Hurricane Maria’s track has shifted slightly and now the U.S. Virgin islands are bracing for a direct hit.

Our favorite place is on the island of Vieques. It's largely unspoiled although the US left a LOT unexplored ordnance there. Half of the island is closed off to human use which was the basic cause of the end of their agriculture and manufacturing.

The island has more horses than people. They're everywhere. Last time we were there, we found one hit by a car and called the horse patrol who cam immediately. The worst is that many horses are killed by the ordnance we left there.

We've gotten to know the owners of the place where we always stay. Google Hector's By The Sea - it's beautiful. They have rescued horses and I have videos of us playing with an orphan foal who was adopted by a mare and her yearling foal. When he found the found, his dam was nearby, still alive but severely hurt by exploding ordnance. Other videos - a cat they adopted, stretched out on the mare's back and swatting at the tiny goal who was trying to stand up tall enough to reshape him.

We've also gotten to know the driver we always hire as well as his family. She has prepared for us some of the best food ever and we always arrive with a bottle of wine.

Anyway, we are worried for them and all the others who are struggling to survive this.

Migrants have been staying in the Puythouck area since an official camp of wooden shelters housing some 1,500 migrants burned to the ground in April.
