The Education of Palin vs Obama

way to ignore the entire rest of my post and argument...
Your argument is that becae The Obama went to Harvard Law, he is, on that alone, necessarily better qualified to be Predient than Palin.

Hogwash. The Obama's education was -wasted- on HIm.

this argument counselor.

"so why hasnt anyone since Truman been elected president without a college degree? maybe because the general public see the value of a higher education? you point out one anomaly in the last 100 years and all of a sudden that changes everything? and you have a law degree? thats like citing one specific case and claiming it as the only evidence, with the overwhelming majority of evidence claiming the opposite. i think thats a loser in the jury's eyes. "

Obama still hasn't released a single scrap of paper from his college and law school days, why?

Obama's racked up annual deficits of over $1.3 Trillion, how is that smart?

Obama ran from a press conference and had Clinton speak for him because he's a pussy whipped moron, what school taught him that, Harvard? Columbia? His Indonesia Madrassah?

Or maybe it's mere coincidience and this is just another case of a liberal seeing causality where there isn't any. Again if the guy is so bright, why is he such an economic and policy idiot?

Yes. I read it the first time. On its face it is irrelevant, given the nature of the claim in the OP. Further, you're presenting a simple 'appeal to populatiry', a logical fallacy.

Thus, where you went to school doesn't in any way necessitate that you are more/less qualified to be Presiden than anyone else.

well Reagan was a military man. should we require that all presidents have served in the active military? :cuckoo:

your argument in one of ignorance. and seeing as how the OP has no mention of Truman, Reagan, Carter, or any other president youre using simply to steer the conversation off its original intention. there is no comparison in the post of any of these past presidents. so at least try to stay on top.

by your ridiculous standards, college education has no value in the real world.

"but the fact is that you don't need any notable degree of intelligence to get into Harvard Law"
but you do in fact need an actual degree. which means you will have had to gone to an accredited college or university and graduated. oh and you actually need to do well in school to get in.

Harvard Law School

Applicants accepted: 12.2%
Number of 2006 applicants: 6,810
Number of 2006 matriculants: 558
LSAT range (25 to 75 percentile): 169 to 175
GPA range (25 to 75 percentile): 3.95 to 3.72
Good grades and a high score on the LSAT

Read more: Answers.com - What are the requirements for entering Harvard Law School

You should look at Harvard Law School for exact stats, but I think its around 169- 175 LSAT, 3.75-4.0 GPA. These are just the median (25% to 75% range) but it should give you an idea of where you stand.

Theres also a really good guide on how to get into the law school. Check out the guide in the related links at the bottom of this page titled "How to get into Harvard Law School"

According to harvard.edu: "The applicant must have earned a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university by August of the year for which they are applying. Said applicant must also have taken and passed the Law School Admission Test (LSAT). Applicants generally rank in top 10% of their college's graduating class in the top 5% of the LSAT. Percentile requirements are sometimes waived as candidates are judged on their overall educational ability/achievements and societal attributes. Approximately 7,000 students apply each year for 550 law school openings."
The most important aspect is to have great grades in school. Harvard wants you to do well in accelerated classes rather than to exceed in regular classes. Consider taking honors or AP classes. If you have anything less than a high "B" average then you have very little chance of getting in.
You also need to do very well on standerdized tests. Make upwards of 1300 on SAT1 or from 30 to 36 on the ACT. Consider taking test prep.
In terms of extracurricular activities quality is better than quantity.

Instead of focusing on Obama in this argument, why don't we all focus on Palin for a while? Someone here has already posted a list of her notable 'achievements'.

I'm sorry, but if a guy with a record and education like Obama had a hard time in the office, I can only imagine what it will do with Palin. She'd probably be the first prez to just straight out give up (judging by her record). And that would be a sad moment for women in politics seeing the first female president failing so terribly ... I'm sorry, but if you have half a brain (unless you are a misogynist) you won't vote for her sorry ass. As a woman, I wouldn't want a specimen like her to be the first U.S. female president. But that's totally beside the point.

Wow. For somebody who recently ranted in a thread about people who spend $7 per day on food being Rich, it's fascinating to see CS genuflect at the altar of Ivy League Education Elitism.

Obama's education and job experience prior to becoming president were in a hermetically sealed academic and progressive bubble. He has no real experience in the real world, has never created a real job, never had to meet payroll, never had to comply with the mass of regulations that he and his egghead theoreticians impose on the private sector while exempting themselves.

