Several years ago, when the Republican Party looked at Hillary's initial strength as a possible nominee, they rightly concluded that they were going to lose the presidency.

So they did the rational thing and went into scandal mode. Remember: the Republican ecosystem - including politicians, corporations, think tanks, media - is extremely disciplined. They waged total war against her with the goal of placing her under a cloud of suspicion. It was and is pure McCarthyism. Even if none of their charges stick, the goal was/is to create a residue of mistrust inside the mind of potential voters. This is why talk radio, FOX and their army of internet trolls constantly throw up fake stories. They want to build a feeling of mistrust inside the associative cortex of the collective unconscious.

They do the same thing with their anti-government rhetoric. They constantly describe government as evil and incompetent so as to undermine its ability to tax and regulate. They never talk about the advanced industrial infrastructure upon which profit makers depend. They don't talk about the technology that flows from the Pentagon budget into the private sector, or the military stabilization of global trade routes and Exxon's oil fields - or the fact that the taxpayer is called upon to bail out the economic system. From the satellite system to the Hoover Dam to the massive subsidies that flow into aerospace technology (to name just one sector), the low-information voter knows nothing about the massive support government gives to the private sector. They only know what they are told by their feudal media lords: government is incompetent and can't be trusted ergo they have no authority to tax.

(Psst: profit makers want infrastructure, subsidies, bailouts, roads, bridges, dams, patent protection, energy grids and military stabilization of global markets ... BUT, they don't want to pay for it.
