There's only one word I can think of for this whole situation.

Sad. :(

The Transportation Security Administration has denied that its agents required a 95-year-old woman to remove her adult diaper last week prior to allowing her to pass a screening checkpoint at Northwest Florida Regional Airport.
...
At a security checkpoint, a TSA officer ushered the wheelchair-bound woman into a glassed-in area where a pat-down was performed, Weber said. Weber said an agent told her "they felt something suspicious on (her mother's) leg and they couldn't determine what it was" -- leading them to take her into a private, closed room.

Soon after, Weber said, a TSA agent told her that her mother's Depend undergarment was "wet and it was firm, and they couldn't check it thoroughly." But her mother had no clean diapers in her carry-on luggage and the departure time for the plane was approaching, Weber said.

"They said, 'You can get her luggage back to get more out of her luggage,' but the luggage was checked and I didn't know how long it would take to get her luggage," Weber said. "I asked if I could take the wet Depends off and they said yes but said but I had to take her back to the lobby of the airport -- to the restroom out of the screening area."

You voted for him (Obama). And you bitch about his efficient agency?

Call 9-1-1 and ask to speak to the President directly. I am sure your complaint will be handled in a polite and timely manner.

Idiot.

my point was that if security is what we want, we should abide by the necessary expectations... for it to be a complaint when she had assistance seems a bit ridiculous. i don't envy the tsa, for sure.

so when someone sticks a bomb in granny's diaper and blows up a plane?

how 'bout THIS story today?
Taliban insurgents used an eight-year-old girl carrying a bag of explosives to attack a police checkpost in central Afghanistan, the Afghan government said on Sunday, making her one of the youngest child bombers of the decade-old conflict.

The incident took place in Char Chino district of central Uruzgan province, the interior ministry said. "The insurgents handed over a bag with a homemade bomb to an eight-year-old girl and asked her to take it to police forces," it added.

"As the girl was getting close to the police, it exploded and killed the girl."

It was the latest in a string of unusual attacks on both sides of the Pakistan-Afghanistan border.

you people lay in wait every time someone whines and start the ranting and raving. guess what? these aren't nice people. they will use a dog, a child, an old person, a diaper, underwear, shoes...

you think this is a freaking joke.

don't fly if you don't like it. or stay off of my flights.

Wow.

They used an 8 year old girl carrying a bag of explosives. Do you see anything about that implies explosives in a Depends? Are you aware that explosives powerful enough to take a plane out of the air take up a lot of room?

the chemicals in an adult diaper turn into a gel when the wearer urinates. it is impossible for tsa to tell the difference between that and C4.

it sucks, but we know that terrorists don't discriminate in who they use to blow up stuff.

The TSA must be full of complete idiots then. I can tell the difference between the chemicals in a Depends and C-4.

If given a choice, I would rather be confronted by a terrorists on a flight than have my government violate my constitutional rights in the name of protecting me.

You do not get a choice.

It sucks, but we can fire 2/3 of them and get dog handlers instead. TSA at airports was a bad idea.

you have no constitutional right to fly. you are also not protected from searches even if you did... you are only entitled to protection from UNREASONABLE searches.

feel free not to fly. i mean that with all sincerity. it's easy to be smug until you see your office hit by a plane.

actually, you're an idiot if you think you can.

good luck doing a chemical analysis while boarding 1,000 passengers.

ok. I agree, but who decides what's unreasonable.

If you use the "reasonable person" paradigm you may have trouble here.

Yep. We disagree on the 'UNREASONABLE' part. I fly commercial when I have to. Usually, I'll fly private.

I just personally would not fly if I did not want to go through whatever is deemed necessary by the authortative figures, period. It seriously seems that for people to go to the airport knowing the situation to be what it is and then have the audacity to complain via national media makes them appear more than ungrateful. Rant and rave about terrorists and then bitch about all the efforts that different levels of 'the systems' have put forth.... really.... kinda makes me wonder a bit if such people are not in cahoots with 'the terrorists'.

This is going a bit too damn far.
95 years old.....in a wheelchair....and she is wearing a Depends.
I'd really like to know what the security assholes really thought this poor old woman was hiding in her undergarments.
If they have a scanning machine to scan the body, why couldn't they just scan her Depends??
For Christ's sake, it's going to get to the point where a person is going to have to strip down naked, to satisfy this flippin airport security.
I will say this, if it had been my Mother they did this too, my ass would have been hauled off to jail, for I would have caused such a commotion, such a scene, they would most likely have gotten me for disturbing the peace or some shit.
I would have defended my Mother in any means possible, as I'm sure this lady's daughter did.
This story is sad and it makes me sick.

It makes me sick, too. Why didn't the daughter have fresh Depends in her purse? Why did she submit her mother to this indignity of going through security in a soiled diaper? Why didn't the daughter give her underpants to her mother when they finally got on the plane?

I would never in a million years treat my mother like that.

Have you seen the size of a Depends??
They do not fit into a lady's purse, unless you use a small luggage bag as a purse.

Maybe she wasn't aware her Mother's Depends was wet?? How often does one have to check those things?? Every 5 minutes?? Once every hour?? What?? WHAT??

Because the Depends was in her luggage which, the way I understood it, the luggage was stored with the plane and not overhead. Tho I may be wrong on this one. But nonetheless, the security should have made sure the elderly woman had a fresh Depends on when she boarded. They are costly, but not that costly. The fuckers could have, and probably do have, a supply of them somewhere in the airport.
