So Liberals.

So WHAT are you talking about, that's never been done?
A living wage?
Government mandated leave?
Subsidised tertiary education?
Government subsidised child care?
Single payer health care?

Surely, if any country has sign onto these things they must be a total Third World basket case by now!
Their citizens must be marching in the streets to get these oppressive policies repealed!

Sweden is said to be the most successful socialist country. Tax rate is 55% they have a 20% vat tax and various other taxes which leaves them with very little disposable income
I'll go with OZ and NZ and their $19/15 min wages.

Lmfao @ $15 bucks an hour they are still poor as hell shit for brain's like we have been saying all along.

Time for Rethink on Minimum Wage

TIME FOR RETHINK ON MINIMUM WAGE

TUE 31 MAY 16

United Voice, one of Australia’s biggest unions, has urged the Fair Work Commission to look at a new approach to improve wages for Australia’s low paid workers.

Jo-anne Schofield, National Secretary of United Voice says “We are at a critical point in Australia. For the first time since Federation, Australia has a generation of working poor.

“The $15.80 per week increase announced today – just 41 cents per hour - will provide little relief for low paid workers caught in the trap of rising inequality in our nation.

United Voice notes the Commission’s statement that some low paid workers are living below the poverty line .
Link is bs. So is that.

You wouldn't know the truth if it bit you in the ass

let's discuss your platform! As I understand it you want a $15.00 per hr minimum wage. Guaranteed time off. Who will pay for this?

Gee, that's a real stumper.

I'm going to make a wild assed guess and say the employers will pay for it?
What employers?
Oh, I see.

McDonald's will go under, huh? BWA-HA-HA-HA-HA!
No, but they might just say to hell with it and make their money in other countries. McDonaalds is not obligated to sell their burgers here. It is the small business that will go under. So there goes your jobs. Say bye bye jobs.

The Demise of the American Middle Class In Numbers.

Over the past 35 years the American dream has gradually disappeared. The process was slow, so most people didn’t notice. They just worked a few more hours, borrowed a little more and cut back on non-essentials. But looking at the numbers and comparing them over long time periods, it is obvious that things have changed drastically. Here are the details:

1. WORKERS PRODUCE MORE BUT THE GAINS GO TO BUSINESS.

Over the past 63 years worker productivity has grown by 2.0% per year.

But after 1980, workers received a smaller share every year. Labor’s share of income (1992 = 100%):

1950 = 101%
1960 = 105%
1970 = 105%
1980 = 105% – Reagan
1990 = 100%
2000 = 96%
2007 = 92%

A 13% drop since 1980

2. THE TOP 10% GET A LARGER SHARE.

Share of National Income going to Top 10%:

1950 = 35%
1960 = 34%
1970 = 34%
1980 = 34% – Reagan
1990 = 40%
2000 = 47%
2007 = 50%

An increase of 16% since Reagan.

3. WORKERS COMPENSATED FOR THE LOSS OF INCOME BY SPENDING THEIR SAVINGS.

The savings Rose up to Reagan and fell during and after.

1950 = 6.0%
1960 = 7.0%
1970 = 8.5%
1980 = 10.0% – Reagan
1982 = 11.2% – Peak
1990 = 7.0%
2000 = 2.0%
2006 = -1.1% (Negative = withdrawing from savings)

A 12.3% drop after Reagan.

4. WORKERS ALSO BORROWED TO MAKE UP FOR THE LOSS.

Household Debt as percentage of GDP:

1965 = 46%
1970 = 45%
1980 = 50% – Reagan
1990 = 61%
2000 = 69%
2007 = 95%

A 45% increase after 1980.

5. SO THE GAP BETWEEN THE RICHEST AND THE POOREST HAS GROWN.

Gap Between the Share of Capital Income earned by the top 1%
and the bottom 80%:

1980 = 10%
2003 = 56%

A 5.6 times increase.

6. AND THE AMERICAN DREAM IS GONE.

The Probably of Moving Up from the Bottom 40% to the Top 40%:

1945 = 12%
1958 = 6%
1990 = 3%
2000 = 2%

A 10% Decrease.

Housing too pricey for working poor

Social service agencies say census data has highlighted the new working poor - those who can not afford to put a roof over their heads.

The data from the 2013 Census revealed about 4000 people are living in shacks, garages, and cars - and 2,500 of them are working.

Budgeting experts said housing costs needed to fall into line with incomes, as thousands of families faced the prospect of their finances spiralling out of control.

Pam lives with her son at Western Park Village, a caravan park in Ranui, West Auckland.

