Poll shows Americans oppose entitlement cuts to deal with debt problem

Let's just stop the niceties here.why don't the left here on this board just step up and be honest and just let it out.The rich should just hand over all their wealth to government and we can be done with it.After all the Left knows how to spend everyone else's money.

Those evil rich are already paying the bulk of the taxes in this country.aparently that doesn't seem to be enough.

I think the point is that for the most part, Americans want other people to pay to reduce the deficit. They don't want to be taxed and they don't want their benefits nor the military cut.

Until Americans begin to realize that we must all feel the pain in some manner, this problem is not going to be solved.

Yea, no dog in the hunt there.

I bet you won't argue with this poll.

"Yea, no dog in the hunt there." Right?

Ideologues, what a crazy bunch they are.

I'm not an 'ideologue'.... nor do I put much value to polls.

Yet describing a Marist poll your comment was,,,,"Yea, no dog in the hunt there." Hmmmm.

The numbers are consistent with most other national polls.

Knowing how much Ryan's plan would hurt the Middle Class in the later years, I would care to bet that a huge majority of Americans wouldn't like it one bit. And Tea Party members are in general Middle Class Americans. This isn't rocket science.

I can see it now, are now or ever been a member of a Tea Party.

Anyone can say, YES.

good grief, remember folks when we were told the Tea Party was irrelevant.

I see the Tea Party as an organization is who against spending that will cause us financial ruin, in no time, and they have the guts to to say it. When we are out of money, no one will be getting anything promised to them.

Is this an example of leftie logic? Nobody wants to cut Medicare but Obama's mess of a health care law already did. Leftie logic says a lobotomy is a cure for a hangnail. Lets cut the easy stuff first like the taxpayer funded killing of unborn humans. We can cut NOAA's lavish budget without encouraging tsunami destruction too..

The Tea Party movement is supposed to be the engine driving Republicans' push for sharp cuts to spending and reform entitlements. Representative Paul Ryan's 2012 budget, which passed the House last week, phases out Medicare for people under 55 and turns Medicaid into block grants. But it turns out that Tea Partiers, like most Americans, strongly oppose cutting Medicare and Medicaid. A new McClatchy-Marist poll shows 70 percent of "Tea Party supporters" oppose cutting those programs--and 80 percent of registered voters agree.

So, when it comes to something like Medicare and I'd guess Social Security, those anti-socialist become socialist.
Oh, ,the irony!

Of course not, But they do want to fix it. Anyone with a brain understands the system as it stands is unsustainable. The battle is simply on how to fix it. The GOP favors Privatization, Which whether you agree with it or not, you have to admit it is an idea. The Democrats seem to have no idea. Other than Obama care, which actually rapes Medicare, and like Medicare is almost certain to cost many times as much as we are being told.

So if you say no to vouchers for those under 54, then what is your plan to fix Medicare? It is real easy to sit up here and repeat the false Democrat Talking point that the GOP wants to end Medicare. It is much harder to explain how you would address the problem.

Lets hear it.

They want to raise taxes...THAT is their *FIX*

If you say so.

Just cut Obamacare and unemployment.

That's a good start.

I question who they polled. But if it's true, then we have alot of educating left to do. We clearly can't keep doing this.

Avatar, ever cost analysis has shown that if Ryan's plan was enacted, most of those who are dependent on Medicare today couldn't afford the change.
I think those who are "for" Ryan's plan and are either Middle Class or poor aren't thinking with their wallets, they are thinking that way because their ideology tells them to think that way and by golly, they do it!

The only part of the equation they see is that it saves the government money. Oh, and it gets the government out of their healthcare. They ignore the fact that in the end, it will cost them more than double for the same coverage, and that it will have to come out of their pocketbook. Anyone who takes a serious look at this cannot help but to come to the conclusion that the vast majority of retirees will not be able to afford it when the time comes.

We are all ideologues to some degree. It is just that some of us can be persuaded by a logical argument while others will stick to their guns no matter what the evidence shows.

There are Idealogues...and then there are Principles and MORALS...

Doesn't take much greymatter to understand the difference. ;)
