Prohibition was a hoax

People need to examine effects and benefits rather than allow people to shape your view of history for their own means.

In the olden days, America was having an epidemic of drunkenness. There was usually more than one brewery per town, and knuckleheads were spending all their money on booze while their families were living dirt poor.

Christian women's organizations did the right thing and tried to take positive action.

The movement was ignored but it was growing.

One day member of the corrupt government said , "You know what? YOU RIGHT!" , "let's pass an amendment to ban commercial sales of alcohol"

Around 10% of the large breweries who were in on the conspiracy temporarily switched to selling other things, while thousands of breweries closed their doors.

You have to ask yourself how private citizens can find "illegal" places to buy contraband but the police can't.

After Prohibition was overturned, the breweries who were left now held a near monopoly and had to scramble to become nation-wide distributers.

The proof that Prohibition was a hoax is in the fact that "illegal" booze was being delivered to the Capitol building while it was in effect.

... now we have the pro-drug sales propagandists referring to "Prohibition" as a policy that doesn't work

Bitch! Tell that to Tennessee people's ancestors whose ancestors got shot by revenuers.

STFU!

Uncle Ferd says, "Yeah...

... Grampa, when he was alive,

... could always get a bottle o' 'shine'...

... when he wanted one."

Wolf strike... you very seriously need to do a little reading about prohibition before making silly posts like this..
Saying it's a hoax just makes you seem ignorant.

The eighteenth amendment was very real, unfortunately, and altered the nature of the Constitution, much like the sixteenth amendment did. No longer did the Constitution merely regulate the government; it now regulated the people.

The Progressive Era and the end of American history: gotta love it.

Hubby used to make this apple cinnamon shine that was pretty lip smackin

The "Temperance Movement" was under way waaaay before the Progressive Era. By the time the Amendment was passed it had been around for a century.

OP doesn't know the facts. During Prohibition you could get alcohol with a doctor's note and you could have a certain amount of it for religious reasons. I had to take whole semester class about nothing but Prohibition.

Here's the book we used for my course, it is actually a pretty good read, written more like a story than a text book.
