Pontificating President says no deal; GOP must "budge."

The dope we put into the Oval Office is now publicly playing a national game of "chicken":

President Barack Obama declared on Monday there would be no deal on raising the government's debt limit if Republicans won't compromise, and he said he would not sign a short-term extension — raising the stakes on volatile negotiations with the clock ticking toward an Aug. 2 deadline.

"I don't see a path to a deal if they don't budge. Period," the president said in a challenge to his political opponents, accusing Republicans of having a "my way or the highway" posture.

Asked whether or not he would veto legislation temporarily increasing the debt ceiling, the president said: "I will not sign a 30-day, or 60-day, or 90-day extension."

EXCELLENT!

I say let's play chicken with Dumbo.
He criticized politicians who say the debt ceiling doesn't need to be raised. "It's irresponsible. They know better," Obama said.

Wrong. What's irresponsible is trying to hold your breath till your face turns blue in order to get the surprisingly responsible people to cave in to your idiocy, Mr. President.

Isn't it amazing that when the Republicans say they won't budge on tax increases, they are supposedly the good guys, but when Obama says he won't budge if there are no tax increases, he is the bad guy. It's fucking laughable how you can only see this from your own perspective.

Obama put out a plan that included twice as much in spending cuts than the Repukes, with a stipulation for a small increase in taxes. The Repukes refuse to negotiate on anything. It truly is making me sick how they are playing this political game. I truly hope it backfires on them next year.

Republicans tell us how we have to make massive cuts in spending, but then when they have the opportunity to actually do so, they back out. I have never in my life seen a party play politics to a level of bringing this country to a standstill. Democrats better jump on this and make it clear who is stopping any progress. At this point it has become obvious that the Republicans will do whatever they can to bring the government down so they can blame it on the Dems. They are not interested in reducing spending, and they most certainly are not interested in reducing the deficit to manageable levels.

Ronald Reagan is rolling in his grave I'm sure.

No. It's not amazing.

The thing that got us into this mess was the undo willingness of this Government to SPEND SPEND SPEND.

Granting these addicts a higher debt limit or access (via more taxation) to MORE money is merely enabling their addiction.

Taking a principled STAND against the very idiocy that took us to the very edge of the crumbling precipice is the ONLY responsible position.

There is nothing to compromise.

A fucking heroin addict going through withdrawals might squeal like a stuck pig for another fix, but it's not actually a proper thing for someone to "take sympathy on the poor bastard's suffering" by giving him more of the very poison to which he is addicted.

What part of the fact that our debt crisis is REAL and puts us in dire peril is it hardest for some of you jokers to GET?

As a percentage of GDP, tax revenue is down nearly 50% since 2000. That is a revenue problem, not a spending problem. While revenue is down 50%, spending is up approximately 43%. That is a spending problem. However, approximately 40% of that is an increase in unfunded military spending for wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, which again reverts to a revenue problem. In the end, revenue is the far bigger problem. Spending is up, but if you take away the excess military spending, then spending only accounts for around 12% of the problem.

This is basic math, and all you want to do is talk about cutting spending by 50%. You are out of your minds.

Revenue is down because of the recession, whcih allegedly ended some time ago. Obama's policies are responsible for the continuing low revenue.
Spending as a percentage of GDP (the only meaningful figure) is higher now than it has ever been in peacetime. That is also Obama and the Democrats' fault.
Both things are related to spending. That's where the problem is. The current structure has produced much more revenue when the economy was actually growing. The tax structure isn't the problem.

He also claimed the public didn't and shouldn't care about this issue....

YouTube - ‪Obama says public shouldn't care about spending‬‏

Isn't that amazing?

What a tool.

It's almost unimaginable that we collectively permitted that imbecile to be our elected leader.

Sad.
Us on the right warned everyone. If a dimwit still supports this fool they are idiotsw. you know who you are out there, prove your idiocy, speak up!!!

Spending as a percentage of GDP (the only meaningful figure) is higher now than it has ever been in peacetime. That is also Obama and the Democrats' fault.

