Actually....it's long past the time....

Well, now that America has suffered through another span inflicted on us by the 'Hope and Change Suckers,' the solution to the problems of poverty and the 'underclass' are back to the drawing board.

1. Looking at evidence, such as "...real (inflation-adjusted) median annual household income in America has fallen by 4.4 percent during the "recovery," after having fallen by 1.8 during the recession." (Incomes Have Dropped Twice as Much During the 'Recovery' as During the Recession | The Weekly Standard), one is left with two possible explanations:

a) having been given every option that the Left asked for, their ideas just don't work, ....or

b) the Progressive/Liberal/socialist in charge is a totally incompetent dunce.

2. Step back and realize that if the dilemma could be boiled down to it's simplest it would be stated thusly: the "family," as we have known it throughout Western history, seems terminal. The vast majority of children of the group at issue are born out of wedlock.

The father, as defined by the most ordinary of roles: lives with the mother, goes to work every day, brings home a weekly paycheck, and show his children by example how a responsible male adult is supposed to behave, has nearly vanished.

a. In the inner city the drug dealer is lionized, while the man who mops floors is scorned.

b. The schoolgirl who gets pregnant is envied, while the one who studies hard is taunted.

Which Liberal/Progressive/Democrat programs have addressed, much less made a dent, in these problems?

3. Any who are conversant with the problems could very easily present the argument that Liberal/Progressive/Democrat policies created, or at the least, exacerbated the problems. Midnight basketball, anyone?

4. Yet, there are actually voters so stupid that they claim that not enough is spent to alleviate poverty!!!

a. "... this year the federal government will spend more than $668 billion on at least 126different programs to fight poverty. And that does not even begin to count welfare spending by state and local governments, which adds $284 billion to that figure.
In total, the United States spends nearly $1 trillion every year to fight poverty. That amounts to $20,610 for every poor person in America, or $61,830 per poor family of three."
Scribd

5. On the most basic level....the claim of poor children starving.... "It is nearly impossible in the contemporary United States for a mother to be left without a way to provide her children with a decent diet."
Olasky, "The Tragedy of American Compassion."

a. As a group, America's poor are far from being chronically undernourished. The average consumption of protein, vitamins, and minerals is virtually the same for poor and middle-class children and, in most cases, is well above recommended norms.

Poor children actually consume more meat than do higher-income children and have average protein intakes 100 percent above recommended levels.

Most poor children today are, in fact, supernourished and grow up to be, on average, one inch taller and 10 pounds heavier than the GIs who stormed the beaches of Normandy in World War II.
How Poor Are America's Poor? Examining the "Plague" of Poverty in America

b. Once again, know-it-all Liberal programs:
" The Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010, which required public schools to follow new nutritional guidelines....They are high school students, and their complaint is about lunch — healthier, smaller and more expensive than ever." http://www.nytimes.com/2012/10/06/n...ce-student-rejection.html?pagewanted=all&_r=0

Kids are throwing these mandated meals into the waste baskets.

6. So, why is it that these vast amounts of money don't cure poverty?

Because most of it doesn't get to 'the poor' at all! It goes to the poverty industry- bureaucrats, caseworkers, service providers, and the myriad vendors in the private sector who plan, implement and evaluate social programs on government contracts. And even those funds that do get to said individuals do the opposite of what is promised.

a. What happens when you guarantee an income?
" The Stanford Research Institute (SRI), which analyzed the SIME/DIME findings, found stronger work disincentive effects, ranging from an average 9 percent work reduction for husbands to an average 18 percent reduction for wives..... instead of promoting family stability (the presumed result of extending benefits to two-parent working families on an equal basis), the NITs seemed to increase family breakup." Negative Income Tax, by Jodie T. Allen: The Concise Encyclopedia of Economics | Library of Economics and Liberty

Get it?
Liberal/Progressive/Democrat policies do exactly the opposite of what they aim at.

To put the above in one bullet-point:

>Anyone who isn’t a liberal by age 20 has no heart. Anyone who isn’t a conservative by age 40 has no brain.
— Winston Churchill

Where's the exit strategy for the war on poverty. We've been at it for 50 years and all we have to show is more people in poverty and a middle class that's seen their inflation adjusted standard of living decline and is now hopelessly in debt.

PRESIDENT LYNDON B. JOHNSON: Law and order have broken down in Detroit, Michigan. Pillage, looting, murder…

VO: Only a few years before, President Johnson had promised policies that would create a new and a better world in America. He had called it “the Great Society.”

[ TITLE: President LYNDON JOHNSON, 1964 ]

JOHNSON: The Great Society is in place where every child can find knowledge to enrich his mind. It is a place where the City of Man…

VO: But now, in the wake of some of the worst riots ever seen in America, that dream seemed to have ended in violence and hatred. One prominent liberal journalist called Irving Kristol began to question whether it might actually be the policies themselves that were causing social breakdown.

IRVING KRISTOL: If you had asked any liberal in 1960, we are going to pass these laws, these laws, these laws, and these laws, mentioning all the laws that in fact were passed in the 1960s and ‘70s, would you say crime will go up, drug addiction will go up, illegitimacy will go up, or will they get down?

Obviously, everyone would have said, they will get down.

And everyone would have been wrong.

Now, that’s not something that the liberals have been able to face up to. They’ve had their reforms, and they have led to consequences that they did not expect and they don’t know what to do about.

So....the upshot is, either the Liberal/Progressives/DeathPanelDemocrats are very, very stupid....incapable of learning......

....or, they never had any intention of solving the problem of poverty, of an underclass.....

Hmmmmm......

What ever could they have actually planned for America???

The third great crisis, which continues today, is the challenge of Progressivism, a movement founded by Woodrow Wilson, Theodore Roosevelt, and others.

