Thousands of Walter Reed Employees to Be Furloughed due to Sequester

The sequester was written by Congress, not Obama.

The cuts called for in the sequester are spelled out entirely in the bill. Obama has no leeway in terms of deciding what should be cut, or by how much.

If you're pissed that Walter Reed employees are being furloughed, blame it on the people who wrote the bill that furloughed them, rather than the President who fought against it.

Wrong-o. Democrats voted for it. Obama signed it. The GOP wanted to give Obama more leeway in how to allocate cuts. Obama refused. Any leeway he has is geared to making the cuts as painful as possible. He was hoping the brain-dead voters (like you) would blame the GOP (like you're doing). Unfortunately (for you) the truth is not quite that way.

Walter Reed National Military Medical Center has announced it will be forced to furlough thousands of civilian employees this summer due to the sequester, while President Obama and the first family are planning to take a vacation to Africa that may cost as much $100 million.

According to Fox News Walter Reed plans to furlough thousands; soldier advocacy groups worry about care despite assurances | Fox News , the furloughs are for a period of 11 days "without pay."

Already, 2,400 workers have been notified that they will need to take the days off due to "extraordinary and serious budget challenges."

All our Commander-in-Chief cares about is himself and publicity. Out servicemembers mean nothing to him.

Oh well. Budget cuts can hurt sometimes, can't they?

An absolute disgrace if it happens.
Veteran needing medical care from an injury during active duty? - can't afford it.
Meanwhile the FED is still spending/borrowing $85,000,000,000 per MONTH in bond buying, toxic asset relief (aka paying off dead-risky loans by major banks).

The choice is clear.

There is no "choice". That's the point you guys aren't getting. The law was passed, and you guys cheered it - and now you're trying to blame Obama for something he has no control over.

What a surprise that is.

Yes there is a choice idiot.
I don't call people names often, but you deserve it after a post like that.
Your favorite administration is allowing $85,000,000,000 PER MONTH to be spent on the Wall Street relief fund, making this administration the single largest trickle down economic principles in practice in US history - and this is all you got to say to that.
There is always a choice, the President has WELL WITHIN HIS POWERS to take from one pot and give to another. That is not happening, so sheep like you can blame the opposition for it.

That's simply not true. I can't for the life of me figure out where you guys are getting that from.

The President does NOT have the power to "take from one pot and give to another".

First of all...I shouldn't have called you an idiot. Sorry, just pisses me off that so many people will simply not even comment on the $85 Bn monthly giveaway which again, makes the Obama administration the greatest trickle-down economics admin in history - bay FAR.
The President has it within his power in two ways - one - the microphone. Look at any high achieving administration and you will see a President that uses the microphone not to freaking campaign for himself and blame the other party, but to push policies. Clinton and Reagan were masters of this.
And as CIC, he has broader powers in ordering military disbursements. Look it up.

You seem to have omitted a very important fact, Obama is the one who pushed for the sequester, then attempted to distance himself from the fact after it was approved in the house. You can't expect to spend or tax yourself into prosperity. But then again maybe that is your problem, you just don't see the entire picture. So how far would the $80,000,000 vacation go toward reducing the furlough period? Leaders lead by example not words.

All by his little lonesome self? You might want to recheck that, buckaroo.

You have nothing. In other words, you and the Dems won't cooperate.

We all own the sequester, including you, sunshine.

Money for Syrian Rebels (Terrorists)
Money for Egypt (Terrorists)
But money for our injured heros? Hell no!

Welcome to Obama's America!

They mean nothing to you.

All this is about are the GOP and Dems that won't build a consensus.

This is not to absolve the dems from all responsibility, but the notion was the gop would NEVER let the sequester hits fall on defense, so Obama thought they'd compromise on revenues. They refused to do so. So, the dems refused to essentially cut social welfare twice - once for sequester and a second time to restore defense funds - to give the gop an out on what everyone (including McCain) thought was impossible ... defunding a military at war.

Every time Lonestar reaches bottom, Road Virus lowers the bar. What a stupid statement by RV.

The sequester hurts (legacy of stupid, obstructionist "debt crisis"- together 1.5%+ hit to growth), including the recovery. Boehner: "I got 98% of what I wanted..."

Obama's trip- and much of that "cost" is BS- is a great investment in keeping Africa's business. China certainly isn't as dumb as greedy idiot Pubs and the dupes. Pffft!

We have a revenue problem, dupes of the greedy idiot rich- mainly because the rich actually pay 17% in all taxes and fees, corporations 12%. Middle class 24%, poorest 12%, Romney 9%, many rich and corps 0%...

clanger,

The dem dupes own 2/3 of the govt.

get a clue :cuckoo:

Which is more important? Medical care for vets or obama's vacation. We are just thankful that the 60 million dollar safari was cancelled.

Obama's vacation should be more important if you're a republican. You all think he's trying to destroy the country, so when he's on vacation, you can breath a sigh of relief and you can still whine about the vacation costs at the same time. It's a win win situation. You should pray he takes vacations for the next 3 1/2 years.

dems own 2/3 of government? Repubs have the house, they control the senate with the filibuster, they have 5-4 majority in supreme court. Sounds like repubs own 3/4 of government.
