Rick Scott's police state

Yesterday, our Toad in Chief vetoed all kinds of programs that were popular: vets programs, whooping cough vaccines for the poor, etc....not unexpected but I thought this was very telling. I'm pretty sure these people are seniors that were strong armed out of a public place (The Villages is a Senior Community, I believe)

Members of The Villages Democratic Club were barred from the budget signing by Scott staffers who said the outdoor event in The Villages town square was “private.” Other staffers and Republican operatives scoured the crowd and had Sumter County sheriff’s deputies remove those with anti-Scott signs or liberal-looking pins and buttons. They escorted more than a dozen people off the property.

Yeah, unfortunately this is what Scott has been doing.

He is giving the very public impression that he is the governor of the Florida Tea Party, not Florida.
Yes.

I am not sure that the sheriff's department acted properly in following his orders. If I lived in that county I think I'd file a lawsuit.

and this equals a police state how exactly?

from the link-

The biggest target of the veto pen: $305 million targeted for environmental land buys. Scott also cut $169 million in college projects and vetoed scores of hometown spending lawmakers earmarked for their districts.

Scott blamed “special interests” for the “shortsighted, frivolous, wasteful spending” — thereby irking some of his fellow Republicans who control the Legislature. Some accused him of hypocrisy, others of inflating his veto amount with financial gimmickry.

From wikipedia:

The term police state describes a state in which the government exercises rigid and repressive controls over the social, economic and political life of the population.

Removing people that have a legitimate right to be in a public area while THEIR governor addresses a piece of legislation presented to him by the voters of THEIR state is certainly exercising rigid and repressive control over the social, economic, and political life of the population.

police state? I felt pretty free in Key West over the last week.
Wasn't there a HUGE Gay festival there last week?

If I had the cash, I would buy Ravi a plane ticket to Damascus, so she could inform herself just what a "Police State" actually means.

One of the nice things about the last 30 years is that these things have become more and more rare, and the few that are left are a lot less nasty than they were in bygone days.

A guy sitting in an invitation only event and signing stuff is not the same thing at all. And the major sin of false equivalence is that it trivializes the real horrors of the thing being compared to.

Yeah, unfortunately this is what Scott has been doing.

He is giving the very public impression that he is the governor of the Florida Tea Party, not Florida.

And Obama gives every impression of being president of the American Communist Party, not America.

It's not a "public area." It was private property.

They can't handle dissent..

They woulda ate that guy alive, had the police not been there.

We've seen 'em threatening to kick people out over questions about medicare.. Blocking certain members of the media out of public news conferences.. And now this..

BTW, isn't Rick Scott the guy that wants to make drug tests madatory for anyone on food stamps (he has a stake in the company they would buy the testing kits from :|), but is against having a database of drug users (oxycottin and the like)?.. And now this bill, aimed at the poor of Florida?.. This guy worships at the altar of corporatism.. And Floridans don't like it; as evidenced by his dismal approval ratings.

Like Obama is doing with the federal government? Why don't you object to that?

Tough call. You can bet democrats don't have the balls. Would we be talking about budget cuts if republicans didn't win the majority in a stunning repudiation of tax and spend democrat policies? The vice president is even talking about a trillion dollar budget cut. Of course he is lying but the rhetoric indicates that chicken-sht democrats are on board with budget cuts as long as they can blame them on republicans.

Did you read the OP?

If so, I'm guessing that you are stupid.

LOL! Of course . . . that is, I read it. You're characterizing a political maneuver directed at reducing the size and power of the government as being something a police state would do. It's way over the top.

Cons didn't start talking about cuts until Obama was sworn in.

Give the police state stuff a rest lefties. They do that all the time in Washington in the rare instances where Obama actually comes down from the mountain and speaks to the people. Get some perspective, California is a police state. Everything is illegal including regular gas and now Jerry Brown is about to release 30,000 raving maniacs from prison.
