You talk about common sense. There is no requirement to have common sense, in order to buy a gun. There are no tests, written or practical needed. You don't even have to demonstrate you know how to use a gun.

These are things I would support as a gun owner. I am a fishing and hunting guide. For my hunting trips I have several questions I ask before I take clients out. If I don't like the answers I get I don't take them. Not going to die over a duck trip. Same thing with a fishing trip if the waves are not safe I am not running the trip. It is not worth dying for. I watch that coast guard helicopter take of to many times especially during the spring when the water is so cold ya got about 5 minutes before your organs start shutting down. Safety first.

Just now I read a news story about a 3 year old running over and killing a 7 year old with a golf cart. Ban golf carts?

They said that deputies arrived and confirmed a toddler had managed to get hold of an "unsecured handgun" and the one-year-old had sustained a head injury.

These events seem to be happening more and more. And yet nothing ever gets done. There doesnt even appear to be punishment for the parents. It appears to be an acceptable risk in the fight to retain guns.

Given what the NGC says about entry into street gangs (age 14), the percentages of gang members that are teens (minimum 35%), and that American street gangs are stupendously violent, you would expect to see gun homicides rise steeply in the teen years.



And it does. Factor in that street gangs are largely metropolitan and that gun play between black street gangs is the worst of gang violence, and the rest of this chart makes even more sense.

Gun handling is best taught in early target practice with dad, same as safe handling, safe storage, and owner/user maintenance and cleaning.
