Trump - "The plan includes...."

Trump's definition of the Wall keeps changing.....

Yet the $5.7bil figure does not.

IF he meant what he 's said (which would be a first), he'd be happy to take a smaller amount of money as a down payment - enough to get the project started.

Once the project is partially built, Congress could review it and decide whether to continue funding.

It seems that Trump is being extremely dishonest about what his "Wall" would be - he's insisting on a payment in full, in advance because he knows that as soon as the project gets started - and Congress finds out what this "wall" is, they'll want it stopped.

Starting a huge construction project with an small down payment is typical in the construction industry - and Trump knows it.

Getting 100% up front is unheard of - only a con man would insist on a 100% payment up front!

Most of the improvements in the economy under Trump came in his first year office. Falling unemployment which began months before he took office continued through his first year and a tax cut sent the stock market through the roof. 2018 was a different story. The market lost 4.7%, the worst year since 2008 and unemployment saw little improvement.
republicans don't remember the 75 straight months of 6 digit job gains during obama's presidency

Democrats protested when Reagan gave amnesty, saying that it would encourage more to come and wait for the next amnesty. Reagan said NAFTA would keep the Mexicans in Mexico, and it's working. What he didn't say was that the Mexicans would be doing jobs at home that Canadian and Americans used to do.
Dems didn't oppose jack shit about Reagan's amnesty...I was aware and paying attention at the time...In fact they gave him the old bait-and-switch, which he should have known was coming.

And what he said about NAFTA is irrelevant, as it was but an idea at the time.

More kool-aid. Trump has never, ever, ever insisted that the barrier had to cover every mile of the southern border. Go back and read his campaign speeches. He specified that there were areas that did not need a barrier.

And Trump has now made it clear that the barrier does not have to be a wall but can be a fence.

Hope this actually gets the government open, & that both party's get enough of what they want to drown out the extreme demands from the extreme ends of both party's.

"the plan includes $5.7 billion for a strategic deployment of physical barriers, or a wall. This is not a 2,000 mile concrete structure from sea to sea. These are steel barriers in high priority locations."

In other words he wants border security.

He's been OFFERED money for that.

1.6 billion. He got 1.2 billion last year and only spent 10% of THAT.

What exactly does he want this blank check for?

How did he arrive at that figure?

It's a bullshit number he pulled out of his ass...and he shut down the government over it

DHS came up with that $5.7b number, they are the border experts and know what works and what's needed. Who do you call the dems' experts? No one? So take DHS' advise.
Nancy says she "rejects Kirsten's facts", but doesn't present any alternative "facts"; that would make her look really stupid. Maybe she'll get more TIA episodes and we can resolve the shutdown?
The art of the deal ?? wtf does he think he's kidding?/ Hooray for me Fk you is his compromise?

The dems keep saying "open the government then we'll negotiate". Trump is not stupid, that won't happen. If the dems really wanted to negotiate they would have been doing so during the past month. Since the dems are not serious, we'll keep playing keep away with the Budget and the Fed workers suffer. Heartless Nancy will have blood on her hands if any Fed worker diabetics die from lack of insulin, which is expensive.
What does Trump have to lose by accepting a deal to open the government by funding it for another two months? 800,000 people will be able to pay their mortgages, rent, and buy groceries. At worst, we might be looking at another shutdown in two months but at least these people will have a chance to get on their feet before they get another kick in gut.

That's not how the dems are presenting their deal. They say "open the government then we'll negotiate". Maybe there is a deal to be had if the dems want a 1-month CR, then if no deal the shutdown continues.

"We will build a great wall along our southern border and Mexico will pay for the wall"

I think most people believed the wall would cover the southern border. It's a pretty natural assumption. If I told you I was building a wall on the southern border of my property, I think you would assume that the wall would cover the southern border and not 10% of it.

And if I told you my neighbor is going to pay for the wall, I think you would assume that he is really going to pay for it with real money.

You know, Trump never planned to build any wall. He threw this into his speech because one of his staff mentioned how much his supporters wanted to stop these people from crossing the border. So he threw it into the speech in place of an attack on Obama and his supporters loved it. Thus we have the government shutdown and 800,000 government workers unable to get a paycheck. To bad, he didn't stick with an attack on Obama.

By law, you can't only open the government without funding it. This suggestion was made weeks ago before Pelosi. In fact, I think a reporter mentioned it in a question he asked Trump. Trump said something about not kicking the can down the road and no he wouldn't agree to this.

I think we should lock Trump and Pelosi in a room without food or a bed to sleep in, which is what some of our government workers are now facing. We would have an agreement in less than 24 hours.

You can tell by who (or better said ..."what") Trump brought with him to the White House

Omarosa?

Steve friggin Bannon?

Seb Gorka??

He never thought he'd win.

"Trump is shutting down the government not just for his absurd wall. When you don't pay 800,000 federal workers you are destroying the concept of government in a democratic society, and moving to more privatization and corporate control over our lives." - Crazy Bernie

That's true. Since he really didn't think he had any real chance of winning, he felt free to say whatever would get cheers from his supporters. He loved those cheers and those chants of Trump, Trump, Trump.

Thus here we are today with the government shutdown and 800,000 people not knowing when they will be able to pay their bills. And Trump having to delivery on a ridiculous promise to build a wall that will take years to complete to solve an emergency situation at the border that doesn't even exist. This would make a great movie. Of course people wouldn't believe it.

What about the people who have to pay for those 800 thousand government employees? A crumb here a crumb there and soon enough the crumbs add up for the peasant who pays tax after tax after tax to survive.

It costs between $12-20 Million more an HOUR to run gov't during shutdown - it's MORE expensive to run a closed government. I think we are up to about 12 billion now.

In todays address Trump said:

"the plan includes $5.7 billion for a strategic deployment of physical barriers, or a wall. This is not a 2,000 mile concrete structure from sea to sea. These are steel barriers in high priority locations."

So how about if the Dems agree to give around $800mil this year for "steel barriers in high priority locations."

That should be a good start. If they're placed at the highest priority locations, it should have a measureable effect on illegal immigration. If so, Congress can continue additional funding in subsequent years.

I believe that Trump would never agree to this. He wants his $5.7bil to build a 2000 miles monument to himself. He couldn't care less about illegal immigration.

Hadrian had his wall, now Trump wants one.

If he's genuine about stopping immigration. he'd accept $800mil to get "steel barriers in high priority locations" as a start.

There's a reason he insists on $5.7bil.
Fuck The Democrats. Can’t trust the lying assholes.

What about the Billions approved in 2006 or the Billions approved earlier this year.

Nazi Pelosi has blocked all of the appropriations.

Why?

Because she accepts millions from
Mexican Drug Cartel Shell Corporations.
