New revelations expose federal cover-up in Flint, Michigan water crisis

The highest level US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) official in the Midwest was aware as early as April 2015 that the water being piped into the homes of Flint, Michigan residents was not being treated for corrosion control, yet said nothing. This despite the fact that it is common knowledge among water professionals that the lack of such treatment, especially in highly corrosive water as that found in the Flint River, will cause lead to leach into tap water from pipes and fixtures.

The revelation of the federal government’s role in the cover-up of lead poisoning of Flint residents comes as reports show a dramatic increase in cases of Legionnaires disease and related deaths in Flint, likely a result of the Flint River water. Protests by Flint residents are continuing, with a demonstration Thursday in the state capitol of Lansing demanding the resignation of Michigan Governor Rick Snyder for his role in concealing the dangers confronting Flint residents.

EPA Region 5 Administrator Susan Hedman made a decision not to use the authority of the agency to compel local water officials to apply a $100 a month phosphate treatment to protect the Flint water infrastructure from corrosion or even to alert the public of the health danger in drinking the water, she told the Detroit News this week.

According to the report, the EPA “battled” over corrosion control with the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ) behind the scenes starting in February.

Kill some time waiting for the hurricane season to end, introduce my husband to all my family in a graveyard in Kirkland Lake and we were hanging in Manitoba when that bitch came rolling in.

I was on the phone day and night. We were originally supposed to move to Ponchatoula. With my crew, Jim Dandy, Ruby Star, Dusty Roads and American Bad Ass my foundation.

All our dreams washed away in a heartbeat. But our pain was nothing compared to the good people of Louisiana. Their lives were turned so upside down.

I wish I was near a computer. I would love to show you the difference between how bush handled new Orleans compared to how he responded to a hurricane the year before in Florida.

Of course the Florida hurrican was in an election year and Florida's electoral votes were on the line.

The fuck ups start from the bottom up. The reason we rented a motel room and desperately tried to warn all our friends and fellow breeders that there was a 5 coming in because Nagin refused to give an evacuation order which meant that the poorest of the poor were not able to get out of the city.

Finally found a little motel that would take us. Catahoulas aren't poodles. They're walking sledgehammers so this motel owner was one gracious soul and understanding our plight to reach as many as we could.

Okay okay. Have you ever been to a coastal state, because when it comes time to bail you need organization from the bottom up. Have you ever seen the highways. Nothing was organized at all so when Nagin does finally give the evacuation order it wasn't until less than a day before landfall.

No way on the planet could you get the city out of danger in less than that time period. The whole damn thing was FUBAR'D from the bottom up.

ETA; Florida's people are pro's at dealing with Hurricanes. FEMA walks into the easy part because their teams are cocked, locked and ready to rock.

As compared to Nagin as a perfect example of what went wrong. The Mayor didn't let the buses roll because he was worried about insurance and non union bus drivers.

Yep, they hate him for his stance on public sector unions and on not shoving money into failing municipalities. If you go back and look at some of the other discussions about Flint, I've described at length the fact that, contrary to what many people seem to think/claim, the real error that led to all this in the first place was the improper treatment that was rendered to the river water. The responsibility for that falls on Snyder's Emergency Manager.
