Good - but boring.

They play old-style Big 10 football.

Woody Hayes = "3 things can happen when you throw the football - and 2 of them are bad."

When you get a lead like LSU got, the best thing to do is run the time off and pound the football. Especially when it worked so well.

PAC-12 did pretty good overall, UCLA, Oregon St., and Arizona pulled off upsets and the three ranked teams all won easily. Overall they went 9-3, with Washington losing to a ranked team and Colorado and Utah falling. WSU struggled against ESU, they are in bad shape. At least Washington should win the Apple Cup.

USC will never makeit to the NC game.

They are too thin andt hey struggled against Syracuse.

Yeah, the SEC teams tend to not focus on flashy offense. We have learned that rock solid defense wins. I guess the difference is which do you prefer, entertainment or winning?

Oddly, Bama's offense is about as balanced as you can ask for. McCarron is looking like a passing QB.

ND punked Bama . Florida im bowl games lol

ND punked Bama in bowl games a few decades ago. But they would have been ground into the turf over the last few years. ND is glad they haven't played the Crimson Tide in a while.

About 7-1 series record.............................

And the last one was when?? We've been through this before. ND was a powerhouse back in the day. So was Bama. The difference is that Bama is a powerhouse now too. Bama would crush ND this year. And would have last year. And the year before. And the year before. And the year before.... need I say more?

Not entirely accurate. Both GA and AL have passing games that score points for them. Ark did until their QB went down with a broken collarbone.

USC's golden boy completed 23 passes in 30 attempts for a total of 186 yards. Bama's QB completed 14 of 19 attempts for 219 yards.

OK State's gunslinger QB hit on 19 of 28 attempts for 252 yards. GA's QB was 22 of 35 for 242 yards. GA's QB had 3 TDs while OK State's had 2.

On the topic of boring, I question anyone's knowledge of football if they cannot see the value and brilliance of a quality defense.

Sure, you don't get the 60+ point games. But if you want those scores watch basketball.

The excitement is still there. It just takes another form. What some people want is the high-flying, high scoring event. But those long passes for a touchdown are no more exciting than the safety or cornerback making an amazing play on the ball to stop it from being anything but an incomplete pass. And the athletic ability of the defender is arguably greater, since the QB and the receiver know the plan and the defender has to figure it out on the run.

Also, the grind-it-out, smash mouth kinda football, combined with a brick wall defense, is what wins championships. You have only to look at the winners of the BCS Championships to see the proof of this.

The SEC (known for its defenses) has been to the BCS Championship game 8 times. The only time an SEC team lost was when it was beaten by another SEC team.

Mizzou defensive tackle Sheldon Richardson called it "Old Man football". But that old man football beat him and his team. And the team he played is not even the best in the conference.

Watch a top level defense play. The athletic ability, the rapid response and the way they adapt to different situations is hugely entertaining. It just takes a little more attention to see.

Defense wins in most sports.

Look out for the Seahawks in 2012...................................

The old adage "Offense wins games, Defense wins championships" has never been more true than in college football.

Case in point: The 1977 ND Fighting Irish.

Were already Sports Illustrateds pre-season pick for#1.

But they struggled early in the season and lost to Old Miss.

Then they put in Joe Montana at QB and never looked back.

TheD was ferocious. Steamrolled theest ofthe schedule/

Anihalated #1 Texas 38-10 in the Cotton Bowl ..................

Or the Crimson Tide in the '93 Sugar Bowl against Miami. Miami had Heisman winner Gino Torretta at QB, and all the swagger and bluster of a team used to scoring a lot. Their stable of receivers was supposed to be the best. They talked a lot of trash.

Bama's defense shut them down and humiliated them. We even lined up all 11 defenders on the line of scrimmage, daring them to go deep. It confused Torretta so much he threw an interception. It was one of 3 picks Bama made. The best play didn't even count as George Teague ran down Miami's speedster from behind and took the ball away from him. Lamar Thomas never lived that down. Funny that he was one of the loudest talkers before the game.

Bama whipped them 34-13.

The 1977 ND team had the best QB that has ever played the position.
