Stimulus bill already working!

How can something be working that has barely even started down the federal pipeline.

Ravi that might nt be the most retarded statement you've ever made here but it has to be top five.

Do you play the market?

Ever hear the expression, buy on the rumor, sell on the news?

Well perhaps as it relates to the stimulus package one should:

Spend on the rumor and save on the news?

We took a mini vacation to Lancaster, PA. The area was as busy as anything I've seen. The mall was PACKED, a Waffle House we went to had a huge wait, and the roads were full of cars. Kiplingers rated Lancaster one of the 10 best places to ride out the recession, though. Housing hasn't taken a beating there, and employment is doing well. So maybe that area isn't the best indicator.

This spending bill is the single most massive expansion of government in the history of America. Over 200 new government agencies will be created, and they will NEVER be shut down. It's a drunken, thoughtless, without regard to the American public's support, spending ORGY! It will also create a debt so large that we will NEVER be able to pay it off. It's socialism, period. We've got it, and saying we don't at this point is pure horse shit.

What will we ever do after it's failed? Spend 50 trillion next time, or just go complete communist?

People should be scared. A bill got passed that most who voted for it haven't even READ it. :cuckoo:

The economy still keeps churning. Lest we forget, almost 93% of America is still employed. Normally, we consider an unemployment rate of 4% to 5% as being as close to full employment as we will ever get. So at present, the 7.6% rate is only minimally above the full employment rate.

Don't get me wrong, there are many Americans hurting right now, and it's probably going to get worse before it gets better. However, all the stories of gloom and doom do more harm than good when it comes to turning this thing around. This isn't as bad as the Great Depression as we are constantly told. That is the kind of spin that leads to making irrational decisions on the part of both people and government.

The media could amazingly turn the whole thing around by running reports with positive spin for just a few days. A couple lead stories on the evening news broadcast networks, a couple days of the primetime cable network shows putting positive spin on things, and the economy would turn around. Investors would pump up stock prices, businesses would get revenue boosts, and people would start to spend again.

Not that I think that would be optimal, but the media has all the power. There's positive spin that can be put on our situation, and there's negative spin. There are plenty of GOOD things the media could focus on, but yet they feel compelled to continue reminding us how bad it still is.

Here is the biggest flaw in all this "stimulus" from both sides, and I can't remember who said it: It's natural for markets to rise and fall, the amount they fall though is often amplified by the amount of credit it is built on. When has throwing money at something that's going to happen anyway done any good? Now it's on its natural upturn ... as predicted by the person who spoke. The newest bill couldn't have effected it this early in the game.

Funny how they think that way though huh?

At first glance, I thought the thread title was a joke... now I'm sure it is.

Damn, good thing me and Mr. Ravi celebrated V-Day last night because there isn't an open reservation in the entire downtown area of Hollywood, f l a. We were going to go watch a singer/musician friend of ours tonight but we couldn't find a place to eat.

Or things aren't as bad as the fear monger says they are ? :eusa_whistle:

Which fear monger? You have to be more specific. My TV, newspaper, and computer have been saturated with them.

The one that said there would be a monumental catastrophe if this bill does not pass quickly. Some call him the messiah, i call him another lying politician that puts his own agenda ahead of what's best for the country.

That one ....

Bush said the same thing for his bill ... and that one worked just as well.

Fuck Bush too, what's your point ?

That's the only answer you clowns have is Bush this and Bush that.

Obama was supposed to be different. The only difference i see is he's taking Bush's 800 billion and raising him another 800 billion. :cuckoo:

But go ahead and keep supporting this thief and point the finger at Bush.......:eusa_whistle:

Well .. I never said Oabam was different, even when it was him v Hillary. As a matter of fact I said he was "just like Bush Jr., just on the wrong ticket." Many of my liberal friends agreed, none of us voted this last one, even the ones that are avid "obligation to vote" people (talking only about the ones I know), because it was either the Giant Douche or the Turd Sandwich ... either way we would have lost.

Can't disagree with you there.....

I'll even rep you on it .....

Thanks for both. When I saw that South Park episode ... my jaw almost hit the floor, so I like to use that reference a lot now, because of late, it's been that way for many elections (not just federal).

Actually, you can't know that. Things might be even worse. That's the funny thing about stimulating the economy, you can never really know if it works, you can only theorize. Giving people confidence will make people spend.

The problem with using money as stimulus is that then there is no money for the people to spend.

As I said, the stimulus bill is going to help me tremendously.

I just had some people call me who want to buy a house because of the $8,000 tax credit.
