At the risk of sounding ABB, there is some junk about this and previous admins that just piss me off. I sat down today to talk politics with my son (19 and knows it all) and before you know it I am ranting.

I hate leaks. Every admin has em, and I suspect that they are condoned. Take boy Rove. So far his lawyer says he didn't name the name. The fact that his lawyer is doing the talking is enough to piss me off. If he truly named the name, he needs to go to jail.

Immigration ticks me off as well. Anyone who wants to come to America should be screened, and if acceptable, allowed in. You get five years to establish yourself, learn English, and test for Citizenship. After five years, you get deported if you can't fit in. Since you are becoming American, you get to leave your heart in the old country and bring your soul here. I really hate legal immigrants obviously more loyal to the old than the new. But, illegal immigration gets me steamed. Those folks are criminals pure and simple. While I don't like the way the system works now, it must be enforced. Bush needs to get off his ass on the issue and fix it.

Education is a pet peeve going way back. Currently, for every person researching DNA, there is an illiterate redneck. For every potential lawyer there is a football player who cannot read. Kids are passed for social reasons instead of Academic achievement. Federal funds should be tied to results. The testing should be in English only, not Ebonics. Don't use the word omelet in a sentence. As in "omelet you pass now, but don't ax me again". Poor performing schools should be shut down and the non-functional teachers and/or bureaucrats should be scattered to the winds. That way you are not reinforcing failure. You may end up busing kids out of the neighborhood school, but I don't care.

Please close Club Fed. A federal penitentiary should be hell on earth. Anyone who believes otherwise is suspected of bleeding heart disease. Then, reserve this hell for the violent. Non violent crooks should be hammered in the wallet. Martha Stuart should have been bankrupted instead of incarcerated. Those who can't pay can work it off at low wages in ugly work.

Knock off the war on drugs. If you wish to smoke crack, so be it. It's your body. Alcohol and Tobacco have killed more than all the illegal drugs combined. Frankly I'd rather change the law to first offense is mandatory rehab (cheaper than prison). Or better yet, legalize it, tax hell out of it, and buy stock in Columbia/Afghanistan.

Abortion is legal. Get over it. Yes, it is the genocide of potential, an atrocity in my opinion, and the abdication of personal responsibility. But, if you cannot outlaw it, then at least get something out of it. Stem Cells.

Medicine really gets me. I am accustomed to Military Med. I don't expect the doctor to suck up to me. I don't expect lavish waiting rooms. I also don't expect to wait weeks to get an appointment. I got health insurance (lucky me). There should be insurance available at a reasonable rate. I believe (perhaps erroneously) that between the lawsuits, pharmaceutical industry, and the insurance carriers that medicine is fucked. I don't like socialism, but that may be the best way if the three way dictatorship isn't likely to go away.

AA, racism, sexism, and other nonsense. It's about time the feds knock off pitting everyone against each other with the EEO statutes. Instead, simply enforce the law, without exception, every time. We could establish a meritocracy (the Military is farther along than most believe) if only the PC BS were taken away.

Welfare in any form is corrupting. No administration has done any more than a token of reform. I have no problem with a one-time grant to help the unfortunate. I have no problem with a low interest loan to get back on your feet. I despise handouts. Corporate welfare is just as corrupting. A business that cannot survive, deserves to die. Again, a loan? Sure. A handout? Not.

Charity begins at home. So long as we have homeless, Africa should be on it's own. No president has the stones to say that in public.

Finally, our fiscal madness needs to be fixed. We put a man on the moon almost 40 frigging years ago, yet we can't unfoul the tax code. The president cannot have a line item veto. The congress critters of both parties cannot get rid of pork. The presidential veto is for sound byte purposes instead of the good of the nation. I don't mind having a debt (virtually all families do), but not one as outrageous as ours. It's time to stop the BS and fix it. BTW, in the real world shit happens and you may need some fiscal insanity to fix it. My fiscal beef is with the day to day stupidity that is still going on.

Leave the UN.

Oh well, if you made it this far, good job. End of rant.

I like it!

One thing though on illegal immigrants. In some cases, they are just people looking to get a day's pay for a day's work where none is available in Mexico. I feel some compassion for a father who has to travel hundreds of miles to get a back-breaking job in order to feed his family.

COOLEST USMB RANT EVER!!!

