So how about if the Dems agree to give around $800mil this year for "steel barriers in high priority locations."

That should be a good start. If they're placed at the highest priority locations, it should have a measureable effect on illegal immigration. If so, Congress can continue additional funding in subsequent years.

I believe that Trump would never agree to this. He wants his $5.7bil to build a 2000 miles monument to himself. He couldn't care less about illegal immigration.

Yes, Trump would never agree to 800 million. He needs enough money to convince his supporters that he has fulfilled his campaign promise. After all this is what the shutdown is all about, Trump fulfilling the campaign promise he thinks he needs to get re-elected.

He has successfully convince his following that we are facing a grave emergency and that the only solution is to build a 1000 mile wall that will take about 10 years to complete. The 5.7 billion is just the first installment. His followers are willing to ignore the fact that illegal border crossings are at or near a 40 year low and undocumented immigrants in the US are at a 12 year low. That money is for about 350 miles of new walls........replacing old fencing.......gates........sensors..........towers...........etc..........Most of it in the Rio Grande area which is the biggest problem area they have now.............Another problem which they have started doing already is LEVEES.......with walls..........the 2016 floods in that area are a major issue as Nogales went under water in 2016.

Those levees are needed as much for PROTECTION from FLOODING as stopping illegals for coming over. Only difference is after the Levees are built a 30 Steel Barrier is placed on top of the levee.
