republicans run on promises to improve the jobs situation.

And I guess only stupid people claim that tax policy, for example, can affect the jobs situation.

I'll stop at 3 so you don't get mental indigestion trying to come up with an intelligent, relevant, substantive response.
