The dope we put into the Oval Office is now publicly playing a national game of "chicken":
--President Barack Obama declared on Monday there would be no deal on raising the government's debt limit if Republicans won't compromise, and he said he would not sign a short-term extension raising the stakes on volatile negotiations with the clock ticking toward an Aug. 2 deadline.
"I don't see a path to a deal if they don't budge. Period," the president said in a challenge to his political opponents, accusing Republicans of having a "my way or the highway" posture.
Asked whether or not he would veto legislation temporarily increasing the debt ceiling, the president said: "I will not sign a 30-day, or 60-day, or 90-day extension."

EXCELLENT!
I say let's play chicken with Dumbo. He criticized politicians who say the debt ceiling doesn't need to be raised. "It's irresponsible. They know better," Obama said.
Wrong. What's irresponsible is trying to hold your breath till your face turns blue in order to get the surprisingly responsible people to cave in to your idiocy, Mr. President.
Isn't it amazing that when the Republicans say they won't budge on tax increases, they are supposedly the good guys, but when Obama says he won't budge if there are no tax increases, he is the bad guy. It's fucking laughable how you can only see this from your own perspective.
Obama put out a plan that included twice as much in spending cuts than the Repukes, with a stipulation for a small increase in taxes. The Repukes refuse to negotiate on anything. It truly is making me sick how they are playing this political game. I truly hope it backfires on them next year.
Republicans tell us how we have to make massive cuts in spending, but then when they have the opportunity to actually do so, they back out. I have never in my life seen a party play politics to a level of bringing this country to a standstill. Democrats better jump on this and make it clear who is stopping any progress. At this point it has become obvious that the Republicans will do whatever they can to bring the government down so they can blame it on the Dems. They are not interested in reducing spending, and they most certainly are not interested in reducing the deficit to manageable levels.
Ronald Reagan is rolling in his grave I'm sure.
