Republicans set to just say no to jobs bill

why do we need this, why not use the 600 billion or so left in the stimulus? this is stupid, the fact we need it shows the first stimulus failed.

Some of it extends tax provisions in the stimulus. Most of it concerns tax breaks, not projects. All the righties have been screeching about lowering and/or tax breaks for small businesses, well here ya go. And you still screech.

we don't need another bill for that

you're falsely portraying what conservative want, use the current stimulus to do what this second stimulus is doing. i don't support the stimulus, but since we have it, we should utilize it to its best potental, not create another stimulus when the original one isn't even 1/3 spent....

If you would read the goddamned thing, you would know that except for the tax credit for new hires, the others are extensions of existing bills (not in the stimulus package).

God you people enjoy being dumbed down. For months now all we've heard is
DO SOMETHING ABOUT JOBS!!!
GIVE SMALL BUSINESSES A BREAK!!

So here's your fucking breaks and you're still whining.

This WILL come back to bite you idiot cons if it doesn't pass.

I read it and shouting about it doesn't change the fact that most of the bill goes to prop up state pork projects that are out of money.

If you actually ran a business, you'd understand the absurdity of the silly little "tax breaks", but you don't in either case.

But I've come to not expect any better from economic dilettantes.

The proposed bill which won the cloture vote yesterday, is all about helping small businesses. Why are Republicans already against it, with the exception of five brave ones?

S.A. 3310, the Hiring Incentives to Restore Employment Act

First of all---Scott Brown campaigned on Stimulus Bill Sr. did not create one single job--& he is correct. He then gets elected & the 1st thing he does is sign off on Stimulus Bill Jr. which will NOT WORK either.---:cuckoo::cuckoo:

Second of all--I "think" they are taking this money out of the TARP 1 loan pay--back for bailing out the banks--which is against the legislation as written. All money that was paid back from the banks was to go back into the U.S. treasury.

None of these economic morons understand that what is lacking in this country is DEMAND for goods & services. They can throw all the taxpayer money they want to at the problem--but until the American public get out there & start buying products & services NADA is going to happen to this economy---no matter how much of our money Government wastes.

calm down fido....

why do you keep running away from my question concerning why we need another stimulus? why is it you can't answer why we can't use the original stimulus to do what this unnecessary political bullshit game of a bill does?

this is partisan politics at its best. you have approx a few hundred BILLION dollars left to spend on a previous bill, create another bill for a few billion and then when people say, hey, we don't need another bill, you SCREAM and RANT nonsense that we want to hurt small businesses.....

you may fool some people, but you're aren't fooling the informed

I am a 30+year small business electrical contractor.

Now you really can't believe that our company is going to hire someone--so we can get a tax credit--so our new employee can sit around & twiddle his thumbs--do you?

Employers are not going to HIRE anyone until their businesse's actually need new employees. Common sense should dictate that to everyone. Again what is lacking here is DEMAND for goods & services & until the American public starts buying again-we will not see demand rise for goods & services.

I also believe they tried this with employers during the Carter administration. We had some employers that would lay off an employee one day--hire them back the next week so they could claim a tax credit. THIS PIECE of legislation has FRAUD written all over it.

I don't see much in this legislation that would produce jobs, however, I DO see an expansion of power for the IRS. 2010 elections can't get here quick enough.

What products? Those companies still producing products aren't hiring because the economy sucks; therefore unemployment remains high. Who will force businesses to start hiring? The government can't do that. It can only jump start businesses, then they're on their own again and hopefully will stop being so scared of taking risks. Where are the private investors? The entire economy basically now rests on the PRIVATE SECTOR getting its act together. In the meantime, stop demonizing the government for trying to provide a safety net for those caught up in the initial crunch.

If you don't believe what I'm saying, if you don't believe what the bill says, if you don't believe the shockwaves across the nation that REPUBLICAN LEADERSHIP is already dissing this before it's even debated, then I suggest you watch the gavel-to-gavel proceedings beginning tomorrow on C-Span2.

Well no shit. The government can't bang down your door and make you hire someone. It isn't the government's fault that there is no demand in the first place. But you continue to bash any effort to help people and businesses that have already suffered.

still running away from the questions i see....

(yawn)

conservative republicans are against this bill because it spends money we do not have. They expect my four grandchildren to pay for this. Cut business taxes and regulations and small businesses will do fine.

read the fucking bill!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

the legislation would: 1) reduce the cost to employers who hire new employees with a tax break for any employer who hires an employee who has been out of work for at least 60 days; 2) enhance the write-off that small businesses can take for purchases of certain equipment, freeing up capital to grow and hire workers; 3) expand the build america bonds model by making it available to existing tax credit bonds, which provides the bond holder with a federal tax credit in lieu of interest; and 4) extend the surface transportation programs (safetea-lu) through the end of the year.

The legislation is fully paid for.

You've suggested the impossible, asking the willfully ignorant to choose to read something which may challenge RW dogma. You might as well ask them to think. Never will happen.

To spur immediate job growth, the HIRE Act would provide businesses with an exemption from Social Security payroll taxes they owe for every worker hired in 2010 who has been unemployed for at least 60 days. The maximum value of this incentive is $6,621, which equals to 6.2 percent of wages paid in 2010 up to the FICA wage cap of $106,800. The longer that a business has a new qualified worker on its payroll, the greater the tax benefit. This would create an incentive for businesses to hire people now.
In addition, to promote long-term employment, there would be an additional $1,000 income tax credit for every new employee retained for 52 weeks.

Looks like......SOCIALISM

No wonder the Republicans are against it

In 2009, through the Recovery Act, Congress created a new financing tool, called Build America Bonds, which allows state and local governments to borrow at lower costs. Build America Bonds have proved to be extremely popular with state and local governments as they issued approximately $65 billion in these bonds in 2009.
The HIRE Act expands upon the highly successful Build America Bond model by making it available to existing Tax Credit Bonds, which provide the bond holder with a federal tax credit in lieu of interest. The HIRE Act would provide a mechanism for shifting the tax credit to the bond issuer, as is allowed under Build America Bonds. The legislation would allow issuers of existing Tax Credit Bonds to elect to treat bonds issued after the date of enactment as Build America Bonds, thus qualifying for the direct subsidy

OMG..........This is the same thing as a DEATH PANEL

To help small business entrepreneurs make the investments they need to grow and hire more workers, the HIRE Act would extend a provision in the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (P.L. 111-5) that allows small businesses to deduct up to $250,000 of the cost of qualifying property in the year it is purchased, rather than waiting to recover their costs through depreciation deductions over a number of years.
Without new legislation, the amount small businesses may expense would fall to approximately $133,000. This provision would extend expensing thresholds so small businesses would be able to write off up to $250,000 of certain capital expenditures (subject to a phase-out if expenditures exceed $800,000) in 2010 in lieu of depreciating those costs over time.

THE BASTARDS !

This is nothing less than a govenment takeover of small business

But wait, there is more... handouts.

Black farmers – possibly over 70,000 of them – will get cash payments and debt relief from the federal government totaling $1.25 billion, in reparation for alleged racial discrimination suffered under the Department of Agriculture’s loan programs, the Obama Administration has agreed.

The president announced the deal on Thursday, applauding Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack and Attorney General Eric Holder for “bringing these long-ignored claims of African American farmers to a rightful conclusion.”

Obama Giving Black Farmers $1.25B in Reparations

What's the incentive to hire when there's no work for the new employee, numbnuts?

Of course if there is NO WORK nobody is going to hire numbnuts

However, with many sectors of the economy coming back, this bill provides an incentive for small businesses to pull the trigger on new hires sooner than they may have
