POLL: The GOP and "Socialism"

How long before the Right realizes the term "socialism" no longer scares people?

Receiving what one pays in back is not socialism.
Popular to some. Others with any financial investing knowledge, not so much.
I agree completely, but ss is socialist only to those that didn’t pay into it. We that worked, paid for it, and our payments are based on what we were forced to pay into it.
Social security is not socialism. It is our own money we are forced to pay in, rather than invest and make more for ourselves.
How many of those old white conservatives use social security? We already have socialist programs, and they do what they're supposed to. We have to stop using the word socialism. People are too dumb to get over the stigma that has been attached to it by the propaganda machine. It's a buzzword that automatically shuts down the conversation. They hear it and their brains turn off.

It's a socialist program. Socialist programs are the only thing the left is trying to see implemented.

Right, well, either way it's a successful and popular socialist program. Same goes for medicaid/medicare. There are ideas and elements of socialism that can happily coexist with our capitalism and make things better for everybody.

Would you say the constant use of the term is mostly to fire up the base?

Of course it is. Most people are too dumb to navigate politics without buzzwords that help them see everything in black and white. The world is too confusing in color.

Yep. I would think that a reasonable person would understand that this all lies along a continuum, that you're not either "socialist" or "not socialist". But it sure does seem like there are a lot of people who can't seem to grasp that.
.

Well if you honestly believe that, it's time to bring forth that element of socialism that you believe benefits everyone.

Because I got news for you, it probably only benefits you and in place of "everybody" you have substituted yourself.

Don't try to tell other people what benefits them. That's incredibly condescending. I would never claim that capitalism benefits everyone, it doesn't. It does make 99.9% of the country a lot richer quick though. That's just an empirical observation.

Yeah. It's not a good sign when "nuance" is considered a negative.

Our conservative posters continue to start thread after thread pertaining to "socialism". And even though their exact definitions are fairly unclear, it's obvious they think that screaming SOCIALISM is, by itself, enough to win a debate.

As most of us can see, more and more people are becoming perfectly comfortable with the word - in part, no doubt, because the Right has completely over-used and diluted it.

How long before the Right realizes the term "socialism" no longer scares people?

"Not in this lifetime, pal."

If there is a more unifying rallying call for conservatives against the American Left, politically speaking not culturally, I challenge you to find it. Once again, so-called elite American liberal intellectualism gets the American Left into water so hot it boils, socially and academically. I will never understand the postmodernist American Left's failed philosophical political strategy of attempting to "think away" the bad or downright evil from a downright evil social proposition. You cannot rewrite history, just as you cannot lie to and successfully fool tens of millions of Americans with on demand access to online historical information.

Those intellectual Leftists who lie to the American people about what socialism really is might can get away with announcing publicly American popular support for it, but you all wannabe Marxist piggy banks will break most shatteringly at the polls. Thing is, you keep trying, historically, to wrap the same gift of utter shit in a different, more attractive wrapping replete with a more attractive ribbon. Shame.

Mister Mystery Guest Marxist,

If you want to find something every last patriotic American will pick up the sword to put back in its historical place, join the neo-push for American socialism. The sound of the movement pop-splattering under mechanized treads will be heard nationwide. Proceed. Please.
Would you say the constant use of the term is mostly to fire up the base?

I admit - I don't really understand partisan politics and this is one point that I often miss. If the point is to fire up the base without caring much about what the rest think, I suppose I can see that. That's pretty much what Trump's presidency is about, anyway.
.

Depends which base we're discussing--Right or Left. Seems the Left has dug deep in the radical philosophical bag to find any alternative platform to run against President Trump and the Right, and then pickup the pieces after hypothetical victories. Running socialism will get the Left's shiny new-old ship sunk.

When you take away the incentive for people to improve themselves, learn marketable skills, and want to work to attain things then the end is near. Socialism/Communism is against human nature, and always evolves in a Totalitarian Regime where only the few, elites benefit.

Look dude, social security is a socialist program that was implemented by the left. Whether or not you pay into it doesn't change the fact that it is a socialist program.

It makes it so much easier to distinguish between the two major political parties when the crazy democrat left finally quits the smoke and mirrors and comes out of the socialist political closet. Live with it and embrace it while you can lefties because the democrat party ain't likely to be around much longer at this rate.

If you think the Democrats are socialist you're fucking nuts. The Democrats would be right wing in most European countries.
You are delusional.

Not in this lifetime. Anyone who is not scared by the concepts of Socialism deserves the reward of a double tap to the back of the head.

It’s also a massive condemnation of our education system and our Culture/Society. It’s also proof we need to END IMMIGRATION, legal or not.

Don't try to tell other people what benefits them. That's incredibly condescending.
Isn't that what Trump and his supporters are doing right now?

He's playing to his base like no President before him. Surely he and they must think they know what's best for the rest of us.
.

And where the fck is he saying that his policies are meant to benefit say... the illegals? Obviously they aren't... the policies punish those people harshly. Exactly as designed.

No benefits for those wanting to illegally immigrate.

So no, you are plain wrong.

But it sure does seem like there are a lot of people who can't seem to grasp that.

In the last few years I've really started to grasp just how profoundly stupid most people are. The situation is very dire.

It applies to both ends. It seems to me that "firing up the base" is the Number One goal of politicians at this point. Get the donations. Get the volunteers. Get the vote out.

The vast middle is being completely ignored right now by both ends.

Poll Pot...when it is never too late to say you are sorry...

You leave out the part where the US and North Vietnam destabilized Cambodia/Kampuchea/the Khmer Republic to the point where Pol Pot could take over to start with. Funny how you guys leave that part out.

Pol Pot was an engineering student in Paris when he was taught Marxist philosophy. The French did this stuff.

And Pol's right hand man, a student of postmodernism at the Sorbonne, returned home and decided to move most everyone from the city to the country, and purge the rest. The anti-American idiots running for, calling for American socialism are overt, uncaring, anti-Constitution liars.

Nowhere did I say this was about illegals.

Yikes.

Also I note that instead of giving the "obvious" example of socialism that benefits everyone, you didn't do so. That's because such a thing doesn't exist so quit pretending it does. No policy benefits everyone. Pure projection you got going there.

Correct, no policy benefits everyone.

Once again, that's not my point.

Trump's policies overwhelmingly benefit his base. Maybe not everyone, but definitely the overwhelming majority. I don't see what this deflection has to do with my point.

And now you are saying no policy benefits everyone?

Wah??

Actually, they are just stupid.
