The US pays about a billion a year to Sudan for this?

Last year, Mariam Yehya Ibrahim was sentenced to death by a Sudanese court for converting to Christianity. Apparently, she took refuge in a US embassy and eventually was granted asylum in the US. But we pay about a billion per year in so-called general relief and humanitarian aid to Sudan for that? So, that they can live in that death cult scenario? And Sudan is allowed to be a member of the UN, why?

Because according to the UN all is fine in Sudan...don't you know Israel is the problem?

This is for refugees of Darfur primarily who have been displaced due to the genocide, and current fighting. Why would we not help the victims of genocide?

Bashir is wanted for war crimes and for crimes against humanity. He has an arrest warrant out for him, unlike any Israeli official, so I'm not sure your cynicism is warranted in this case.

Almost a billion a year, dude. We shouldn't be footing the bill for them to turn around and rob its citizenry of their fundamental rights. There has to be lines drawn.

I feel inclined to point out that we are using the money to help those that the Sudanese government are robbing of their rights to life liberty and property.

Also, as a side note, we don't spend $1billin a year on assistance to Sudan, It is a little over $100 Million (what we gave in 2014).

We think that merely throwing money at a problem is a real solution. It's not. And in fact, we are quite possibly enabling the thugs. Because what's the incentive to revolt if you're just comfortable enough? That's often the end game of these 'humanitarian' missions. Never discount the subversiveness of world governments.

Between 2005-2010, the US donated $8 billion to Sudan. The 2010 base clip was $420 mil per year; and then stuff gets added.

And your link-less 2014 figure is BS. Do you have an agenda to be callously throwing out such incorrect numbers?

We buy food and distribute medical care for victims of genocide. Your cynicism isn't warranted here, nor are we enriching the government that you dislike.

Sudan - Global Humanitarian Assistance

2003-2012: Sudan received $17.4 billion in official development assistance (ODA); 42 percent of that not earmarked for 'humanitarian aid.'

2012: Total US assistance: $887 million ($441 million was humanitarian)
2012: $1.8 billion cost of 'multilateral peacekeeping operations.'

We don't give the Sudan $1 billion every year.

Also worth noting is that South Sudan is a completely different country now.

Am I arguing against the humanitarian efforts? But your'e pretending that's all there is to it. What we are doing is perpetuating a bad situation. Arm the men and let them fight for their country. And you certainly don't donate to their economy if they think they are allowed to rob their citizenry of basic freedoms. You're throwing in the humanitarian/genocide stuff to confuse the issue.

Those are merely transactional costs and not the amounts of donations (aid), which are well documented.

We aren't arming anyone, there is an arms embargo against Sudan. I am citing the genocide in Darfur because that is where we spend our money. in providing services to refugee camps. You literally have no idea what you are talking about here. Other than that we care about security along the Sudan - South Sudan border which eats up security funds on our part and was why spending was so high in the past.

No they aren't. They are disbursed funds. Read the site.
