On July 2008 obama violated the logan act of 1799

The logan act of 1799 states

§ 953. Private correspondence with foreign governments.
Any citizen of the United States, wherever he may be, who, without authority of the United States, directly or indirectly commences or carries on any correspondence or intercourse with any foreign government or any officer or agent thereof, with intent to influence the measures or conduct of any foreign government or of any officer or agent thereof, in relation to any disputes or controversies with the United States, or to defeat the measures of the United States, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than three years, or both.
This section shall not abridge the right of a citizen to apply himself, or his agent, to any foreign government, or the agents thereof, for redress of any injury which he may have sustained from such government or any of its agents or subjects.
1 Stat. 613, January 30, 1799, codified at 18 U.S.C. § 953 (2004).

do you comprehend english? WHERE in the logan act does it say an official of the us can not speak with foreigners???

It seems I am not the one with the comprehendsion problem.

No doubt. You'd have to get-beyond your spelling-problems, first.

Good lord drop it, plenty of legitimate complaints about Obama's inadequacies as President without the ridiculous.
Why is it rediculous? obama was a law school graduate from harvard. He broke the law you would think he would have known better after all he was magna cum laude. Its the little things that shows how much a person knows.

He did NOT break the law, he was sitting on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. I suggest you learn what it iis they do and what authorization they have, because authorization is the key

What part are you missing? Did President Bush send obama to request that the Iraqi President delay any agreement to a troop withdraw until after the 2008 election. It doesn't matter what committee obama was on he was not the commander and chief he was not authoerized to nogatiate any thing dealing with the military. So I guess you would say it's ok for any senator to go to any country and strike a deal.

rather than waste all your time arguing about whether Obama was born in the United States or whether he violated the Logan Act, why not make an attempt to constructively work with the president to try to fix the problems that confront this country?

\Do you hate America? I think you do. Lets all go suppoort Castro, or chvas I am not work with the POS If he fails America will be saved

The Logan act does not specify that they have to be sent by the president, only that private citizens cannot do this. Obama was not a private citizen.

Actually the law reads ANY citizen, not private citizen, but it also read without AUTHORIZATION. What it does not specify is what an AUTHORIZED agent may or may not speak about. And therein lies the problem in proving Obama broke this law. He did not.

I read the law, and then read it again. Nowhere does it delineate between a private citizen and a public servant.
It simply refers to "any citizen".

I do not believe there is any federal law that anyone, regardless of their trade, is exempt from.

You are correct, but the law does not apply in anyway to US citizens who have been authorized by the USG to negotiate with foreign governments.

The logan act, are you joking man?

The problem is when you WANT to find fault you can always fine fault. The only problem with that is when you really do find something all it sounds like is noise, like all the rest of the bullshit.

Reread the law. IF you are an authorized agent of the USG this law does not apply to you. IF this were not so, how did Bill Clinton, as a private citizen, go and meet with the N Koreans to negotiate the release of those hostages? Oh, it's because he was authorized to do so.

Once authorized by the USG, there is no need to be authorized about what you can and can't talk about. That's just stupid to think otherwise...

So what you are saying is that any senator can go overseas and make decision that will affect the military without the ok of the President.