I agree with all of it as well. Are you sure you aren't a lib? :wtf:

Nope. My idiot son (said with love and respect) accused me of being a bush worshiper because I like the way we are fighting terrorists. My idiot son (said with love and respect)actually said (at farther than arms reach) that I was simply in lockstep (he actually used the word). My idiot son (said with love and respect) just completed his first college polysci course with an A-. Hence he is officially a pundit.

Kids......... sheesh

College Kids........... double sheesh........ (said with love and respect)

Does anyone honestly believe that the News media would have sat on this story during the election and tried to forge documents trying to claim President Bush was AWOL if Rove really did leak this?

Not only that, it is being said that it was well known among reporters and other Washington insiders what her job was. It sounds to me as if her "outing" is a figment of the MSM's bias. Apparently, her role was not "covert" and so all this is bunk.

This is so awesome. The lib media can't believe this is unravelling too, like all their previous attempts to destroy this administration.

That was a good rant Peg, and I'd have to say I agree with most all of it, except what I have excerpt above. I don't believe that's true. I'd like to see a link to back that up with facts. I think the war on drugs is just as important as the war, well... I WISH there was a war, on illegal immigration.

This country needs to get tough. If you're an illegal here, your ass needs a one way ticket the hell otta here. If you're an illegal here and you're selling crack, you need to put in a chain gang busting rock.

I want you to get up right now, sit up, go to your windows, open them and stick your head out and yell - 'I'm as mad as hell and I'm not going to take this anymore!' Things have got to change. But first, you've gotta get mad!... You've got to say, 'I'm as mad as hell, and I'm not going to take this anymore!'

If our goal is to spread democracy and freedom AROUND THE WORLD, we are fools to offer it for free to any one who can sneak into America. Who will be left in thier own shitty countries to fight for democracy. There will be no one left to pressure thier own governments to change. Do Americans who disagree with our government just leave for a "better" place ? Hell NO--they stay here and fight to fix it.

There is absolutely no rational defense for our immigration policy--it remains the way it is SOLEY to recuit voters.

AGREE 100%. There is no way in today's political atmosphere that anybody (who wants to win) will fight for stronger immigration laws. We have gone too far past "keeping them out" to fight the battle now. These "illegals" provide too much work, money influx in the local community, and ... unfortunately...influence to those who can vote.

Hey Pale. You and I disagreed loudly on the drug war thing before. Oh well. IF friends cannot disagree from time to time.................... I find it hypocritical that Alcohol and Tobacco are dangerous and addictive (BTW I make my own beer, and still occasionally smoke) with long term health problems, yet are legal. Crack is dangerous and addictive but illegal. Alcohol can cause behavioral problems just as crack or heroin can. Innocents die due to the abuse of alcohol (drunkdrivers) right next to the victims of drivebys by the drug dealers turf wars.

Some links IRT deaths......
http://www.drugwatch.org/Alcohol & Tobacco_Gateway Drugs.htm
http://www.drugwarfacts.org/causes.htm

Those are only two. The search was Googled "alcohol and tobacco deaths". HTH

I've always felt the best way to upgrade health care benefits is to add a $5 per pack tax on cigarettes. The people who are hooked will pay it, just like they pay the added price to gas up their SUVs. Anyone who attempts to smuggle cheap cigs into the country should be dealt with the same as we do drug smugglers. Because tobacco IS a drug!!

I also think we should tell the Gas Cartel to kiss our butts and go to gas rationing for personal vehicles. Or ban personal use of all vehicles that do not get at least 25 mpg. That should get rid of those ugly, useless Hummers.

Add as much tax on cigarettes as you like. I've been smoking for 61 years and I wouldn't quit if they went to a zillion dollars a puff. I don't have any qualms at all about buying stolen cigarettes. There is so much markup on them that they could probably go back down to 50 cents a pack if everyone would just mind their own business and quit trying to get rich suing for imaginary dangers. And it don't matter if vehicles don't get but one foot per one hundred gallons of gas because there is enough oil in the world to last as long as the world does if the tree huggers would shut their mouths and let the oil companys drill for it. But no, there are too many people out there crying "THE SKY IS FALLING, THE SKY IS FALLING." All that crap gets nauseous after a while.

Yeahhhhh....um. Yet you can't figure out why people will vote against you in a free election.

