New Study: Hurricane Maria Killed 75 Times More Puerto Ricans Than the Government Has Admitted

https://www.motherjo...ernment-claims/

(Mother Jones) A new study published Tuesday estimates that Hurricane Maria killed over 5,000 people after striking Puerto Rico last September. That’s more than 75 times higher than the island’s previous official count, and if widely accepted would cement the storm as one of the most deadly natural disasters to ever affect US citizens.

This and this alone is enough for Trump to be considered a monster in the history books and a failed leader. George w Bush was attacked for what he did with Katrina but at least he tried and sent the aid that was needed for the people of the Gulf coast. What Trump did with Puerto Rico is evil as he allowed American citizens to suffer and die without a thought.

My friends. We must demand that our leaders have humanity. This is simply unacceptable and even evil within my mind.

This study came up with these mortalities as "hurricane related deaths". If someone had a heart attack two weeks after the hurricane and couldn't get medical care quickly enough because of transportation difficulties that death would be "hurricane RELATED".

Bullshit.

I don't get it.

First, I don't trust Mother Jones anyway.

But second, so a hurricane killed people. What would you have any president do? It's not the job of the president to somehow stop gale force winds.

By the way, Puerto Rico has it's own government. The big problem there was that the government spent itself into oblivion, and was broke.

The reason their power grid, for example, was so devastated is because the government run utilities was broke. This is one of the problems with left-wing ideology. They hate profits, but without profits, how does a company invest in infrastructure to say...... withstand a hurricane?

Walmart, when Hurricane Katrina was coming, was moving goods to safe location inside the storm zone, preparing water tight containers and elevated warehouses. How can they do that? Because they are profitable.

When you run a Utility so that it doesn't 'gouge the poor' you end up with a broke system. If you don't make a profit, you can't invest. This is why Venezuela is sitting on one of the largest known oil reserves in the world, and yet their state run oil company is going broke. You don't have profits, so you can't invest.

Puerto Rico imploded because they did not run their country on Capitalist principals, that work every single time they are tried in human history. I promise you, that if the utility company in PR, had been operating on a for-profit basis, they would have power restored in a fraction of the time. Absolutely no doubt in my mind.

When Hurricane Irma hit Florida, I happen to be traveling south, and we say literally dozens of AEP trucks way down south, far outside AEP's area of operation.

What were they doing? The power companies in Florida rented dozens of AEP service teams and trucks, to head south and restore power, knowing Irma was going to hit. 2 days before the storm hit, all these people and trucks were moving down into position to help

How could they afford to do this? Because they were not broke, and running on a Capitalist profit-based system. Puerto Rico is not. Their power company was broke.

So when you say that "leaders have humanity", I think that's the wrong goal. It wasn't our leaders who killed those people. It was socialism.

Additionally, PR keeps acting like it's up to us to determine their future. No. It's their job to determine their future. If they want to be a state, they have the power to do that. If they don't, then stop complaining that we are not treating them like a state, when they are not a state.

By the way... it's not our leaders job to fix any of our lives. It's your job to fix your life.

Well, they were going to die sometime, anyway. The President knows these things and acts accordingly.

Oh, shut up.

You!

He didn't send the aid and he fucked around. YOu can bet your sweet ass that if this was Obama that you'd be bitching for his impeachment over this.
You almost sound like someone who thinks people are more important than money and power. Are you sure you're in the right place, here?

I agree. Puerto Rico had DECADES to bury their power lines and better protect their power grid and they did NOTHING, despite nearly bankrupting their government. I blame Obama. Why didn't he tell Puerto Rico to stop spending money on useless, government bureaucrats and instead spend it on protecting their power source?

So letting people die is sanity to you? You have no morality. What a soulless monster.
Have you ever been in a hurricane?

I was in a hurricane that hit Florida several years ago.

My family and I had no power and utilities for a week. No gas for the car and all the stores had damage and were closed. Everyone was in survival mode. FEMA and the National guard were doing the best they could. But the roads were washed out and bridges destroyed.

People who haven't been in a post hurricane situation, think the authorities can just wave a magic wand and everything is instantly back to normal.

It took many weeks before people's lives were back on track.

To blame the government / president is retarded. ..... :cuckoo:

In the United States of Trump, little brown people don't matter. So a bunch of people dying in Puerto Rico because of a very inadequate response on Trump's part is nothing to worry about. What we need to worry about is that fact that a bunch of them might come over here to the lower 48. Remember, they are Americans in name only, after all, they are brown and speak Spanish. AINO's, kind of like RINO's. LOL
