His approval rating with his people is completely in the tank, so he tried to improve his stature on the international stage, thinking the rub off would help him at home, by inviting the two American presidential candidates, probably assuming Trump wouldn't have the cojones to venture into the belly of the beast but if Hillary came they could have a Trump bashfest and both look good.
