The electric car = A JOKE

Lordy me. People do lie like hell!

Remember Prius has been around for a decade so they have quite and advantage. When you look at the a volt a and a Prius side by side there are comparisons to be made.

The volt is the car of the future. They are better built, better engineered, safer and have technology the Prius just doesn't have. The Volt is more expensive but since it is a first generation car this is bound to come down and then there is a simple question of value.

The volt is more like a diesel electric locomotive in that the the gas engine is used mostly to run a generator that charges the battery. I am not totally sure but I don't think the gas engine drives the car much directly, if ever.

The volt is an absolute joy to ride in. The suspension is rather stiff but it pays off in superb handling. The interior looks more like a Cadillac than a chevy.

It may be that the clean diesel can give both of these a run for their money for economy. As for me the only thing the volt lacks is the price. That's quite a bit but they are beating their sales projections.

The Volt loses money on every car made. The government buys most of them and subsidizes the rest.

The government can boost the sales of Volt any time it wants. Just buy them all and give them out free.

All hybrids

units 34,558

versus last month -7.1%

versus June 2011 171.8%

cytd 217,701

versus cytd 2011 63.5%

All vehicles

units 1,281,417

versus last month -3,7%

versus June 2011 22.2%

cytd 7,248,893

versus cytd 2011 14.9%

So there you have it. Total increase in vehicle sales 14.9% in the last year. Total increase in hybrids for the same period, 63.5%. That is a pretty strong trend.

Hmmm.........I guess the CNN article I posted above was BS!!!!:coffee: The Automobile Magazine artilce? Clearly contrived.:D

%'s dont mean dick unless they are compared to something significant............not themselves. I suppose one day I can try taking a Viagra and maybe my dick gets 17% stiffer..............dont matter for shit if she doesnt notice.

Really? You trust CNN? The same network that said the SC struck down Obamacare for 7 minutes and WAS WRONG ALL 7 MINUTES?

CNN sucks ass as a news source nowdays.

The VOLT (which SUCKS as a HYBRID) is being sold as a total EV.. The HYPE is the difference here. I have no doubt that HYBRIDS are a growing market. Especially when they match the amenities and performance of ICE vehicles. The VOLT (in the words of the OP) IS a cruel joke on those gullible enough to buy it as an EV.. Especially when the TRUE lifetimes of that battery stack under CONSUMER conditions start to be known..

Really? They're "on track to sell nearly 18,000 huh? Well that's strange, just this JAN. they were telling everybody that they were gonna sell 45,000 of these things..

GM To Keep Volt Production In Line With Demand - Driver's Seat - WSJ

Volt sales in 2011 fell well short of GM’s goal to sell 10,000 in the U.S. The auto maker is looking to sell 45,000 Volts in 2012

Where have we seen that kind of damage control before??

Another professional review for 2011. They are better now than they were then.

Actually it surprises me that GM did not use a turbo'ed clean diesel in the Volt. That would raise the mileage way up. But it would also raise the price, which is already high enough. However, that would be a logical next step.

At one time it was debated how the motor car would go, steam, electric or gasoline? When I was a kid one still saw an occassional electric car, they were tall and inside had vases with fake flowers. They also came with a tiller instead of steering wheel and were factory equipped with two old ladies. They were quiet, seemed reliable and needed no hand cranking or antifreeze.

laugh my balls off..............:clap2:

Hell, the 1972 Datsun 210 four door will shut that one down. Just think what an electric car designed from the ground up will do when the manufacturing of the present battery technology catchs up to what's in the lab.

I recognize that there are limpwristers out there who would prefer a Tesla over a Terminator. Cant help the helpless.

Just sayin the Tesla will beat the Cobra in a drag race and rather handily at that.

Maybe -- But the Cobra will get ya home after the race..

Tesla libel suit against Top Gear fails again

The dustup, as you may recall, began when Top Gear put the Tesla Roadster through its paces on the show's test track. While Jeremy Clarkson lauded the car's acceleration, the segment claimed the vehicle ran out of juice after just 55 miles of abuse. That figure is far south of the 200 mile range Tesla claims for the vehicle. CEO Elon Musk called the show "completely phony" not long after the segment aired and brought out the legal guns. The rest, as they say, is history.

PM me when ya wanna go 20 laps at Daytona... :D

At present, that is the problem with EV's. But not for long. Many differant battery technologies coming down the pike.

But for those that are not trying to play Mario Andretti on public roads, even the electrics that we presently have will result in significant savings on energy. Particulary if you complement your purchase of an electric with the purchase of a solar installation.