The Progressives rejected the Founders’ principles, including their notions of a fixed human nature and inalienable natural rights.

Instead, they believed in a human nature that evolved and changed, which in turn justified their efforts to break down separation of powers in order to expand the size and scope of government far beyond the Founders’ intent.

Excellent, Moj!

And from Hillsdale- a bonus!

I constructed a thread based on the idea you've just posted....that Progressive ideas come from other than the Founders.
In fact, from European concepts of government superior to the people it governs.

First and foremost, to understand how the modern liberal thinks. I got – I borrowed a line from Professor Allan Bloom in his brilliant “The Closing of the American Mind.” And if there are any liberals watching at home, if there – are there any liberals in the room? Yes, good, okay, well I promise not to be condescending, all right. Condescending means to talk down to people.

See, Professor Bloom was trying to figure out why suddenly in the 80s his students were suddenly so stupid. Okay, he didn’t use the word “stupid;” he’s a lot more diplomatic than I am. He had been teaching since the 50s and the 50s, 60s, 70s and the 80s, he said that what he received from the public schools, from the primary schools were what he called scholars.

All right, not all of them as smart as each other, some of them harder working, some of them more accomplished. But what he meant by scholars and he tells us in this book — and by the way, the reason I asked if you were liberal, this book was called “Essential Reading for Anyone Who Wishes to Understand the State of Liberal Education in America Today” by the New York Times. I’ll wait while you genuflect.

All right, so this is not just some right winged book.

That’s what it was called. And he was trying to discover, and he would be presented with scholars. And what he meant by scholars were people who arrived at the university to seek the better: the better literature, the better religion, the better philosophy, the better forms of governments. Suddenly in the 1980s by no coincidence when the first children of the children of the 60s were arriving in school, when the first generation not to have been brought up by those from those of the greatest generation and those were the values that preceded the greatest generation.

It was no coincidence that they arrived in the schools, not only not seeking the better, but denying the existence of the better. And what Bloom concluded was that they were raised to believe — this is the big bullet point. They were raised to believe that indiscriminateness is a moral imperative. That the only way to be moral is to not discriminate between right and wrong, good and evil, better and worse, truth and lies because your act of discrimination – discriminating between these things might just be a reflection of your personal discrimination, your bigotries.

They were raised to believe that indiscriminateness is a moral imperative because its opposite is the evil of having discriminated. The second bullet point, and this is an essential corollary, is that indiscriminateness of thought does not lead to indiscriminateness of policy. It leads the modern liberal to invariably side with evil over good, wrong over right and the behaviors that lead to failure over those that lead to success. Why? Very simply if nothing is to be recognized as better or worse than anything else then success is de facto unjust.

Speaking of an "economic crisis".....

1.More than 6.7 million more Americans have been plunged into poverty since Obama became President.

2.Real household income is down 5%

3. Consumer prices are up 10.2%

4. Total federal debt is up 58%

5. Gasoline prices are up 82%

6. Food stamp recipients up 49%

7. Debt held by the public is up 89%

The number of persons living in poverty also worsened again in 2012, according to the most recent Census figures.

8. As of last year, 46,496,000 persons lived in households with income below the official poverty line, an increase of nearly 6.7 million since 2008 and 249,000 since 2011. The total poverty rate remained unchanged in 2012 at 15 percent of the total U.S. population. So for the second straight year, the poverty rate was 1.8 points higher than it was in 2008.

9... in today’s recovery — the slowest in the modern era going back to 1947 — private capital investment has lagged badly. ... so has the jobs situation, with 92 million dropping out of the workforce altogether. A labor-participation rate of 62.8% and an employment-to-population rate of 58% are historic lows indicative of the anemic jobs recovery. Federal deficits have soared between 2009 and 2012, bring the total long-term debt to a level equal to 73 percent of the nation’s GDP. “Between 2009 and 2012, the federal government recorded the largest budget deficits relative to the size of the economy since 1946, causing federal debt to soar.”

Effective one (1) year from today,

(1) Unless you pay Federal INCOME taxes of at least $100, you don't get to vote in the next Federal election (payroll taxes don't count). Voter registration cards are given out by the IRS.

(2) Unless you have paid Federal INCOME taxes of at least $100 in at least 3 of the last five years, there ain't no welfare for YOU! (So you teenage girls better think twice about having that baby).

(3) Unemployment comp ends at 26 weeks. Period.

(4) Any employer who hires anyone without verifying their citizenship (or legal residency) will be fined 2X the total compensation paid to that employee. The supervisor will be fined $1,000 per employee, per month.

(5) Balanced budget amendment.

(6) Cap on personal income tax of $100,000. No exceptions. Once you've paid that much, you are done.

a) having been given every option that the Left asked for, their ideas just don't work, ....or

When have Liberal policies been enacted in the past 30 years?

We've been on this lower taxes/deficit exploding/trickle-down course since Reagan inflicted it upon us, and it has failed miserably.

When are you going to take responsibility for your failed policies?

b) the Progressive/Liberal/socialist in charge is a totally incompetent dunce.

Yeah, Osama bin Laden was saying that just the other day.

So were the soldiers who are now home with their families instead of as target practice in Iraq.

So are all the cannabis entrepreneurs generating revenue for their states, able to operate without Federal interference.

So are all the 3 million young people who have had their health insurance extended until they are 27.

So are all the 4 million signups on healthcare.gov, getting more coverage for less money.

So are all the 3.3 million people now covered under Medicaid.

They all think he's incompetent, too.

Without inflationary monetary policy, the welfare/warfare state would have ended already from a lack of real capital revenue to support it. Which is the real problem we face. Everything else is a symptom of the disease.
