Rand Paul’s message to Republican convention: Fuck the Pentagon

The two things I do agree with him on are the need to cut military spending and quit trying to police the entire damn world, and secondly, that the best fix to SS and Medicare is to raise the retirement age.

We do not "police the entire damn world," cutting military spending as if it were just the Endowment for the Arts or something is nihilistically stupid, and raising the retirement age alone will not "fix" Medicare and Social Security.

Bullshit! The Republicans do indeed want to police the world. Ron Paul is right.

No, that is hyperbolic nonsense spouted by juvenile, myopic idiots.

U.S. Military Deaths in Afghanistan More Than Doubled Under Obama

You realize you are asking him to be honest. It won't happen.

Well, Rand Paul didn't quite exactly say "Fuck", that's my emphasis but he may as well as of used that word because of how the the right-wing caters to and dangerously kisses ass when it comes to the military. Look for Paul to get roundly booed by the Republican "Military Industrial Complex" crowd at the convention if he gets to speak that is.

Fiscal-responsibility does not apply to our armed-forces according to the Republicans.

What is your nationality?

I think it's slav.

he did call the repubs out and the delegates were fired up, the opposite of a Romney crowd ;) He said the repub establishment "allowed" him to speak for an entire hour.

It's a big tent we're in.

Yep republicans have a lot more dissadent voices than the lockstep, top down commiecrats.

And if you even try to gage this board, there are maybe 1 or 2 liberals who dare to speak their mind, the rest do whatever the democrats tell them to do. Bash rich people, check, ignore wealthy democrats, check.

Yeah, big tent. They allow conservatives, ultra conservatives, xenophobes, gun nuts, birthers, willing wage slaves, racists, and corporatists. Paul is the only one of them worth a damn.

Raising the retirement age for SS and Medicare to 70 and eventually 71 would change things drastically. Payouts would be decreased between 30% to 40% and with people having to work longer, they would be paying in longer also which would increase revenues. Total savings would be somewhere around 40%, but then there would be some extra payouts as some people would be forced into accepting disability as early retirement. I realize there are some who physically could not work to 70 or 71. Even with that, the overall savings should be in the 30% range, and the biggest savings would come in Medicare as most people would have to find their own coverage for a few extra years. The best selling point to going this route is that once a person does retire, they would still receive full benefits rather than plans that would force seniors to pay a percentage all the way until their death. The problem with those type plans is that so many do not have any retirement savings and rely completely on SS and Medicare.

With the advent of the Tea Party... you may add rednecks. racists, obstructionists, anarchists and assassins to that big tent.

Rand Paul touched the sacred cow...the military. HOWEVER.......as the right wing extremism pushes forward into even crazier ideas, dont think for a moment that the military is safe.

Remember folks, there was a time when the GOP was absolutely supportive of cops and firemen. They, too, were seen as our domestic men in uniform, handling domestic threats to our safety.

Then the Tea Party came around. And politicians, along with voters, got drunk on the tea. They started fucking with cops and firemen. Sometimes out of financial necessity. But more and more....simply out of ideology.

They've evolved into hating them all....government employees. They hate ALL government employees equally. A few on USMB have been honest and simply said that cops, firemen and teachers should "go fuck off".

Well....military folks, YOU TOO are government employees. And it will not be long until the TP turns on you all. Think it can't happen? Yeah, thats what the cops and firemen thought too.

Even in the best case (which you know would NOT be the reality) it would only postpone the inevitable. The retirement age will eventually be raised, but that really has nothing to do with addressing the inherent flaws that we must correct now.

Sure it does, But the Left seems to think we can only Cut defense and nothing else. Defense is not what we spend the most money on, and Defense is not anywhere near the Long Term Debt Problem that MC and SS represent.

Not to mention that a Huge % of Defense spending is actually on Goods from US companies in the Defense industry that employ millions. Or direct paychecks to our Men and Woman in Uniform. So Cutting it does not come with out Economic Costs.

Who was it the other day that posted that we spend more than the rest of the world Combined on Defense? It may have been true in the past, But today we spend more than the next 21 Nations combined.

we need to balance things, make cuts everywhere, But Ron Paul, and Obama's way, of simply Gutting defense is not the Answer, and is extremely short sited.

IMO

They had two years of being completely in control did they not?

Why didn't any of the democrats move on it? Honest question. And frankly we can ask this about so many issues.

They had it all. Why is anyone whining now because they had it all?

Here's a Rachel Maddow, MSNBC, going over the first two years of the Obama administration. You can skip the first 2:29 minutes to get right to the start of the review.