I appreciate the senitment of this post since it basically incorporates everything important in politics that anyone could ever talk about. However I have to disagree on some of your finer points. On the issuer of a meritocracy...we already have one. Going to an accredited college and getting a degree is essentially a meritocracy. Especially since in a capitalist society the most successful people are the most motivated and intelligent people take Oprah for example. (I am bieng serious :bat: As far as government is concerned we certainly do not have a meritocracy nor will we ever be able to have one if our view of politicians remains the same. Have you ever noticed how corrupt people seem to make it higher and higher in the government BILL CLINTON (cough cough) Thats because corrupt machiavellian people are the ones drawn to politics. Our current view is that politicians should be hard working and honest and we act so suprised when they suddenly are not. Simply put our constant focus on the lives of politicians and the haste with which we attack them for whatever reason has created a culture where honest successful people rarely succeed in politics. Too often the people who do succeed are the people who are corrupt and know how to mask that corruption, they know how to deal with reporters and the press, and how to split hairs: take for instance Bill's "That depends on what the definition of is is" Honest people simply cannot survive in that enviroment they fall victim to traps and power struggles. Only with the full fledged support of the united states can honest politicians stand a chance

an that is my two cents (actually more like twenty five cents worth of opinion)
and

And by the way the democrats are responsible for the tax code

And if we left the un would fall apart and we would fell stupid since we have a veto on th sec council anyways.

And as for health care your belife that lawyers and insurance companies are covering america with bureaucratic tape is partially true however socialism is certainly a perscription for disastor. Would you be willing to pay nearly twice as much in taxes so that the government could botch health care in this country. A system where the government assigns people to doctors and tells them what drugs they can and cannot prescribe. A system where men and women with serious illness are not allowed a second opinion (consider the Canadian and European systems). A system essentialy where all the freedom to make important decisions about one's body and health are made by the government. Health care is a commodity in this country because doctors and surguries are expensive. This does not mean that if you are poor and sick that no one will take care of you. Many programs exist outside of the government to deal with poor people. Socialism is never a good idea. It is inevitably the fate of this country but it is an erroneous concept.

The odds of socialized medicine being a cure for what ails us are smaller than the odds of insurance snafus going away. We need patients actually making cost comparisions on a per procedure basis. We need to gin up the supply of medical professionals by either improving our education system or increasing immigration quotas for doctors. But of course, no one likes competition. It's neocon poison. You're falling ito the trap, phil.

Nowadays a college education is essential to simply get a decent job abovce the minimum wage scale. A meritocracy is based on results only. Of course we are all in my opinion zone. My comment on the Gov was specificially slanted to the military. Far more opportunity for a non-college educated hard charger than the private sector.

As I stated, I am accustomed to military medicine. The docs don't kiss your ass and the waiting rooms are not lavish. They get you in as fast as possible. Sometimes hours, sometimes days. Because it is all gov all the time, military medicine is a socialized model. I have no clue how canada does it and dont care. My concern is that any person should be able to buy health insurance at a reasonable rate. Key on the word reasonable. We put a man on the moon, yet we cannot get reasonable health insurance? Thank the lawsuits, drug companies, and insurance carriers imo.

First off, I am not sure if I believe that the Democrats are the only ones responsible for the horribly complex tax code we have right now. I have to say Republicans probably have some responsibility, since about half the time Republicans were the majority in the senate and house. Blaming one instead of both is like blaming everything in WWII to Hitler but ignoring what Japan also did.

Secondly, I need to agree with xandy123 on health care. Socialist health care is a tricky thing that I don't think will work in America. Part of the problem of the costs, from what I got with discussions with doctors, are the rampant medical malpractice lawsuits. We do need to have it, but the fact there is no criteria for pain and suffering payouts in most states means it can be anything from 50% to 10,000% (and higher) of the mdeical costs awarded. Its just the cost for malpractice insurance is so high, it actually drove my family doctor out of business when he NEVER was sued. How is that reasonable?

First off how can you compare the tax code to world war two ???? The Democrats and the Republicans are not allied military countires, their opposing political parties with different platforms. No republican would ever want to make the tax code more complex.

I agree the malpractice cases are too high and thats why I want to adopt the british system whereby if you bring up false allegations of malpractice you should face stiff penalties (such as heavy fines or jailtime) the problem is that in civil court the burden of proof is much lower so people think that a neckbrace constitutes pain and suffering worth millions of dollars. It's the c ivil courts that have to change not the insurance companies

Ultimately socialism will fail all over the world because it denies basic human incentives
