Security clearances are good for so many years. As a contractor you can obtain a security clearance...that does not mean you have access to classified information. You still need a reason - a NEED TO KNOW.

Let's say you have a security clearance that is good for 6 years, you work for Lockheed Martin for 4 years. Your security clearance is still good for 2 more years, but again, that does not mean you have access to classified info.

That security clearance can be REVOKED, though. Let's say you break the law - your security clearance can - and should be - revoked.

Nobody knows what security documents former government employees have access to. Hell, congress can't even get certain documents from the freaking FBI but Bill Clinton's former "National Security Adviser" managed to steal documents from the National Archives. It's an important issue and former employees should be relieved of their security clearances as soon as they leave public service.

What is the point of it. If they get another job needing one, they can reapply for it.
I've had multiple jobs and have had to take a drug test and background check for each one. I didn't get to use my old test for a new job........
and a security clearance is way more important.....just go through the check if you need it again.
