Post Positive things about Democrats here

Barbara Jordan.
JFK.
RFK.
Harry Truman.
FDR.
Sen. Scoop Jackson.

All great folks. Damn good Democrats.
The Republican Party would do well to remember their legacies and adopt their better ideas (something many of us are already doing)

The dem party in the JFK era bears no resemblance to the party of today. The republicans have kept the basic values of the country that have made it great that dems used to share with us. The dem party of today are anti american socialists, adopting the ideas they have now is a bad idea. Wouldn't you agree?

For most of today's dems, I must agree with you. notice on my list not one of those blessed souls is still alive today to carry the torch of the real democrat party, back when it actually mattered and was an integral part of our society.

I have been blessed to have learned about barbara jordan and scoop jackson recently.

Which ideas should we adopt? What are you talking about exactly?

So, what is the "real Democratic Party? Who is to say that it is or ever was the party of JFK?

Here are few more Dems, all infamous for being segregationist...

George Wallace
Lester Maddox
Ernest Hollings
Robert Byrd

"The first advice I am going to give my successor is to watch the generals and to avoid feeling that just because they were military men their opinions on military matters were worth a damn." -John F. Kennedy.

Uh, so should Howard Dean hate his brother? Once again, you have no point other than Howard Dean's brother opposed the Vietnam war. But I guess that does totally clash with your warhawk mentality.

"If you don't love America then you can just get out." This is a lovely philosophy. But I wonder, can it hold any water outside of a NASCAR arena?

well I suppose it is better than being called a "ChickenHawk"....as for JFK...lol
JFK had a dry sense of humor about such things...he was a Lt.Cmdr in the Navy...ya think he would put down Naval Officers?...and as for Howard 'scream' Dean he supported his brother who was killed by the VC on a fishing expedition in the Delta Area..VN...as a Independent Journalist trying to support the VC...they answered him with a AK47...one would think ol' Howard would support any war that attacked terrorists...but No he just rants and raves as does ol' Cindy! :2guns:

*Sigh* I was hoping you were going to say something positive about them.

I love how they care about the environment and will not side with industry.

I love how they care about helping the poor. I know you all don't like this aspect, but I must say something about it. My husband's father walked out on him, his mother, and his sister. They were living in a nice house in very nice town outside of Hartford, CT. His mother was a stay-at-home mom (back then, it was more popular). The bank foreclosed on the house and they had to move to a one-bedroom apartment, where my husband slept on a couch in the living room. The government helped them until his mother got back on her feet.

This is the thing that pisses me off the most about liberals. They seem to think they have the market cornered on being nice to people. I have news for you: That is bullshit.

What ProudDem posted here is what government assistance was suppose to be. Assistance. Once they got back on their feet, I am assuming they made it fine on their own. Personally, I don't have a problem with that, and I don't think the majority of people, no matter their ideology or party alliance, have a problem with it. What I do have a problem with is people that sit on their ass and wait for that government check to come in, and the Democrats who fight tooth and nail to allow them to sit on their ass and wait for the check.

Conservatives care about people, just the same as anyone else. The difference is, we care about people having some pride in themselves and making it on their own. We want to teach the man to fish and feed him for a lifetime, rather than giving the man a fish to feed him for a day.

By the way, the situation posted by ProudDem sounds really familiar. Oh, of course. It sounds like the situation I was born into. And you know what? My mother never took one red cent from the government.

We have tons of solutions, but Republicans never hear any of them because they dismiss us before what we say can even be considered.

Don't believe me? Name an issue.

Ok. How about social security.

Post your idea if you want, but what I want to see is an idea from an elected official, then compare that to the number of officials who have done nothing but bitch and complain with the ideas President Bush as come up with.

JFK ..... a pill popping adulterer that rode into office on daddy's money and coat tails....

but so was 'Elvis'...however that did not diminish his popularity or music...and so was Billy 'Bob' Clinton...however it did diminish his popularity...as for the "coat Tails" I would venture to say this applies to most in political office today...with the immense cost and all...lol :cof:

This thread is incredible only because I think I counted 1 post that was positive and wasn't from a self-proclaimed liberal.

It would be nice if, for instance, when talking about past democrats who better espoused the true values of a democrat, one would delve into what those issues are (or were).

It's so easy to pick apart democrats today, we all get that. Isn't there anything positive to say, even if it's 30+ years removed?

You just complained, but didn't exactly say anything positive yourself. :)

Ok...I'll list some nice things about Dems.

1) They are idealists.

2) They genuinely want the world to be a happy, peaceful place for everyone.

How's that?
