....there's obviously a serious lack of awareness on the Left these days. Actually it can be said all of humanity suffers a serious lack of awareness - on the Left what they're missing is the right wing putsch underway. Hell, no doubt half the puppets spewing Ailes' and WND's horseshit have no idea of the scope of this putsch, so it' not surprising it has yet appeared on the radar screen. WI's new super whore gov is merely the designated lead-off batter in the insurgency.
Just ran across this great piece on the Alternet site. I've pasted a nice excerpt below, but check out the description George Lakoff provides for the 'authoritarian personality' - the basis for the reactionary mindset, the source of the Right Wing Disease we're seeing all around us these days.
I'm convinced the liberal/progressive demographic was lulled to sleep during Clinton's fantastically successful presidency, and spent most of the Bushterfuck railing against the idiot president/stooge and not seeing this John Birch Society/Barry Goldwater/Ron Paul Looneytarian-style putsch being launched. Pfffffft!....right under the radar screen.
Things will be getting MUCH more interesting as the nation continues on to it's now inevitable 3d World status. The Oligarchs will continue to convince the authoritarians/reactionaries that their government helping poor people and educating the public has made them poor - not the thousands of crooks hanging around Wall Street and K Street - nope, those are the good guys, just trying to look out for them.
Fasten your seat belts, folks. And check out our nation's history in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Redux city.
In the 2008 campaign, candidate Obama accurately described the basis of American democracy: Empathy - citizens caring for each other, both social and personal responsibility-acting on that care, and an ethic of excellence. From these, our freedoms and our way of life follow, as does the role of government: to protect and empower everyone equally. Protection includes safety, health, the environment, pensions and empowerment starts with education and infrastructure. No one can be free without these, and without a commitment to care and act on that care by one's fellow citizens.
The conservative worldview rejects all of that.
Conservatives believe in individual responsibility alone, not social responsibility. They don't think government should help its citizens. That is, they don't think citizens should help each other. The part of government they want to cut is not the military (we have 174 bases around the world), not government subsidies to corporations, not the aspect of government that fits their worldview. They want to cut the part that helps people. Why? Because that violates individual responsibility.