You do know that that is due to the lower than normal GDP right? I mean, after all, if GDP goes down and spending stays constant, the percentage will go up. That's not a spending problem then, that's a GDP problem.

Or more specifically, a jobs problem, but you guys don't want to talk about that.

Sure we do.

Freeing up capitalism creates jobs.

Heavy taxation on wealth producers impedes capitalism's force and thus undermines job production.

I might be willing to agree with you if the GOP had compromised on anything, ever, at any point. They haven't. In fact, they picked up their toys and stormed out when someone said something about their toy jets.

Obama is being tough because tough is what we need right now.
Still talking out your a@@ ! Obamaturd is so narcissistic that he believes he is doing what the American people want. He is doing wwhat his commie handlers are doing.

The percentage will change based on a) higher/lower GDP, b) higher/lower levels of spending, c) both.
Obama's policies have increased spending and reduced GDP. A double fail!

This is entirely and exclusively a spending problem.

Spending is what got us here. Cutting spending and the government's fucking addiction to spending is the route back out.

It is absolutely NOT a "revenue" problem.

Never was and never will be.

Those of you who make the claim that it is a revenue problem are out of your minds.

We don't need myths and unfounded faith. We need proven methods that work.

This ^ from the likes of YOU. LOL.

That's rich.

You're right, though. Capitalism has never created any jobs. And heavy taxation doesn't take money out of the capitalist market economy where it could be used to produce wealth and foster job creation.

Silly us for thinking differently than you.

NO! Government gets enough. There is no reason other than the need to look good politically for Obama to be digging in his heels on taxes.
He HAS to appease his political base. To do that, he MUST come away with a tax increase.
The tax increase that is being proposed is cosmetic. It will do NOTHING to reduce debt or increase revenue.
The country is not being brought to a standstill.
You just said so yourself...."Democrats better jump on this and make it clear who is stopping any progress".....That right there says it all. This tax increase is to make the democrats look good. It does nothing else. Forget it.

"They are not interested in reducing spending, and they most certainly are not interested in reducing the deficit to manageable levels. "
HUH?!!! NIce try. That is a big stinky dog pile and you know it. Stop making up bullshit.
This negotiation is taking place because the GOP has the majority in the US House and this must go through that body.
The reason why we're in this mess is before the first business day in January, 2011 the democrats had the majority in BOTH houses of Congress.
You people on the Left can't stand it because the free ride is over.
Since Jan 20, 2009 , the democrats could have done anything they wanted. They couldn't get a thing done except that stupid Obamacare because everything the democrats wanted, they needed political cover from the GOP....They won't get it this time either.
Obama and the democrats are incensed over the fact that someone is telling them they can no longer spend money as they see fit. They have been shown the facts. That's why they are agreeing to $4trillion in cuts. Obama wants to coerce a tax increase out of the GOP in order to save face.

They were elected to reduce the deficit and reduce taxes. The President is the one refusing to compromise.

No, they were elected to fix the job situation. Something they haven't even touched yet.
No, they were elected to keep the socialist obamaturd in check.

No, they were elected to get something done in Washington and get the economy going.

Honestly, am I the only one who reads exit polls?

Polls are for the uninformed.
Government creates jobs by getting the hell out of the way of private enterprise.
Democrats think jobs are created as a result of massive government spending. They are dead wrong.

yes becasue we can tax all of the 'toy' jets at 90% and it would amount to how much? everytime he uses that phrase he sounds like a jackass.

Why do you guys always respond like that? It's so cowardly and dishonest. If we mention a possible source of tax revenue, you always take it to an extreme of "Well, even if we tax that source 90% or 100% ... " Are you seriously that anti-anything-Democrats-say that you refuse to acknowledge that they are talking about MULTIPLE sources so that the increases in any one source would be minimal?

We don't NEED NO NEW SOURCE of REVENUE. we need the friggen Obama and ALL CONGRESSCRITTERS who are calling for raising TAXES on ANYBODY at this time..... TO be fucking fired..good gawd, you classwarfare people make me sick.
