that was the entire russian gambit. get groups who hate each other already fighting. you kinda beat the shit out of the nail with the hammer on this one. the russians didn't likely change any minds, they reinforced what was already there (which is MUCH easier to do). if you stop trying to prove the other side right and just get into how people normally react, you'll see all they had to do was light a fuse and we'd do the rest. that's all they did but they lit a lot of fuses. we're making up the rest from there as it fits our own fears.
