This is what the Right Wing wants to cut as wasteful

Singing along as a group costs money?

It does if you have someone there teaching them how. Didn't any right wingers ever go school? Or they just don't know how things work? No wonder they hate education.

do you hate everyone or just who you consider a right winger?
you get more pathetic everyday with what you pick out to show your hate...today its kids singing, tomorrow who the hell knows what dumb thing it will be..

good grief.

Deany is as insane as any Batman Villain

you can rdean was a product of this wonderful edumatation...he can't think for himself and just parrots the same crap over and over and over...Republicans want to destroy blaa blaa blaaas

Then you have posts like 3 and 4 where they call children working together "collectivism" and "not American". Since you didn't mention them, you must agree with them, right?

Since you didn't mention Post #6, you must agree with the government indoctrinating kids to promote Obamacare, right?

Actually, I expect you do agree with it.

School's mostly for indoctrinating future citizens as obedient workers as well as warehousing the kids while mom and dad work. Show up on time and don't question authority. This has been a success if you consider the scorn the occupy movement received from the average american. Thirteen years of forced schooling and an amazing number of americans are convinced that sarah palin is a viable candidate for the highest office in the land or that obama is a liberal or marxist, after four years of evidence to the contrary. This is proof positive that dumbing down really works. And really, how many people ever have need for algebra? Probably a small percentage I'd venture to say. Better to separate the kids around age 12 or 13, figure out who will be the doctors and the engineers etc. Maybe the lesser able kids to start learning vocations so they can be more work ready by 18. If we have to incarcerate kids like this, then please, more other activities like music and chess or martial arts or whatever kids want so they don't become troublemakers out of sheer boredom, which is what school is for those that don't want to be there.

What the inner-city needs is EDUCATION. These people don't have parents that install into them as the country kids get.

Understand? Rdean has a point.

That's a problem in it self. Education won't fix that. If it did it, it already would have worked.

When they are up against the wall in a hundred scandals and a mid east crisis you can count on radical lefties to accuse republicans of wanting to kill big bird. It's the way their small (union educated) minds work.

The outrage from the right wing over occupy has proved that people in this country have been brainwashed into believing the "of the people, by the people, and for the people" story and that if you don't have a job then "blame yo' self. Protesting injustice now produces outrage from millions of americans not capable of thinking, only reacting. The pepper sprayed students at u.c. davis should have been a clue as to what goes on at protests. Link below. You don't think occupy and other movements aren't infiltrated by the powers that be? Or that cops don't harrass and intimidate when they think they can get away with it? Happened during the the vietnam protest days. I knew people that got paid for infiltrating and stirring up the crap.

Anyway, back to the schools. If students are forced to be in schools during the best years of their lives, then at least more music and arts for the schools I say. How many fights break out right after a piano competition at schools vs football games?

When I look at what this teacher has accomplished with these children. Children learning to memorize. Learning to work together in a group. Children thinking. So much goes into this.

So sick of right wingers downing this kind of creativity. It's because they just don't "get it".

See, this is why people should change the channel once in a while and get information from other sources. When you have people constantly telling you the same lies over and over, you can't see the truth.

truth

We gave more money to schools to buy more supplies and hire more teachers.

truth

they bought the supplies and kept them in a warehouse, never giving them to the kids. And hire another layer of bureaucrats, not teachers.

but, people like rdean think if we just give the schools more money, things will get fixed, never ever admitting that the problem is internal.

liberals are just that uninformed.

I was never for obamacare. It's millions of customers for private health insurance companies. obama is a right wing republican in drag posing as a democrat and so was clinton. There are no liberals and socialists in any positions of power in this country.

Who forced this person to spend money to get a useless degree in a field that doesn't offer any job prospects?

Hint: Nobody.

"Forced"? Do you even know what that word means? No one is forced to go to school, if you're talking about college.

Good. Justice was served. Now how about all the rapes, sex assaults, and other violent crimes that occurred at Occupy protests? Any justice there?

I never mentioned Obamacare. As for free stuff:
Demand three: Guaranteed living wage income regardless of employment.

Demand four: Free college education.

Demand eleven: Immediate across the board debt forgiveness for all. Debt forgiveness of sovereign debt, commercial loans, home mortgages, home equity loans, credit card debt, student loans and personal loans now! All debt must be stricken from the "Books." World Bank Loans to all Nations, Bank to Bank Debt and all Bonds and Margin Call Debt in the stock market including all Derivatives or Credit Default Swaps, all 65 trillion dollars of them must also be stricken from the "Books." And I don't mean debt that is in default, I mean all debt on the entire planet period.
Yes, that's a list put together by one guy, I know. But he's not alone in demanding free stuff:

And good luck with finding many Occupiers who don't go along with all that.
Proof of what I said. dumbing down works. You're programmed to inject certain words in any post. How sad.
And you're programmed to say that.

What you don't like is that I can think for myself and come to the conclusion that the Occupy movement is nothing more than a pack of spoiled brats demanding that which they haven't earned.

You will not understand this.

I wouldn't cut music but I think reading, writing, math and science is more important! Time to spend more on educating our children.

They deserve every chance! ;) Now a teacher should make 120k per year either. lol but on the other hand they should be paid around 40-60k and the rest goes toward equipment.
Do you think it's okay for a hedge fund manager to make $39,000/hr?

YES!

The person who started this thread (rdean?) needs to become better informed about the Republican platform and how public schools are funded.

The Department of Education funds with federal taxpayer money only special programs, usually mandates for special needs children. Public schools are funded by STATE taxpayer money. Only about 10% of a school's budget comes from federal money and it has to be spent on very specific projects.

Besides, it isn't the Republicans that want to eliminate the Department of Education, it is the Libertarians. And I strongly support the move to dramatically cut the Dept of Ed's role in public school funding.

Why?

Because once taxpayer money quits being used to administer limited programs from far away and out of touch lawmakers, that money can be used by private individuals to make real changes to their local schools.

George Soros made $750 million in 2003. Being generous and figuring he worked 80-hour weeks and had two weeks off for vacation, that's $187,500 an hour.

Do you think that's okay? Or I suppose I should ask -- do you think that's okay now that it's been rubbed in your face?

Are you going to do it?

Are you equally against using taxpayer dollars to give major corporations tax breaks that effectively reduce their tax burden to just 12% a year?