"I'm a civil construction labourer, I work from usually 7am til 5pm, and it entails heavy machinery and a lot of labour...I used to live with my sister, but she's got six kids and it was only a three bedroom, so me and my child had to move out," she said.

4000? LOL. And we have millions HOMELESS and more in prison than anywhere in the world. A New BS GOP disgrace.

Who pays for wars, roads, bridges, satellites, corporate ball outs and subsidies?

Who pays the military cost to stabilize Exxon's Mideast oil fields or Walmart's overseas trade routes?

Who paid for the Hoover Dam and the engineering of the Colorado River's massive tributary system so that the Southwest could be populated with modern profit centers?

Who paid for all the insanely profitable technology that came out of the Cold War Defense & NASA budgets?

Who pays for the legal system which protects private property or the Patent System which enables big government to protect the investments of private profit makers?

Who lends money to banks through the fed's discount window so private financial corporations can make a killing loaning money to cash-strapped American families, whose wages are stagnated so the Walton family can afford to buy an entire political party?

Answer: the tax payer.

OP: you should study what our immense revenue pie pays for. You should study all the things done by Uncle Sucker to help profit makers. You should learn about corporate lobbying and election funding, specifically the things which private profit makers extract from the taxpayer. You're only being fed one side of the story. We just need to change our priorities and slice up the revenue differently - maybe spend less in Iraq and more on hard working American families.

If we could get money out of politics and re-adjust the revenue pie, than we could start rebuilding the middle class nation of the postwar years, with its higher wages, affordable education and health care. Study the economic growth in the 50s-60s when great president's like Eisenhower were in office. Study Ike's tax policy and infrastructure investment and his trade policies which made it harder for corporations to lower wages by shifting production overseas.

Study the economic growth during Eisenhower's presidency when the top tax rate was way higher. We paid for all the stuff you're talking about. Wages were so high that the mother could afford to stay home and raise the kids. It was a family-centric economy, a conservative utopia which paid immense character dividends.

Don't kid yourself. TODAY we pay a huge price for unnecessary stuff that helps the people who've captured Washington.

Also, we pay a ton of money to support our low-wage regime. From law enforcement budgets to government aid to Walmart workers, to all the untapped excellence/productivity that results from underfunding schools - there is a high cost to the letting the middle class rot.

When you don't pay your workers enough to survive, they can't afford to buy the stuff you're selling. This hurts Main Street. Yes, your workers can go into terrible debt in order to keep consuming and supporting corporate profits, but this eventually ends in a credit meltdown as growing insolvency makes harder and harder to loan money into the economy.

Point is: the OP is urged to price the current policies. Maintaining an insolvent middle class is more expensive than you think. Underfunding education translates into a less qualified workforce, which also has a cost. Etc., etc

Now you want to bring up New Zealand only has around 4.5 million people compared to the U.S. 300 million?

No, Australia. Which thinks you're nuts. Like the rest of the world and most of the US. You proved to me that a union there wants even more. Shocking.

Q. So why hasn't Ryan and McConnell, self proclaimed fiscal conservatives, brought comprehensive immigration reform up for a vote?

A. Because it is a wedge issue and they can manipulate people like you to vote for them, in spite of the fact they do nothing but wag their lips.

Since 2010 the Republicans have been in control of the congressional agenda. What have they done in those six years to make you proud?

Amnesty............
As always, you make no sense.

How about this.........you dense. The Democrats have no problem with the illegals here because they profit off of them as well. That's part of their economy. It isn't necessary for reform. You have the laws and the tools.

How do the D's profit from illegals? Provide some evidence, and consider that many businessmen who own labor intensive businesses are R's - have your roof replaced, or have you house painted, you lawns cut or tree trimmed, concrete poured or other jobs required by labor, and in most regions of the US the workers will speak Spanish.

If they speak Spanish are they here illegally? Are there no Democrat businessmen that own labor intensive businesses?

It is not my job to check the citizenship papers of the people that paint my house, cut my lawn, etc., etc. That is the federal governments job to require e-verify by every employer and arrest those that are in violation of the law.

In my small town, there are several lawn care companies that are owned by legal immigrants who speak Spanish and English who may hire their fellow countrymen whether they are legal or not, and I guarantee you they don't vote Republican.

Response to each paragraph:

Q. Are there no Democrat businessmen that own labor intensive businesses?

A. "...consider that MANY businessmen who own labor intensive businesses are R's" as well as many business women. [learn to READ with Comprehension not bias];

I did not claim YOU needed to check green cards, owners of businesses should , but doing so is NOT Profitable;

You opinion sans evidence.
