The Sad Legacy of Ronald Reagan

Frank sir. So the budget problem we have this year is not Obama's fault?

So Ronald was not the great communicator but a President hamstrung by a Congress which created the recovery despite him?

I mean no disrespect nor do I intend to threaten or insult you enough to belittle me. Just making conversation.

Well you're not terribly bright, so its not an illuminating conversation.

The budget is Obama Reid and Pelosi fault, no budget in over 1,000 days and a Scary Redistributer as POTUS

Someone with even a passing, grade school familiarity with our form of government would know that Congress controls spending...

Also, did you know that Reagan called for eliminate[huh?] of teh[sic] Department of Education aqs[sic] a way to control spending?

Did you know that Democrats (who controlled Congress) declared Reagan's budgets "Dead on arrival"?

Defeating the USSR was something Reagan did as CinC.

Congress controls spending

Calls for getting rid of Dept of Ed were silly and meant for political talking points.

Democrats declared Reagan budgets as dead on arrival? Care to post credible links to this nugget of wisdom?

Reagan did not defeat the USSR nor did anyone else. btw, The Berlin Wall was a German matter.

Sixty-three Democrats subsequently joined the solid Republican minority, sending Reagan's budget to the Senate with a vote of 253-176.

----

After Reagan proposed his Economic Recovery Plan, Speaker Tip O'Neill said, "We're not going to let them [the Republicans] tear asunder programs we've built over the years.

All through the spring and summer of 1981, Reagan lobbied Congress to cut welfare, the food stamp program, school meals, and Medicare and Medicaid. Congress went along with most of the president's plan, passing the Economic Recovery Tax Act on July 29, 1981.

Dante when are you going to do "The Sad Legacy of obama" thread?

I would think after he is out of office and people who denigrated him later support an Obama Legacy Project?

even Newt called Reagan weak on defense and the Soviet Threat.

That work goes on, with Reagan's acolytes still building and burnishing. The Reagan Legacy Project, started in 1997 by the conservative ...

:clap2: would be funny if I could get the picture of you out of my mind --- the one where you wet your pants thinking people actually listen to your opinions on Obama. When you stop being so irrational, you may find people listening

Too bad the only President that conservatives & neocons like Kristol (PNAC & Fox employee) ceaselessly point to is Ronnie:

Still, with the impending publication of Reagan's White House diaries, the legacy-building is likely to intensify -- if only because his followers are banking everything on him. In the pantheon of modern presidents, the Democrats claim Roosevelt, Truman, Kennedy and Johnson. The Republicans have only Reagan. Neither Ford nor Nixon commands his party's devotion, and Eisenhower, who resisted McCarthyism, has little to offer the cultural and religious conservatives who dominate the party today.

BANANA REPUBLIC
The United Fruit Company

"At this time in Guatemala, just 2.2 percent of the population owned over 70 percent of the country's land. Only 10 percent of the land was available for 90 percent of the population, most of whom were Indians. Most of the land held by the large landowners was unused. Arevalo was succeeded in another free election by Jacobo Arbenz who continued the reform process begun under Arevalo. Arbenz proposed to redistribute some of the unused land and make it available for the 90 percent to farm. Here is where the problem arose: United Fruit was one of the big holders of unused land in Guatemala. The pressure mounted against UFCO and finally the company complained to the many friends it had within the U.S. government including President Eisenhower and Secretary of State John Foster Dulles, saying that Guatemala had turned communist.

The U.S. State Department and United Fruit embarked on a major public relations campaign to convince the American people and the rest of the U.S. government that Guatemala was a Soviet "satellite".

Really?

Reagan left a budget surplus & he didn't cut services to the non-rich & the elderly?

Do you know who Reagan was? You seem to not have even a tiny clue.

Taking advantage of a damaged Presidency, the Progressives passed the "Congressional Budget and Impoundment Control Act of 1974" which neutered the Executive branch ability to control the national purse strings.

Reagan asked for a line-item veto about a million times and that was BEFORE the Democrats lied to his face that they would cut spending by $2 for every $1 tax increase
