U.S., China ratify Paris climate agreement
"With the two biggest emitters ready to lead, the transition to a low-emissions, climate-resilient global economy is now irreversible."

The United States has joined China to formally ratify the Paris agreement to curb climate-warming emissions, the world's two biggest economies said on Saturday, which could help put the pact into force before the end of the year.
U.S. President Barack Obama and Chinese President Xi Jinping submitted their plan to join the agreement to U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, who is in China to witness the announcement.
Senior Obama adviser Brian Deese said the joint declaration should push other countries to formally join the agreement.
"The signal of the two large emitters taking this step together and taking it early, far earlier than people had anticipated a year ago, should give confidence to the global communities and to other countries that are working on their climate change plans, that they too can move quickly and will be part of a global effort," Deese told reporters on Friday.
India is also poised to join the agreement this year, Deese said, adding that Obama was expected to meet Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the sidelines of a Group of 20 nations meeting in Hangzhou, China, this weekend.
Obama and Xi committed to cooperate on two other global environmental agreements this year - an amendment to the Montreal Protocol to phase down air-conditioning refrigerants and on a market-based measure to reduce carbon emissions from aviation.
"Today's announcement is the strongest signal yet that what we agreed in Paris will soon be the law of the land," said Mattlan Zackhras, minister-in-assistance to the president of the Marshall Islands.
"With the two biggest emitters ready to lead, the transition to a low-emissions, climate-resilient global economy is now irreversible."

Lets get our nuclear up to 40% of our grid, double wind and solar. That would be a good plan to make this a reality.

Alas, if only solar and wind power generation actually produced enough electricity to even pay for itself. By all means, shut down the coal and natural gas industry before you ever even get one wind or solar plant that will actually produce a quantity of electricity that can light up one small town or power Air Force One.

Mankind is a small puny little creature. Nothing he does will stop the inevitable march of the changing tides of nature.

This is all a scam to give power and money to the elites.

What a lying silly ass you are.

American wind power reaches major power generation milestones in 2013

March 5, 2014

Washington, D.C.- American wind power topped 4 percent of the U.S. power grid for the first time last year and has delivered 30 percent of all new generating capacity for the last five years. In Iowa and South Dakota, wind power now exceeds 25 percent of total electricity production. In nine states it provided more than 12 percent and in 17 states, more than five percent.

Wind power generated 4.13 percent of all the electricity in America in 2013 as the fifth largest electricity source in the U.S., according to the latest data from the Department of Energy’s Energy Information Administration (EIA). That is enough to power the equivalent of 15.5 million American homes, which is equivalent of all the residential households in Arkansas, Colorado, Georgia, Kansas, Nebraska, Nevada, and Ohio combined.

“Wind energy continues to make inroads as a major contributor to the U.S. power mix,” said Elizabeth Salerno, Vice President of Industry Data and Analysis for the American Wind Energy Association. “The electricity generated by American wind power has more than tripled since 2008 not only due to significant growth in new wind projects but also technology innovation leading to more productive wind turbines.” All renewable energy sources now deliver nearly 13% of the nation’s electricity.

Solar and wind continue to come down in price, even as coal is becoming more expensive. And solar and wind do not have externalities that the taxpayers get to pay for, as does coal.

U.S. number one in the world in wind energy production

Wind supplied Iowa with over 31 percent of its electricity last year

February 29, 2016

Washington, D.C. — The United States continues to lead the world in wind energy production according to recently released data by the Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC) and by theU.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA).

Over 31 percent of Iowa’s in-state electricity generation came from wind last year – marking another major milestone. This is the first time wind has supplied a state with more than 30 percent of its annual electricity. Iowa, Kansas and South Dakota all generated more than 20 percent of their electricity from wind in 2015.

“The U.S. is blessed with world-class wind resources,” said Tom Kiernan, CEO of the American Wind Energy Association. “We’re tapping into this homegrown resource more than ever thanks to American innovation and U.S. workers building some of the most productive wind turbines in the world. Now more than ever, low-cost, stably-priced, zero-emission wind energy is keeping our air clean and cutting costs for consumers. American wind power is well on its way to supplying 20 percent of U.S. electricity by 2030.”

“We are proud of Iowa’s leadership in wind energy," said Iowa Governor Terry Branstad, who also serves as Chairman of the Governor’s Wind and Solar Energy Coalition. “We’ve seen exponential growth in wind energy and the data released today reinforces what we’ve been seeing in every corner of our state. With potential to jump above 40 percent in the next five years, we are committed to building an even greener Iowa future that will provide our Iowa families with cleaner, renewable energy and job opportunities.”

Power and jobs. Income for the farmers on whose land many of mills are located. Win-win for all.

Well, the one I read disputed those facts of yours. The one I read said the maintenance on the wind turbines cost more than the benefits of the electricity they produced. Maintenance is a huge factor since the big turbine blades spin on bearings and are prone to being hit by birds and other objects as well as weather exposure, ice etc. Where's your electric powered Air Force One? Why isn't Obama flying to his climate change meetings in an electric powered jet?

The turbines in a fossil fuel-powered plant also spin on bearings and a great deal faster and at far more elevated temperatures than do the bearings in a wind turbine.

Obama is not flying to his meetings in an electric powered jet because of battery technology. Check with your local model airplane organizations. Almost all model airplanes these days use electric motors run on batteries but the larger the plane, the more likely it is that it will run on fuel.

Recently, a fully electric plane circled the globe on solar power, but as you'll know if you watch the news, it was very large, carried a crew of one and traveled quite slowly.

None of these technological limitations, however, address your contention: The idea that the maintenance on wind turbines is greater than the maintenance on a gas, oil or coal fired power plant of the same capacity. Given the differences I mentioned above, I find your claim very hard to accept. It would be helpful if you could find a link to such information and allow us to have a look at it. Till then, I'm afraid yours is an unsubstantiated assertion.