I'm not a Palin fan, but between the two, she is much more in touch with real America, and would make far better decisions than the Epic Fail performed by Obama.

you and your $7 a day on food. Which i have since proved withing the norms of society. :cuckoo:

Palin left Wasilla $20M in debt when she left office
PolitiFact | Numbers right, context missing

She left the state of Alaska with 70% GDP to debt ratio:
Post-Palin Alaska has largest debt burden in US // Current

even the people of her fair city and state think shes a bad politican:
A Wasillan On Sarah Palin - The Daily Dish | By Andrew Sullivan

she actually doesnt make good decisions as evidenced here.

Only $20M of Debt?

That sounds great! Much better than the $Ts Obambi has added.

And now, please explain how Obama's academic and political experience prepared him for the biggest Chief Executive Officer job in the world?

i found this really interesting:

here is Sarah Palin's education:

After graduating from high school, Palin enrolled at the University of Hawaii in Hilo. Shortly after arriving in Hawaii, Palin switched to Hawaii Pacific University for a semester in the fall of 1982 and then North Idaho College in the spring and fall of 1983. She attended the University of Idaho in the fall of 1984 and spring of 1985, and attended Matanuska-Susitna College in the fall of 1985. Palin returned to the University of Idaho in the spring of 1986, receiving her bachelor's degree in communications with an emphasis in journalism in 1987.
After graduating, she worked as a sportscaster for KTUU-TV and KTVA-TV in Anchorage, and as a sports reporter for the Mat-Su Valley Frontiersman, fulfilling an early ambition.

so to sum it up, she attended 5 (one of them twice) different colleges before getting a Communications degree.

Obama's Education:

Following high school, Obama moved to Los Angeles in 1979 to attend Occidental College.
Later in 1981 he transferred to Columbia University in New York City, where he majored in political science with a specialty in international relations and graduated with a B.A. in 1983. In late 1988, Obama entered Harvard Law School. He was selected as an editor of the Harvard Law Review at the end of his first year, and president of the journal in his second year. He graduated with a Juris Doctor (J.D.) magna cum laude from Harvard in 1991

so to sum this one up, starts at Occidental, finishes at Columbia with a degree in political science then graduates magna cum laude with a law degree (J.D.) from harvard.

not to knock the University of Idaho, but it sure as hell isnt Occidental, Columbia or Harvard.

now why do people think she is qualified to be president????? :cuckoo:

I woudn't let either lead me to a picnic if I was a freakin' ant. If THAT is our choices, we're fucked.

Caligula, anyone?

Where is the post from a con extolling the greatness of higher education?

Where is the evidence that paying tens of thousands of dollars to an institution for a piece of paper gives you an education?

It's in the paycheck of those who earned the piece of paper. Oh and in most institutions not only do you have to pay but you also have to do the work as well. Not that that ensures you'll be educated, but at least you can put it on your resume.

Deficit is up, although this was started by the stimulus and TARP (both Bush program) -this about the only thing that is of concern to me right now. so i agree he hasnt cut the deficit, although he did not campaign on it either.

where was your deficit outcry from 2000-2008?

How are our boarders less secure? Have we has a major terrorist attack in Obama's watch?
Bush took away more freedoms with the enactment of the Patriot Act than any president in history.

Uh. Moron.

Your graphs all start after the Dems took over Congress in the 2006 elections.

You also display an incredibly ignorant view of economics.

Wasilla has a population of 7,028 (City of Wasilla : Wasilla Facts)

That is a debt of $2,845 per person. When she took office the city of $0 debt
She increased spending by 63% in ran up the debt.
The Palindrone Perspective: Under Palin, Wasilla Government Spending And Debt Skyrocketed

sounds like a great plan for the country

if Obama has added the same amount of per person debt to the county. (based on a 307,000,000 population) the debt would have rise $62,629,336,200. thats $62 trillion.

Last edited:
I haven't studied the Wasilla budget in depth (and neither have you, CS) - but this looks like long term infrastructure related debt for a big sports facility. Capital expenditures are often handled with bond debt by states and municipalities.

This is a far different scenario than engaging in Ton-O-Debt for short term consumption, as Obama has done. The only thing he did that is shovel worthy is kill the recovery. It's time to bury that corpse and start over.
