Opinions wanted - what should I have in my bug out bag

This is the correct answer....Hydrate or die.

I keep them in a quality 1qt. water bottle along with fire starting materials and other survival bits like a compass, survival blanket, small lighter, etc.

You can buy commercial ones but you can put one (or more) together at home that are more suited to your needs. The bottle keeps everything nice and dry too.

This is a good thing to have too.....Mora knife and fire steel combo....

.I have one attached to the sheath of a Vietnam era Short Woodsman's Pal survival tool.

No, just in case of unexpected problems. Like car broke down in the middle or no where or the power goes out for a while.

I think the other responders pretty much covered that scenario and then some.

Meaning I couldn't add to what the others suggested. I initially thought you were thinking of a doomsday bug out bag. Relax dude. Ain't looking to start no caca with you.
Sorry man. I guess I picked the wrong week to stop using methamphetamines! ;)

I decided to carry two of these lights because they are very small and use 16340 batteries. They last a while and are about 3 inches long. They have 5 settings from low to super bright with a special setting called firefly that puts out a very small aount of light. You can see in a dark room but that's about all so it won't attract too much attention. You can charge the battery inside the light.
