Well this is interesting. Scientists are still concerned about the rest of the world's ice caps and glaciers, but this set of glaciers have lost no ice.

Just a quick aside, they busted a man stealing glacial ice for restaurants to serve drinks with in Chile. Tons of ice. Tons and Tons.

Designer ice cubes as it were.

Global warming or white russians for tourists using Jorge Montt ice cubes:lol:

Here's the article from the Guardian.

The world's greatest snow-capped peaks, which run in a chain from the Himalayas to Tian Shan on the border of China and Kyrgyzstan, have lost no ice over the last decade, new research shows.

The discovery has stunned scientists, who had believed that around 50bn tonnes of meltwater were being shed each year and not being replaced by new snowfall.

The study is the first to survey all the world's icecaps and glaciers and was made possible by the use of satellite data. Overall, the contribution of melting ice outside the two largest caps – Greenland and Antarctica – is much less then previously estimated, with the lack of ice loss in the Himalayas and the other high peaks of Asia responsible for most of the discrepancy.

Bristol University glaciologist Prof Jonathan Bamber, who was not part of the research team, said: "The very unexpected result was the negligible mass loss from high mountain Asia, which is not significantly different from zero."

Like I keep saying................

The k00ks are experiencing spectacular level of losing in recent years and clearly, the worm has turned. And I couldnt be laughing harder.

Too.........the polar ice caps are melting much more slowly then the k00ks have been leading us to believe................ Earth's Polar Ice Melting Less Than Thought - US News and World Report

But the real issue here is not ice............it is that all of these k00k climate models as presented by the alarmist contingent are ALWAYS WRONG..........and meanwhile, they continue to push the most freaky radical energy agenda's. They want a windmill in every American's backyard tomorrow or the planet be damned..........and people just dont want to hear it anymore, thus, the epic levels of losing.

Computer models...............:gay:

Interesting. I wonder if there are any measurements of the isostaticy involved in the earlier ice loss?

http://pubs.usgs.gov/pp/p1386f/pdf/Asia_front_pgs.pdf

Measuring any isostasy in the Himalya would be problematic. The region is rising at around 1 inch per year due to oceanic plate/continental collision.

Hey West.........the Himilaya's dont count!!!:banana::banana::up:

:lol::lol: Yeah, that's kind of a major swing isn't it. Just a couple of years ago the Himalaya were going to be ice free in 25 years, now they aren't losing any ice at all. That IPCC sure does suck major wind doesn't it?:lol:

According to the photo study by the USGS, the Himalayas are losing ice area. According to the GRACE study, the mass of the ice is in near steady state for the last ten years. So, are the higher glaciers gaining ice, and the lower ones losing it? More study will resolve the issues, and we will have more information concerning that vitally important area in the water supply of the Asian peoples.

Do you denier cultists leave out the other pertinent parts of the articles you quote in an attempt to be deliberately deceptive or are you just too lamebrained and lazy to actually read the material you're trying to use in a debate? LOLOLOLOLOL.

I posted on another thread where this bit of deceptive partial truth popped up, this more complete quote from the article cited in the OP, but I guess this will be the denier cult meme-of-the-week for a while and this bit of misinterpretation will show up on many threads, no matter what the topic. Hopefully, debunking it here on its home thread, so to speak, will squash this nonsense for good. On the other hand, given how gullible the deniers are...... Anyway here's the parts the deniers want to ignore and deny.

The scientists say that the highest mountains in the Himalayas seem to be accumulating more ice from increased snowfall, rather than losing ice mass as much as was previously estimated. They also said this other stuff that you must want to ignore:

(excerpts from your linked article)

However, the scientist who led the new work is clear that while greater uncertainty has been discovered in Asia's highest mountains, the melting of ice caps and glaciers around the world remains a serious concern. "Our results and those of everyone else show we are losing a huge amount of water into the oceans every year," said Prof John Wahr of the University of Colorado. "People should be just as worried about the melting of the world's ice as they were before." His team's study, published in the journal Nature, concludes that between 443-629bn tonnes of meltwater overall are added to the world's oceans each year. This is raising sea level by about 1.5mm a year, the team reports, in addition to the 2mm a year caused by expansion of the warming ocean.

The scientists are careful to point out that lower-altitude glaciers in the Asian mountain ranges – sometimes dubbed the "third pole" – are definitely melting. Satellite images and reports confirm this. But over the study period from 2003-10 enough ice was added to the peaks to compensate. Bristol University glaciologist Prof Jonathan Bamber, who was not part of the research team, said:: "The new data does not mean that concerns about climate change are overblown in any way. It means there is a much larger uncertainty in high mountain Asia than we thought. Taken globally all the observations of the Earth's ice – permafrost, Arctic sea ice, snow cover and glaciers – are going in the same direction."

To the radical nutters.............its easy for them = just ignore the emerging reality!!:coffee:

The IPCC is getting pwned.........which again calls into question their credibility, which is already in the shitter.

Ray.....but that sentiment is shared by only a few. A huge majority of people have concluded that fucked up weather events have been happening since weather began.........and they would be correct. For example and as I have previously demonstrated recently in another thread.........epic levels of flooding are nothing new. My link demonstrated going back well into the mid 1800's that flooding is a common catostrophic occurrence all over the world. Even did a quick google search and came up with the history of flooding in Pennsylvania with fucked up flooding happening going waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay back to the early 1800's. Susquehanna River Basin Flood Forecast and Warning System_history

And heres a list of the worlds most severe hurricanes and they date back into the 1700's for Christsakes. http://www.epicdisasters.com/index.php/site/comments/the_ten_deadliest_hurricanes_world_wide/

And the hotttest days ever recorded in US history? 2008? Nope. 1998? fAiL. How about 2011? Wrong again!!!! Try the early 1900's http://www.epicdisasters.com/index.php/site/comments/coldest_and_warmest_days_in_the_united_states/

The first Model T had not even rolled off the line yet!!!

No......the intensity and freqnency of fucked up weather events is going have to change SIGNIFICANTLY to have any impact on people. What I mean by that is something dramatic.........not these typical weather events people have been seeing on and off for their whole lives. And the operational definition of "dramatic" is going to take something like Nome Alaska spending 8 weeks above 40 degrees in mid-winter. Otherwise, nobody is going to care a hoot.

INdeed........the numbers compiled by the Pew Poll indicate that there is a very clear minority who are moved by all this "weather disaster" stuff.........not to mention, even if they were moved by it, they know there isnt shit we can do about it anyway!!:2up:
