The government played little to no part in the innovations in standard of living that you describe. In some cases it can be argued that government actually blocked progress of standard of living. The individual and innovation and competition is what fosters innovation, NOT government control. You are brainwashed.

Also the second amendment outlaws the infringement of the right to bear arms, thus it is the government who is acting unlawfully and as you put it, illegally, when it comes to firearm ownership. How quaint. Just put your feet into the shoes of the founders for one second...they were tyrannized by great Britain and understood the likelihood that the new united states would be corrupt just like all governments do...what better than to secure the rights of firearm ownership for the people if another revolution were necessary?
