Romney provides example of leadership by supporting, not condemning, America

It would help you guys if you actually read the embassy's statement, instead of relying on Fox to spoon feed you. Free speech isn't being criticized. The outrageous contents of the film are. "The Embassy of the United States in Cairo condemns the continuing efforts by misguided individuals to hurt the religious feelings of Muslims - as we condemn efforts to offend believers of all religions."

The film should be supported in all aspects because we do have freedom of speech in this country and it is a value that we support all over the world.

We cannot continue to be in fear of offending muslim religious feelings.

No need to spin. Any reasonable person is not going to have an issue with someone trying to prevent a riot.

You stop a riot by apologizing for free speech????? Your attempt at making this look good is pathetic.

Yet another strawman. No one apologized for free speech.

Yes, they certainly did, liar:

"We firmly reject the actions by those who abuse the universal right of free speech to hurt the religious beliefs of others."
Press Release | Embassy of the United States

"“The Embassy of the United States in Cairo condemns the continuing efforts by misguided individuals to hurt the religious feelings of Muslims – as we condemn efforts to offend believers of all religions,” it said in part.
Tuesday afternoon: The Cairo embassy stands by its original statement. “This morning’s condemnation (issued before protest began) still stands."

If you own your home and it's uninsured, you have the right to burn it down. That doesn't make it a wise decision to do so.

U.S. Embassy Condemns Religious Incitement

September 11, 2012

The Embassy of the United States in Cairo condemns the continuing efforts by misguided individuals to hurt the religious feelings of Muslims – as we condemn efforts to offend believers of all religions. Today, the 11th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on the United States, Americans are honoring our patriots and those who serve our nation as the fitting response to the enemies of democracy. Respect for religious beliefs is a cornerstone of American democracy. We firmly reject the actions by those who abuse the universal right of free speech to hurt the religious beliefs of others"

Press Release | Embassy of the United States

Not only is it a nauseating condemnation of freedom of speech and religious freedom...

It's also grammatically retarded. You don't "hurt religious beliefs" of others.

Reading comprehension is something you people sorely lack. That's not saying scrap free speech if it offends people (which is what "apologizing for free speech" would consist of), it's saying that some elements in our society use their rights in a way that makes them massive jerks. And guess what? That's absolutely true. If your mother walked up to a random person on the speech and called them something offensive, you would apologize for her actions. Would you be "apologizing for free speech"? No, you'd be apologizing for her being an ass.

"Hurt" and "offend" are synonyms. It's not the diction I would personally use, but there's nothing wrong with it.

In your mind, then, it would be okay if someone walked up to a stranger in the street and said something offensive, the person insulted has the right to kill 20 other people?

This should have been stamped out when Salman Rushdie had a fatwa. We let it grow, we placated and apologized and this is what we get.

That's an odd question, since nothing I have said even remotely supports that claim.

My reading comprehension is A-OK, thx.

What they said is what they said, and it was an apology that we "offended" violent and extremist Muslims via "abuse" of freedom of speech. It was issued as Islamic freaks were threatening our citizens at our embassy.

So, you somewhat understood what the statement said (only somewhat because you don't get the apology was to all of those offended, not just "freaks"), but then choose to mischaracterize it.

They're offended by freedom of speech and freedom of religion.

Too bad. They're freaks.

And anti-American, extremist freaks sympathize with them.

Read it, it's an apology. Plain and simple.

Seems pretty clear to me that it's an apology for free speech.

Wrong in every important respect.

It can be an apology FOR free speech, which it is, and not be a plea to scrap free speech. Admit it, you are wrong.

SNIP:
Barack Obama Treats ACT OF WAR in Benghazi Like like a Chicago Drive-By Shooting

Posted by Jim Hoft on Wednesday, September 12, 2012, 3:00 PM

Radical Islamists attacked the US Consulate in Benghazi with rocket propelled grenades and machine gun fire last night.
They murdered Ambassador Christopher Stevens.
Islamists dragged the dead body of US Ambassador Christopher Stevens from the embassy after he was murdered last night.

Al- Ahram

Senator Chuck Grassley (R-IA) told CSPAN today that the attack should be treated like an act of war.

Bruce Herschensohn, a foreign policy adviser to President Richard Nixon, also said the attacks on U.S. property in Egypt and Libya are acts of war.

So how did Obama handle this act of war?
He treated it like a Chicago drive-by shooting.

After the US Ambassador to Libya was slaughtered by Islamists in Benghazi Barack Obama held a press conference.
Obama promised to bring the killers to justice.
That was about it.
