Poll shows Americans oppose entitlement cuts to deal with debt problem

This thread is to gauge public opinion on cutting the deficit.

I contend that Americans really aren't all that serious about cutting the deficit. They say that they want to but they aren't willing to make sacrifices to do so. You will know that Americans are serious when they accept that to deal with the deficit, taxes will have to go up and/or major cuts will be necessary in defense, social security and/or medicare and other items that affect them directly rather than cosmetic and relatively insubstantial things that do not affect them.

First poll is from CBS. Most people support raising taxes on other people, in this case, the rich, which, for most people, are not them.
