And as we speak LaDexter in another thread has edited my quotes to change the context... This is EXACTLY what I'm talking about.

BREAKING: Obama's NSA Advisor Susan Rice Requested The Unmaskings Of Incoming Trump Officials

It's fucking stupid not to have a cut and dry rule.

Most times your issue is not in play. Just report the violations.

Why the fuck report it? I had a person that literally changed almost every word in a quote last night in this thread and I reported it. There were two mods online and it sat for over 3 hours before finally a mod did anything about it. Here's the thing. What I've found is if you complain about something on here Mods will tell you they are so busy they can't catch everything so they WANT you to help them and report it. But if you report stuff it then puts more burden on them and then they don't take your reports seriously because they figure if you report stuff and nothing gets done about it then you'll just stop reporting stuff. Sooo... pretty much reporting stuff is a crap shoot.

I did take care of that. Also sometimes mods may show as online but really are not. It takes 30 minutes for anyone that exits to stop showing. (is immediate if you actually log out)
And like it or not if you could sometimes see the amount of reported posts, you would understand. There were so many last night, I even screwed it up and edited the wrong post............for which I admitted and apologized for.
I think we DO take reports seriously.

You're new, you just haven't been institutionalized yet.

 New modding here, yes. New to modding and or owning forums, no. I do know right from wrong too! :D

But seriously, everyone on Staff here tries to do a good job. I know because I watch. :)

Yeah I've been a mod before, not on as busy of a forum as this one, and to be honest the biggest difficulty was deleting all the ad bots as soon as they pop up...no matter how difficult you make the registration process they still seem to get through.

I am busy enough editing my own most days. If USMB was an institution, it would explain a lot...

Off Topic but something is going on with this forum today. It is taking forever for stuff to load and it it is hard to scroll through posts and you have to wait a good 10 seconds after clicking the reply box before you can actually type.

Not happening to me at all. What browser are you using. I have been having lots of slow down problems with FF lately, so I quit using it. I have Chrome, and got Opera about a week ago when I saw Ringel05 talking about it. It is lightening fast.

Avast SafeZone I use it because of lots of problems with other browsers have with shockwave crashes.

I do not know as a fact atm but I think editing quotes of others is a no no.

I was told it was only against the rules if it is reported and the mod that reviews the report agrees that the way the quote was edited changes the context of the quote. So it is a case by case basis... which I think is a wrong way to handle the situation, and puts too much power and burden in the hands of mods. It would just be simple to say that you must use the entire quote, even if you break it up into pieces to respond to it.

I see. Well, one thing for sure, people can go back and see the original post, so they will know if it has been played around with.

As far as power to the mods, yes we have many things we mod and have to make a decision on which way to call something, but we also have the rules to go by as well.

But you know as well as I do, not very many people take the time to go back the the original posts to read it if they didn't pay attention to it in the first place, to make sure that the new post is being quoted like it was meant to be. They simple read the post and what is quoted in the post and take it for what it says there.
Someone did that to me once--actually altered the quote as well as omitting part, turning it into the exact opposite of what I had actually said. I called the poster on it but didn't report it. It didn't happen again, or I would have.

I use Avast Premier anti virus. Seems to do a good job.

I can't remember if I started a thread about his before, but I think there should be a forum rule against people editing out part of a person's quote when using it in a reply. I see people do it all the time in order to use it to their advantage and make the quote look out of context. You'll have people argue that they only want to reply to part of the quote... but why can't you do that and still quote the whole post? Nothing is stopping you. It actually takes more effort to go in and edit out part of the quote than just to quote the whole thing.

So some people like to break up quotes and answer it in sections, point by point. I get that, but that is not the same thing as what I'm complaining about here.

I've been told that it is against the rules for someone to edit someone's quote in a reply to make it out of context, BUT it is on a situation by situation basis and therefor is up to the judgment of whatever mod that so happens to read your ticket. There really is no need to even do that, just make it so that it is against the rules to edit someone's quote in a replay...get rid of the whole idea of everything being a judgment call and a crap shoot on what mod you get reviewing the situation.
There is a rule of manipulation, yet there is also a loop-hole..

There is only about 236 bots, now really, that's not a lot to deport..

Storms are headed to Atlanta..

Sorry folks, but if I'm only responding to two sentences of your 1300 word post, the rest of it is getting deleted. As are the 17 previous posts in the thread string. I'm not going to change your words or their meaning, but to keep things focused, I'm deleting the unnecessary crap.

One of my pet peeves is seeing a notice that I've been quoted only to find the quote is three, four or more layers back into a thread stack and has no relevance to me at all.

That is okay, but you can't change the arrow in a quote....

Oh bullshit, you little squealing girl. You've accused me of that before when all I did was quote the portion I responded to. It makes no sense to requote entire posts. If someone is really that curious they can go back and look. Problem is, you lose too many arguments. Arguments you create for the most part.
