People Support Higher Taxes to Reduce the Deficit by a 2-to-1 Margin

Federal Budget Deficit

From Gallup again:

As you may know, Congress can reduce the federal budget deficit by cutting spending, raising taxes, or a combination of the two. Ideally, how would you prefer to see Congress attempt to reduce the federal budget deficit -- [ROTATED: only with spending cuts, mostly with spending cuts, equally with spending cuts and tax increases, mostly with tax increases, (or) only with tax increases]?

Only with spending cuts 20%
Mostly with spending cuts 28%
Equally with spending cuts/tax increases 37%
Mostly with tax increases 9%
Only with tax increases 2%

In other words, only 20% are against tax increases while the overwhelming majority are for tax increases.

Anyone who tries to use a push poll to prove something is scraping bottom.

People want cuts in government and no raise in taxes. This is obvious to anyone not blinded by leftist ideology and Obama's putrid comments.

If the gov't raises taxes now we will slip into a Great Depression II. Obama is replaying FDR.

You know that stupidly big picture in your signature is obnoxious.

Or in other words 48% want a majority spending cuts. In the same poll, and I posted it above, 73% SEVENTY THREE PERCENT of Americans blame spending not the lack of taxes for our current situation.

The point is the OP of this thread is a blatant attempt to use some unheard of organization to say Americans favor tax increases 2-1. IT IS NOT TRUE.

Add the only and mostly together and that's 48% which is the majority.
The tax increases are not going to go for the deficit, they will be spent on the programs.
The programs have to be cut back.

Yep, they ask, would you favor raising taxes on the wealthy.

Let them ask, would you favor raising taxes ON YOURSELF and see the results..

that we have people here cheering our Government on to burden us with MORE TAXES because of their screw ups is AMAZING to me.

My sig pic is perfect for you.

Good. So do I.

Ok, and I tend to agree, though I think it's more of a mix. That doesn't change the fact that 76% SEVENTY SIX PERCENT of Americans want at least some tax increases as part of the fix for the current situation.

The point is the OP of this thread is a blatant attempt to use some unheard of organization to say Americans favor tax increases 2-1. IT IS NOT TRUE.

You're right the OP is wrong, Americans favor tax increases by a 3.8-1 margin.

28+37+9+2=76% for tax increases

20% against tax increases.

76/20 = 3.8

The tax increases are not going to go for the deficit, they will be spent on the programs.
The programs have to be cut back.

Add the mostly and equally you get 65% which is a real majority. Anyone advocating only one or another is a morAn.

And what is it that Obama was pushing for?

That's right.....mostly spending cuts.

Got a link to prove it? :eusa_whistle: Why is it that most all conservatives, on every board I've been on, overwhelmingly rely on their own personal opinions/expect everyone to "take their word for it"? :eusa_eh: Sorry. That doesn't work in a debate.

This country is falling apart because too many people want the government to give them something and they want someone else to pay for that.

You're sort of right about this...there are some people that think if they agreed to be governed...those that are doing the governing will do so in a professional manner that benefits most of the people entering that agreement. For the most part..those people are Liberals. And it is the promise of the United States Constitution.

There are some people however..that feel that government should only protect the interests of the wealthy and the powerful. That governance should be one by force and one that gets it's power to rule by a deity or bloodline. Those people would be conservatives.

This would be important if Republicans cared about what the people thought. The ones telling you "regular joes" not to raise taxes are the ones who would be taxed. It's the same as the Chick-Fil-A Cow holding up signs saying "Eat more Chickn"

That's what Repubs/conservatives have been programmed to call "eliminating tax loopholes/preferential treatment" :cuckoo:

That's simple truth, not "programming." Eliminating so-called "loop-holes" means the government receives a bigger share of the nation's income in taxation. That's a tax increase. Only a congenital moron would deny it.

Coming up with euphemisms for looting and plunder is a Dim specialty.

Do you think higher levels of taxation cause people to work harder or less hard? Take more risk or less risk?
This isn't very complicated stuff. Anyone who took Econ 101 should know this.
Oh.
