The failure of the GOP to produce credible presidential candidates

They represent hte same portion (not same people just portion/percentage) as the OWS people represent.

No, that isn't true. When I say that the support for TP positions is no more than 25%, I don't mean support for the movement itself, I mean support for what the movement stands for: reduction in government services, deregulation of business, purist free-market capitalism, social conservatism. Support for the goals and issues of Occupy is overwhelming; something like 80-90% of the people believe that the money needs to be gotten out of politics, that wealth is distributed unfairly, and that the government serves the interests of the rich, not the people.

Of course, the Democratic Party is not basing itself on Occupy, either, but that may happen; anyway the changes the Democrats need to go through are outside the scope of this thread. I'm not saying there aren't any.

41% Say Their Views Closer to Tea Party

you are exxagerating the support a lot.

None of the Tea Baggers are real Republicans. No more so than John Birch Society members were real Republicans

They have managed to hijack the party and take it to the far right. They are the Republicans in name only

The genuine Republicans are the moderates. Always have been

For example?

Genuine Republicans are moderates? Where does this fellow stick his head. This is the reason for the tea party. To get the 'genuine' Republicans back to where they belong. Where the real genuine republicans are awaiting them with open arms. :)

OWS is the reason for the Lib stance of giving free stuff for all and why not?

Just get it from the rich. ;)

I'm still waiting for an example of an individual so I can better understand what RW meant...............as it stands now he sounds a bit loopy but i'll give him time to present an example or 3.

The Republican field for president seems frustratingly weak.
40 years ago the GOP was a strong party with credible leaders. They represented family values, small government, and strong national defense. Today, they don't seem to represent anything?

The Tea Party is the Republican Party Waterloo, as independents are running away from the radical policies the tea party has forced onto the GOP this year. Independents are not happy with Obama, but poll after poll has shown that Independents would prefer him over the new Tea Party lead GOP. The Tea Party is the worst thing that has ever happened to the Republican Party, and 2012 will be the final nail that splits the GOP up for years to come. So, Whatever happened to Reagan's God's honest truth of placing Country over politics. President Reagan must be rolling over in his grave watching what NeoCons have done to the grand ol' party he rebuilt. Shame:death:

Balaced budgets, reduced govt spending, reducing the size/scope/power of govt, and repealing obamacare are all radical positions?

What tea party positions do you consider radical?

Is this the part where the far left whackaloons tell us who to run and then proceed to trash said candidate?

No. This is the part to ask why the Republicans have put forward third raters, a birfer and a candidate the party doesn't really want.

This is baffling since the President is so weak and beatable.

Where is a credible conservative candidate? A conservative could win next year but probably not the ones on show.

And whatever you might say about the far left whackaloons, at least one did not zoom to the top of the polls like Trump did. That's like a twoofer leading the Dem polls in 2003. Absolutely fucking bizarre.

Ending the Fed and going to a gold standard is radical.

The Republican field for president seems frustratingly weak. The front runner is not conservative. He was the inspiration for ObamaCare and has a "pro choice" past. And then there is Perry, who seems intellectually unfit. Finally there is Cain, the anti-Romney candidate, who is fast becoming a joke. Behind the "Big Three" we see people like Gingrich and Bachman, who can't be taken seriously as candidates.

A question arises. What happened to the Republican Party? Have they lost anything of value on the long road from William F Buckley & Milton Friedman to Sarah Palin & Donald Trump? Can anyone speculate why this once great party has become such a powerful breeding ground for misfits, morons, and opportunists?

Watch Ron Paul get the nomination and beat Obama...

n case you haven't noticed, Cain is the front runner, and has been for awhile. Also, when was the last good Democrat president that actually done well for America? Kennedy would be my guess. Those who live in glass houses should not throw stones.

Its no more radical than coming off the gold standard was when we did that.....but I understand the point you make that its a radical departure from the current setup. Thank you for at least giving an example!

Let's add slashing taxes on the wealthy and closing the EPA, IRS and Dept of Education

Really? Considering their opposition, I'd say they could run Bozo the Clown and win.

Which "Teabaggers" do you consider RINO's and why do you consider them RINO's?

Yes i'm looking to debate their RINO status with you.

Ronald Reagan.

There's a reason he picked up so many Democratic crossovers, and there's a reason he was able to work with Tip. Moderates are pragmatists. He's spinning in his grave right now when he sees the hard lines the Tea Party forces the GOP to take. Hell, Reagan was willing to work with his sworn enemies, the Russians, when he saw a chance to get things done. What the Tea Party has done to his legacy is a crime.

If you think you beat an incumbent President by being "Not Him" you should ask Kerry or Dole how that worked out for them.

You can get away with being the "Not the Incumbent" candidate farther down ticket, but up ticket people tend to vote for the incumbent candidate unless you really make a case for why you're the better man. Most of the GOP field seems to have forgotten this, which is downright scary. Here in the primary phase of the game you set yourself apart based on your ideas, and right now you have a whole group of folks for whom their only publicly stated policy initiative is "I'm not Obama."
