As I understand it, your doc may charge $50 for an EKG, but insurers will pay 80% of anywhere from $25 to $35 depending on the market you reside in. I guess if the insurer is private your doc can bill you the difference, but not so with Medicare. Medicare has contracts with all accepting docs that what they pay is IT. If you charge the patient or their COB more than 20% of the Medicare accepted rate, they can drop you like a hot rock. And if Medicare drops your doc, he/she loses a lot of business. That's what I heard anyway. So if insurance rates are set, what has that to do with uninsured non-paying patients?

Demanding "increased services as a base service" doesn't increase medical care provisioning SUPPLY, the federal government can mandate that insurers cover XYZ and ABC services in their policies but that doesn't magically translate into more doctors, nurses, clinics, operating rooms, etc..etc.., nor does it magically break the price relationship between supply and demand.

The more demand you stimulate (by whatever means) without a corresponding increase in supply the higher the price will be.

Back in the day, the Washington DC General hospital was the go to emergency care when people in southeast DC got shot, stabbed, OD'd or just plain got sick. Now many of those who were violently injured didnt have the proper healthcare insurance to cover costs, so those that did have the insurance had to pay for that overhead of FREE emergency care, because that was a Ted Kennedy bill, and soon, those that could pay, ended up going to Georgetown Medical, because it was a little farther away but not as busy or costly at the time. So DC General closed shop. Now those who are violently injured have to go to Prince Georges Trauma Center, because it is a little farther away, but will accept emergencies like DC General did. Problem now for PGTC is that a lot of illegals have used the FREE stuff in the emergency, thus robbing those US citizens that have been violently harmed in DC, so PGTC is starting to have money problems like DC General. Not free, but also not outrageously expensive.....Why do we have to allocate 54% to the millitary for example? Why some drugs that are made in the US cause 3 or even 10 times overseas than they do here? Why Some health professionals make millions of dollars?

Interesting. I have several relatives on ObamaCare and the premiums actually didn't change much for the past 2 years. Don't think you've got your facts right or you live in one of those "funny inflated money" blue state areas.

The MAJOR increases occurred in Year 2 and 3 of O-care. The more important part is that these crappy plans will absolutely bankrupt the working poor if they ever have to ACTUALLY USE them. They have prevalent $4000 or $6000 deductibles before the plans pay a nickel.

And that $600 is NOT THE FUCKING COST of the insurance. OPM (other people's money) is paying the BULK of that cost.. That''s why you and Occasio Cortez are so confused about the "state of healthcare and insurance"..

Costs me more for pet than a "well child".. $120 a year will get you two visits for a physical and follow-up.. There's no magic to "well care"..
